Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?
Virtuosity looks fun! You know, in a sad, thoughtful, issues kind of way:)Cassi: I am a writer, and I'm more interested in honest feedback than if someone really likes something or not. When someone doesn't absolutely love my book and can explain what was off, it makes me look at my work from a new angle. If I were you, I'd be honest about it. Just IMHO:)
I've been plowing my way through all the books I've collected over the past year or so. I haven't even put a dent in them, though. :\Anyway, I've recently finished Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie, Firelight, and Vintage: A Ghost Story. I'm currently reading Entwined and debating what I'm going to read next. I'm between As You Wish and Rot & Ruin.
Juliann: In response to your advice for Cassi... I agree completely. I'm also a writer and really dislike when I get dishonest or half-hearted feedback. I want honest con crit, something that will help me turn a broken scene into something that has impact. I can't do that with "That was good," "I WANT MOAR," or "This is the worst thing I've ever read." Tell me why it was good or why it was horrible and then we can talk, lol

Michelle - let me know what you think about A Discovery of Witches.. haven't gotten too far yet as only listen when on the treadmill... methinks I need to start working out more! ha

I read it after seeing all those WHERE SHE WENT comparisons (I do love Adam!) I just finished it and enjoyed most of it.
Now I'm reading
Cassi: how are you liking entwined? If the contents are half as nice as the cover, you have a winner:) I definitely agree with your comments about comments. I should read your stuff!
I was actually shoved into another book by a friend before I got far into Entwined. So now I'm reading Unnatural by Michael Griffo. Entwined is atill on my list, tho. Hopefully I'll get back to it soon! And I'd love to share my writing...if I had much of anything done, lol. I took a break after I graduated college because I was a writing major and DEAPERATELY needed to breathe for a bit. I've recently started again, though, and will hopefully have something soon. :)
Breathing is definitely important:) I was a lit/art major so I could write fiction and resent literary essays. I just liked to read, who wants theory? Anyway, congrats on your fresh start! May you remain unblocked.
Finished up
and am not sure what I'm going to read next. Still trying to find work and I'm having a hard time focusing. Will probably chip away at different books until something takes.I'm open to suggestions too!
Hey Lloyd! *waves* You should try
. It's from a guys point of view, I felt it started out like Percy Jackson (light hearted fun), but the bad guy is really a bad guy so it turned out to be really good!
I got
as an arc from NetGalley and I had to abandon it only 7% in because I didn't like it. Now i'm reading
, also from NetGalley, but I'll probably have to keep it to daytime only because its creepy.

Finished
. If you like urban fantasy at all I really recommend this series. It's not YA but it's good. Start with
which is prolly the weakest but the books get better & better. And guess what I just started?
YAY for the Melina around the World challenge!
I haven't stopped by here in awhile but I feel a little like getting involved in the conversation again, as I love talking about books, so I thought I would start on this thread and say I am currently reading The Scorpio Races by Maggie Steifvater. Which I'm liking ten times better then Shiver.
Cassi wrote: "I didn't like Shiver so I've avoided her other books. Now I'm just a tiny bit curious."It has horses that come from the ocean and eat people. I will keep you informed as I get farther into it...but man-eating horses!
Scorpio races sounds really interesting. I haven't read shiver, I feel like the only person who hasn't. The October Day series looks really good too. This is such a great thread!
Just back home after ten days' holiday in Turkey, during which I had fun plowing through these:
Now back to work, continuing with
and experimenting with the cool new 'personalised recommendations' thingy that just appeared on Goodreads :)
Just started
. I quite like the new cover for the Kindle edition. I don't know if I've read an old YA book for awhile (even if its just been re-released).

"Wow! That's a lot of books-you must be a fast reader. I'd also like to know which ones you liked the best.
Catie wrote: "Which were your favorites, Arphaxad?I just finished A Monster Calls today and I think that you all should read it. Immediately!"
I second that recommnedation! :)
Cassi wrote: "HahahahaSounds pretty gory. Which isn't a bad thing."
So, I just finished the Scorpio Races (do we have a "just finished thread? whatever) and it was pretty darn good. Much better than Shiver (in my opinion). Though it was a little slow to get going I thought.
I very much enjoyed the characters.

Hard to say, actually! The ones that stood out were also the ones I felt most ambivalent about afterwards -
- but I still had a great time reading them. All in all, a good stack of books :) Also hoping to get hold of
soon!
Cassi wrote: "Started
last night for our author of the month challenge."Yay! Have fun.
(This reminds me I need to start re-reading
in preparation for
!)
Harshini wrote: "Gonna start
!!!!! Can't wait! :)"I loved that series! One of my fave. Can't wait to hear what you think:)
Harshini wrote: "Gonna start

Just now starting Marked. A friend of mine can't get enough of this series so I finally caved and bought it.
I am reading
, and I'm hooked. I was reading it on break at work and was struggling not to laugh out loud. Sophie is a great main character!
Harshini wrote: "Gonna start

Enjoy it!!

I'm curious how this is. It sounds more romantical than me but I talk to the author quite often on twitter so I really want to like it (and am nervous to read it if I won't).
