I just started Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty a few minutes ago.

I loved ! I too preferred John Green's chapters over David Levithan's but it was an overall great read. I love Tiny Cooper! It ties together, so I wouldn't recommend skipping chapters.

I've read Sloppy Firsts and Second Helpings. I'm currently reading Charmed Thirds. I liked the first two, but the main character is getting on my nerves in this third installment, but I still plan on finishing the series.

Yeah, I figured that out pretty quickly. I liked DL's chapters but it took a little getting used to his style. I get that the two different styles helped you keep track of what Will you were reading but at first it was distracting.

Yes. I read both books 1 & 2. The writing style is very weird, and the first book took me some time to get used to. Once I did, I liked it (hence reading the second book). It is a very strange series though.

I was just at the very beginning. Todd just discovered the spot with no Noise. Sometimes I judge books very quickly (probably too quickly) and drop them. But I can definitely stick out a boring beginning if I have reason to believe it'll get better. Might as well give it a shot.

How are you liking Fire?

I'm going to be starting Unwind soon too, right after I finish Incarceron. I gotta say, I'm loving it so far. A little confusing, but still good. (Sorry to disagree with you Bluemoon, but I'm actually liking it more than Gone) But I think you lowered my expectations a bit, making it a nice surprise (so THANKS)

Fire is just ok so far, and not as good as Graceling, but I still have quite a bit to go so I may change my mind.
Stick it out with The Knife, it gets much better after he meets the girl. It is funny, because I totally remember being right where you are in the book and also wanting to give up on it!

Fire is starting to get really interesting Heidi, so keep with it. I think it isn't as good as Graceling because Fire isn't nearly as strong a woman as Katsa was, but it's part of her character. I like to see the author has the talent to write a really good protagonist that is fairly vulnerable even if she does have special abilities.

Heidi - I liked Incarceron, 4 stars! It was Bluemoon that didn't like it. It just took me a couple chapters to get really into it.

Kourtni - I've really liked The Darkest Powers books. They aren't Graceling or The Hunger Games but they are better than the House of Night series. They are definitely on the younger side of YA, if that makes sense. You and I seem to have similar tastes so you would probably like it. :)

Thanks Shannen, that makes perfect sense. I read 20 pages into the first House of Night book and couldn't make myself go any further. They are set in my home town and it wierded me out for some reason. Haha. Not to mention I tried to read it right after I read Twilight for the first time and I kept comparing them. It was a no go for me. But I think I'll try out the Darkest Powers books and see what happens!

I like the House of Night books but the last book or two hasn't been very good. (They definitely aren't Twilight!) The story is being dragged out too much. Also, I think the writing style is pretty elementary but the plot has some mature moments.

About 170 pages into A Great and Terrible Beauty and I'm having mixed feelings. The story is interesting, but I don't think I'd be too torn up if I didn't finish it (I will though). Hopefully it picks up soon!

I'd say finish it if you can. I liked that Todd pretty much acted the way you'd expect (age & circumstances). There was one thing that happened that I couldn't look past that made me hate the book, but other than that I actually liked it.

I hadn't planned on reading the next one but lately I've been wanting to.

Yeah, Cansrel was hardcore though. I would have been terrified of him!

I just finished Zen and Xander Undone - got it as an ARC. It was good, just not sure I would put it in my 7th grade classroom library. Next is If I Stay - anyone read it?

Cansrel was definitely scary without a doubt, but I think Leck is just as scary in Graceling, maybe scarier since he had a propensity for kids. Awesome series so far! Can't wait for Bitterblue.

I liked If I Stay. At parts it was sad, but also very funny at times. It's a fast read, too.

Just finished The Hunger Games and I LOVED IT! I'm hooked. Haven't decided if I'm Team Peeta or Gale yet, I'm gunna wait until I read the second book to choose.

Lol, maybe I will be Team Gale, but let's see what happens in Catching Fire, cuz Gale was hardly in Hunger Games and Peeta was in so much of it, so it would be unfair for me to pick either one at this point.

I thought the same thing. And I'm wondering if she's graced as well. She may be a little old for a grace to settle, but she wasn't very childlike either. Maybe she's a whole different breed, like graced without the eyes to give it away.

I think I mentioned I'm listening to The Ruins of Gorlan which is the first book in the Ranger's Apprentice series. I'm enjoying it very much so far. I hope I'm not disappointed.

I read the Ranger's Apprentice books and really enjoyed them!

After hearing DL speak about the style at a book signing, it made more sense. He said it has to do with how his Will is more himself through IM and texting than he is in person. Therefore he thinks in IM and texting, which in this day and age is all about lack of puncuation and capitals. So it's not just a distinguishing factor, it's also to give more insight on his Will.

I'm moving my way through the Megan Macafferty Jessica Darling series and have read Sloppy Firsts, Second Helpings, Charmed Thirds, and am now a couple chapters into Fourth Comings.

I really enjoyed the first two books, but am a bit miffed with the third and now the beginning of the fourth book. Jessica's actions aren't matching up with her words. I've read a sneak peak of the fifth book which looks really promising, so I will complete the series although I really just want to skip the rest of this fourth book.
