great, so a good book starts for you, when you don't have the feeling to throw it against a wall - very appealing *lol*
but i know what you mean and often I can just shake my head or roll my eyes...

oh oh - did you read The Gathering - thats kind of a sequel to The Darkest Power. Like that -really. And how was it? For me I really liked Chloe though she's a blond one and sometimes a little naiv, but otherwise great.

Yeah, I definitly was a great fan of charmed. But then it all got to much. Maybe I'll give wicca a try in a few month. At the moment my reading list is full :)

don't be too rude with authors. I always thought the same like you but then this year I started my one little story (about romance *suprise* :D ) and its really hard to get the girl in your head (which is inrecdible and perfect) right on the pages. Its harder than it sounds, because at the beginning the MC has to be more fragile and then become stronger throughout the novel. you know - hard job :)

message 10955: by Anna (last edited Sep 21, 2011 12:12AM) (new)

Anna Martina: Haha, yeah, pretty much.

I don't think it's rude to expect author's to put all their effort into their books. They've chosen this career path. I've been writing for a few years now, so I understand it's a very difficult task, but it's not impossible. Finnikin has amazing world building, an intriguing plot and epic characters.

But yeah, I get that it is a hard task. It's why I'm mostly willing to give debut author's a second chance, usually only if they release another book though. :)

Do you wish to be an author?

message 10956: by Anna (last edited Sep 21, 2011 12:12AM) (new)

Anna I'm currently reading Glass Houses (The Morganville Vampires, #1) by Rachel Caine . I've read it before, but I'm giving the series a second chance.

message 10957: by Tina ♥ Bookaholic (new)

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) yeah, it's not rude to expect everything good from an author, but I just say sometimes its not so easy. For me my mc is great in my head, but I can't put her right on the pages... and no- so I'm now a authors, I'm just a woman who like to read (and because I'm so often disappointed I've started my own thing *lol*) but we'll see what will happen with my script when I get the nerve to finish it - I still stuck in the middle of it.
What have to wrote so far - fantasy or other genres?

to go back to my other question: how did you like the gathering? and when will you start with the darkest power?? hope soon :D

message 10958: by Anna (last edited Sep 21, 2011 07:18AM) (new)

Anna Mostly paranormal and dystopian, but a little gen fic. I don't have a finished manuscript yet though. One day. :P

Oh, I forgot to answer. It was okay; I gave it three stars. I really liked the MC and her best friend, but didn't really like the love interest, and was kind of confusing, especially the ending.

Ahhh, I have no idea. I'm broke at the moment and have a heap of books before it on my to-read list, but I'll definitely read it eventually.

message 10959: by Tina ♥ Bookaholic (new)

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) I sooo know what you mean... its so hard to really finish a whole book. I was so eager when I started my story (after reading some bad books) but after a while I got stucked and now I don't know how to go on - it's nerverecking. hope one day we both have the guts to finish the books *lol*

oh - you gave three stars, so you just rolled your eyes sometimes and didn't want to throw it against a wall- I see. How many books of the series have you already read. Because by the darkest power the love story is also only finished in the last book and in the first you wouldn't expect it likt that :)

What genres do you like to write?

It's not really nerves stopping me, it's the fact that I have a problem sticking to one story. I have so many random ideas floating around in my head.

Haha, there were suprisingly few eyeroll moments for me in The Gathering. :P I've only read the first one so far. I don't think the second is out yet.

Well it has a kind of political intrigue (dealing with royalty) and a definite intricate cast of characters. Deals with the good vs. evil typical fantasy angle. The heroine and hero are both very strong willed and kinda kickass. The plot is woven in a way that at the end a lot of smaller pieces come together that you may or may not have seen coming. There are clues as you go along so you might have an idea where it's going but a few pieces really come out at the end. So far it's 3 books but I think she is writing a 4th. It's not as crazy and sordid as Goodkind and Jordan. Has a mix of YA and adult themes, also a lil romance, adventure, magic, suspense, and a small mystery. Working on the 2nd novel now.

I never really was. They were both so darn uncooperative. They could've solved a lot of problems quicker by just talking and quit being stubborn. Dear goodness.

message 10975: by Juliann (new)

Juliann Whicker | 131 comments I thought everyone had to love Barrons:) I'm still wondering if I want to read Fever. Everyone says you have to wade through two pretty bad books to get to the good stuff. I'm not sure I'm strong enough for that

But all that angst paid off, and I have to absolutely love love a bad boy.

Juliann they're fun to read. If you can get them at a library I'd go for it. It's quick, fast paced fun.

Anna, I tell you this because you're my friend - you've to go through the first 2 books (where Mac is really annoying and where you will want to throw the book on the wall) BUT then she becomes better and in the end I really like her and with Barrons its the same. Now I just love him, I adore him. His my favourite man of none YA books! (and Jace from the YA books *lol*)

At the moment I'm writing about a love story (suprise :D). You know, the common stuff where a girl meets a boy, they fall in love and have to fight for their love... but till they be happy and together in the end... we don' now. So its a romance book (YA - I don't know because I already wrote more in it than just 'holding hands' *lol*) and there is also some villain, but its not fantasy or paranormal.

And about other stories: I didn't start them yet but they will be fantasy. I already have some things in my mind :)

yeah, one of mine too. The beginn was great but with every book it even got better. And the last was amazing. I love the characters and how it turned out in the end. The only thing I didn't like was the end of the trilogy - it was just the end of the book, but not of the story. you know?

So is it like 'Anna and the French Kiss' style, or something a bit darker?

It's a contemporary love story. It's about a girl who gets sent to a boarding school in Paris and meets the beautiful and lovely Etienne St. Claire.

The writing's not the best, but the story is very adorable. :D
