Charley (charley_reads) (charley_reads) Loooads atm. It's terrible I know >.< but they're all just too good to put down long enough to finish one! I am rather enjoying Dead Kiss (Generation Dead & Kiss of Life) by Daniel Walters and The Paris Enigma by Pablo De Santis, two very different kinds of books.

After that I think I may give Incarceron (Incarceron, #1) by Catherine Fisher another try. The first time I tried to read it was when I was studying for the bar exam last summer, and there were many, many books that didn't get finished during that time.

And I liked it - seemed like it was setting the ground for the next in the series.

Timothy Davis | 19 comments Hi. I'm kinda new in this group, but I'm re-reading
Treasure Island (Signet Classics) by Robert Louis Stevenson and
The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
It's funny how The Three Musketeers has become YA lit. This is the fourth or fifth time I've read these books, and still love them.

message 10787: by Nichole (new)

Nichole (koliebalolli) | 12 comments I seem to be in a urban fantasy/faery niche at the moment. I recently finished The Iron Fey series by Julie Kagawa and Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception by Maggie Stiefvater. Right now I'm reading Ballad: A Gathering of Faerie, the sequel to Lament. Does anyone have other urban fantasy/faery series recommendations (other than Wicked Lovely, Wondrous Strange, The Iron Witch, Theatre Illuminata, Faeriewalker, Need and The Modern Faerie Tales)?

message 10788: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire isn't YA but I absolutely love this series. It's urban fantasy & the 6th book just came out. The first is the weakest but it gets better & better.

Thanks, Cassi! It sounds like an interesting series. I'll definitely keep an eye out for it. :)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I really like it. I'm dying to buy the next one (going to bookstore after work today) I follow the author on twitter & she's funny, down to earth & awesome. Which is always a bonus when the book is good as well!

message 10791: by Nichole (new)

Nichole (koliebalolli) | 12 comments That's true. I follow the blogs of several authors, and it's always great when they have good senses of humor rather than being all "high and mighty" and stuff, lol. I need to get on twitter again, if only to follow my favorite authors. :D

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Tweeting with authors is one of the joys of my life.

Rachel Hawkins is hilarious. As is her handfull of a Small Son. That's my recommended follow if you join.

Nichole, have you read Holly Black's books? The three books in the series are Tithe, Valiant, and Ironside. Valiant doesn't completely fit in with the other two books, but characters from it appear in Ironside.

What did you think of Lament: The Faerie Queen's Deception?

message 10796: by Juliann (last edited Sep 08, 2011 06:07PM) (new)

Juliann Whicker | 131 comments Hello! I've just finished Vanish (Firelight, #2) by Sophie Jordan sequel to Firelight (Firelight, #1) by Sophie Jordan
It's so hard for me to like sequels. I wonder why. I really liked the sequel to Never cry Werewolf, but that was unusual for me to like those.

Nichole, I loved Julie Kagawa's Iron series. The first book felt like all the other books in that genre until it got to the iron kingdom part. That's such an interesting concept and she did a great job.

Yes, I have read Holly's books and I LOVED them. Those and Melissa Marr's books were my first glimpses into the world of YA urban-fantasy/faery stories, so my bar is set pretty high. I really enjoyed Lament, though. It's different enough from other series that it stays fresh and interesting, but it's mythologies are similar enough that it's easy to follow what's happening. I definitely recommend it if you're into faery stories! :)

I agree, Juliann! I LOVED the use of the Iron Kingdom and how Julie incorporated into well-known and lovex fey mythology likw it should have been there all along. The final book was a bit predictable because of the title, but I loved it nonetheless. I can't wait for The Iron Knight next month!!

Jessica Nichole- I figured you had probably read them, since they've been around for awhile. But since they weren't on your list, I had to mention them, just in case you hadn't.
