Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Just finished The Fault in Our Stars by John Green about five minutes ago. OH MY GOSH... That is all. I read it in under 2 days. I spent almost all day reading. I didn't do much else... including editing yesterday's video for my daily vlog channel... but I am sure the fans will be understanding... I hope.

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments Started The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie in audio. Narrated by the author. It is too soon to tell how I will feel about it. It is on the Banned Books List. I am looking forward to it because I have heard good things about it.

It is ridiculous what it is on the banned book list! Loved it too.

Currently reading The Book of Blood and Shadow by Robin Wasserman .

Hi Jessica. I'll be sure to let you know! I'm really enjoying it so far. I wish I had a lot of quiet time to just sit and read. (My 5 year old son has other plans though.) :P

message 12011: by Sara (new)

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments Not really a break, just only three days of in class time and an online class that starts tomorrow. So, I don't have school Thursday or Friday and then I have my weekends, so I take that time to read when I don't have homework! :)

Now I am reading Grey Eyes (The Forever Trilogy #1) by B. Alston

Awesomevegan (AKA JenReads) (awesomevegan) | 325 comments I am still reading Part Time Indian and am glad to see some love for it. :) I am really enjoying it. It seems so honest and real. I love books like that. It must be language and sexual themes that got it banned. I would say it is okay for older teens but not younger teens or preteen age. I think parents need to know what their kids are doing. We don't need to ban books. We need to ban stupid people from making babies.

Anyway I also started Zombicorns by John Green (a novella written for NaNoWriMo) because I figured out how to download it onto my Fire. I am already half done. I will probably finish both books tonight. I am also still reading The Picture of Dorian Gray but am only 25 percent through that one. I am going to log off of my computer early tonight to read and play with my Fire. :)

message 12013: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I think it was banned too, because of the theme of racism.

Slayer Chronicles...I did not know about this! I loved the Vladimir Todd books, I didn't know she was writing more. I saw that they are about Joss's life and how he became a slayer. I don't know if I care enough about his story to get on board with this series. Let me know what you think of it.

Finished Blade of Fortriu (The Bridei Chronicles, #2) by Juliet Marillier and LOVED it!!!

Now on to The Well of Shades (The Bridei Chronicles, #3) by Juliet Marillier ...obviously. I am loving this series!!

message 12015: by Theo (new)

Theo According to the American Library Association's website, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian was the 2nd most frequently challenged book in 2010 because of "offensive language, racism, sex education, sexually explicit, unsuited to age group, and violence." I would agree that it is best suited to the high school age (14+), but it should ultimately be up to parents to determine what their children read.

I loved the book, and the audio was amazing. It is also great to see a book with a American Indian protagonist, as minorities in general, and American Indians specifically, are underrepresented in YA lit.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I think that book has sooooo much more positive than negative. It's just to real for people. Teenagers, particularly teenage boys, could learn a lot from it.

I enjoyed the First Kill book. I found it interesting but I haven't read the Vladimir Todd books, which now I must add to my list, lol

message 12018: by Bethany (new)

Bethany | 578 comments Oh, haha. Yeah there's five books. Vladimir is the main character and a vampire. Joss is a supporting character in the books. You should definitely read them :)

message 12019: by Benji (new)

Benji (baristavonbeard) | 9 comments Having just finished The Fault in Our Stars by John Green and, in the process of reading, having felt all the emotions that it is possible for a human to feel, I have moved onto Throne of Jade (Temeraire, #2) by Naomi Novik .
As a sidenote, John Green deserves a Pulitzer (and every other literary award, at that) for The Fault in Our Stars. It's so heartbreakingly tragic in such an uplifting and achingly lovely way; he really knows how to use the English language.
