Heidi I seriously think I must have been in a mood when I read Ender's Game because I don't know why I didn't totally love it like everyone else. I certainly didn't hate it or anything and thought it was def. worth the read, but it didn't give me that Melina Marchetta feeling of "Oh MY Gosh" when I was done. Hmmmm.....

Definitely!! I swear, reading Pratchett can get me out of the sourest, foulest, grumbliest moods...he's fantastic. And, BONUS, if you like the way he writes...he's got roughly 80 billion (okay, more like 40) books all set in Discworld, so you'll have plenty of hilarious reading material :D Haha, can you tell that I try my best to spread the good news of Terry Pratchett? :P

Jim Franz | 36 comments I put down Speaker for the Dead (Ender's Saga, #2) by Orson Scott Card after a few dozen pages, not because I didn't like it, but because I thought I had the order of the series wrong! I had to double-check to make sure it was the next book in the series, due to the time lapse. Now that I know, I'll be picking it back up again.

Beth, I really did enjoy Ender's Game (Ender's Saga, #1) by Orson Scott Card , but I found myself envious of people who'd read it a decade or two ago, when many of the ideas hadn't already been lifted and reused by a few other books/movie/shows. I still loved it, though, and am grateful it was spotlighted on another thread in this group so I got to experience it myself.

And Heidi, I wouldn't worry about not liking Ender's Game. Not every book is for every person. There's nothing wrong with being picky. :)

I read it when I was youngish.. so, the concept was pretty new to me. I loved the fact that Mr.Card came up with 'blogging' before 'blogging' was even a concept.

That was one of the things that REALLY impressed me about the book. How accurate he was about technology & ideas that wasn't in general use yet.

I loved that series since it first started. I've only read the first three, then haven't read the last two because by the time I got around to the 4th book, I decided to start all over again. George R. R. Martin might not be the fastest writer, but he sure is good!

message 11082: by rameau (new)

rameau As well as The Sleepwalkers by J. Gabriel Gates was written, I think it would have worked better as a film than as a book.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Reading Never Have I Ever (The Lying Game #2) by Sara Shepard and a eARC of Variant by Robison Wells (This one reminds me to much of The Maze Runner, except they are locked in a school, it has a lot of the same concepts.)

Theo Harshini wrote: "Oh I love that book!!! Tell me how you think it is when you are done!"

Just finished and I really liked it. I wasn't sure what to expect going in, and one of my best friends who often recommends books to me had not been impressed, so I was dubious. Thankfully, I was pleasantly surprised. It felt a little like Lemony Snicket to me. I'll probably continue to read the series, although I won't rush to read the next one.

Haha, yeah, the main reason I'm giving it another chance is because I want to read the fourth book. It looks awesome. It doesn't have Meghan narrating, so it should be better. Plus, a heap of people have said number three is really good. I feel like I'm missing out. :P

message 11098: by Gwennie (new)

I'M really glad you give it another try. But if I were you I would just skip to read the first one again and would go straight to the second. And then the third *wohoo*

and then, when you've finish with this series - we're going to talk about Fever again! :D
