Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?
I just finished Matched and I'm about 100 pages into The Magician King. I know maybe that is not technically YA, but The Magicians was up for an Alex Award (best YA/Crossover Novel). I also picked up The Isle of Blood which I am drooling to read!

Me too! It's a gorgeous cover. Even more so, in person.
I'm reading The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong. Also, Passion by Lauren Kate. :D guys, can you please recommend me some books about witches? Haha. I'm kinda into those books for almost a week. Ugh. Seasonal isn't it?

series
Those are some I can think of, off the top of my head.
Jennifer wrote: "About halfway through with
. Not sure how I feel about it yet."Positively was kind of an interesting book. It's not my favorite that I've ever read (not even my favorite on the subject of HIV/AIDS) but it was still a not-terrible read.
marie wrote: "I'm reading The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong. Also, Passion by Lauren Kate. :D guys, can you please recommend me some books about witches? Haha. They're set in his Discworld setting (he has like 40 books set there) and they are HILARIOUS, sweet, and feature an awesome female witch protagonist. They are, in order:
Seriously, they are some of my favorite YA books I've ever read. They're not quite in the usual Armstrong vein (I haven't read any of her YA but I've read some of the Women of the Otherworld series.) These are a lot lighter fare, and sometimes have an almost absurdist bent, but they are laugh-out-loud funny...and they might make you want to pick up more Pratchett :P
I just finished
and loved it! Since I apparently didn't already have enough series to read, I've picked up this one, so am now reading
.

You are not the only one who doesn't love Jace :)
Finding myself picking away at several books. No particular one has dragged me in deep enough where I can't stop. (Reading restless again.)However, I did just add
to the list to try and regain some testosterone in my system. A nice adult action book might just be in order! Guns, bullets, swords, death and explosions. Enough to make a "real" man proud. :P
I just finished
and it was ok so I guess I will try the next book in the series. Now I'm starting
, I hope it's as good as everyone says.

and I've finished a couple YA books while hacking away at these three. It's not that any of them are bad...I just feel like I only want them in small doses, lol. I might be fickle again tonight and start another YA book instead of working on these...
Time to read my son some
before bed. He's only 5, so he doesn't QUITE get them, but he LOVES mysteries and has fun trying to tell me who the thief is. :)Then there might be some reading time for me!
Tai wrote: "Starting
today. Yay!!! I hope it lives up to my expectations."Pretty cover. I've never seen that book before. Nice:)
Currently reading Jekel Loves Hyde and Unbelievable I really want to see the PLL tv show and see if it lives up to my expectations.
I finished
today and tomorrow I'm gonna start with
and by the way I'm reading
, though my focus it on the book by Julie Kagawa. Love Prince Ash :D
Anna wrote: "Martina: Haha, I know. He's just irritating and whiny to me. I love Magnus. He's my favourite of the MI series. :) Nah, Simon was boring to me.Ah, cool. A Scotland setting would be awesome. :D"
hey anna, i finished the second book of the iron fey trilogy and now I know what you meant with that Meghan is annoying... everytime it comes to Ash she loose all pride and is whining. *rolling my eyes*
hope she gain some self-respect again in the next book. Otherwise I have to struggle her and take Ash for me in her place *lol*
oh God, i'd love to start reading that iron fey series. Heared so much about the series. And good reviews, i might add. :D
hey, i really like the landscape and the world and the characters Kagawa has built in the books. Love her writing. Give it a try if you like fantasy and if you like faires or fascanatiy wonderours things *bling bling* :D

Ash wrote: "I've always wanted to read a Discworld Terry Pratchett book, would that series be a good place to start or do I need to know more about the world to understand them?"I think you'd be okay starting with the first Tiffany Aching book! They're rather self-enclosed as compared to some of the others, and you don't really need to know much about the city, the other races, the politics and whatnot to get it. Also, Pratchett is really good about making sure to give you enough information about what's going on so that you understand, even if it's your first Discworld book. For what it's worth, the first Pratchett book I read was Small Gods, which gave a nice overview of the world and really set the tone for the other Discworld books I have giggled my way through :P I think either Small Gods or Wee Free Men would be a fine place to start dipping your toes in the Discworld waters. I hope you like them! :D
Currently reading some old fairy tales such as
because I am trying to get to the bottom of why we have such issues with mermaid books.
Heidi (so what if I'm picky): Oh, yay! :D That's suprising. It's like every person you talk to is in love with him and I just don't get it. Isamlq: How are you liking that book? I really liked 'The Adoration of Jenna Fox' so I'm torn as to whether I should read that one.
marie: I love witch books! I love any books with magic in them. :D
Bridget: I'm going to have to check out the Tiffany Aching series. I've never read anything by Terry Pratchett but I've heard he's quite funny.
Martina: Hahahaha! Ah, damn. If she's even more annoying in the second book I don't know if I want to read it. I really liked the world building, even though it's ripped straight out of the movie 'Labrynth', with bits of 'Alice in Wonderland' thrown in for good measure. I'll probably give it a read and hope the characters grow on me or something.
oh, you haven't read the second book yet? sorry if I ruined it now :/But yes, in this book even I got annoyed with her sometimes. Guess in this there will be some parts where you'll roll your eyes, but there are also other parts they are great and gorgeous. :)
I start the third one today - I was never god with reading just one book of a series... I always go on with the next... otherwise my curiousity would kill me *muhaha* :D
♥ Martina ♥ wrote: "oh, you haven't read the second book yet? sorry if I ruined it now :/But yes, in this book even I got annoyed with her sometimes. Guess in this there will be some parts where you'll roll your eyes..."
No, that's okay, I pretty much already know how it ends anyway. I like to read reviews. :P
Meh, if I really dislike a first book, I probably won't check out a second one. I figure there are too many books out there that I want to be reading. :)
in this point I could learn something from you, because I always go on with the books in series, because you never know how it turns out in the end. Like the Fever series - If i would have stopped after the second book I wouldn't know the fourth and the fifth one which I love and adore.ON the ohterside - if I would have stopped after the first Immortals book I would have saved many nerves *lol*

I'm reading Bloodlines. The same author who wrote The Vampire Academy. I didn't really liked the first book, so I didn't bother for the rest of the series and I decided why not give her spin-off a try? Um, I'm not really enjoying it. I hate books written in one-person. But maybe it'l grow on me. =D

is certainly very unlike
, but I loved it too, in a different way. Orson Scott Card's characters are just so awesome.Beth, have you read the Shadow series, starting with
? Those are really excellent, and much more similar to Ender's Game. I usually recommend them to people as the next thing to read if they're looking for more Game-like action :)
