Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments Thought I'd stop in real quick. Life has been busy and it's about to get busier when I start college in a couple of weeks.

I just finished the whole Fablehaven (Fablehaven, #1) by Brandon Mull series in less than two weeks. Fantastic. Thrilling. Adventurous.

I will make sure to stop by more often!

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 242 comments I have just finished Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins and it was amazingggg.

But I'm not sure what to pick up next. Too many options at this point.

It's either Queen of the Dead (The Ghost and the Goth, #2) by Stacey Kade or Prophecy of the Sisters (Prophecy of the Sisters, #1) by Michelle Zink or City of Ashes (The Mortal Instruments #2) by Cassandra Clare or Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins

Beth (the one who is) | 41 comments I am reading A Princess of Mars which si a classic science fiction book. They are making a movie out of it next year

really - everyone is reading french kiss at the moment - I guess I've to add it to my 'to-read' list. Is it just one book or a series?

and about your next choice - please go on with Cassandra Clare and the second and the third book. You'll like it :D

message 10255: by Tina ♥ Bookaholic (new)

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) hey guys

at the moment I'm reading Pretties (Uglies, #2) by Scott Westerfeld the second book of the uglies series and I have to say that I like it, though its a old plot - like other distopies.

My question - isn't it in the book or didn't Westerfeld mentioned nowhere how the characters look like. Has someone an idea what haircolor or eye color David or the others have??

Thanks Martina, hehe.

Yes, do it Anna and The French Kiss is really good. I'm not the biggest fan of contemporary YA to be honest and I loveddd it. The writing for me was just, I don't know how to put it...intelligent? funny, cute, it just was awesome, lol. Well, Anna and The French Kiss is not a series. I mean there is a companion novel coming out in September I believe? called Lola and the boy Next Door
and it does feature the main characters of Anna, but not as the lead characters anymore. The book is focused on a new set of main characters.

No sadly, I have not read the Uglies series yet. Dying to though (I love Dystopian novels). I think they are going to turn the books into movies.

message 10275: by Theo (new)

Theo I'm relatively new to the group. I've been following the thread to see what's popular and what people are reading to expand my knowledge of YA books and now I've decided to stop being a creepy lurker and say hello. So...hi!
I just finished Rewind by Jan Page , a British time travel ghost story.
I'm about halfway finished with The Magicians by Lev Grossman , which is not technically YA, but it won an Alex Award (for adult fiction which appeals to teens).
And I'm starting The Lightning Thief (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #1) by Rick Riordan . I know I'm pretty late to the party, but I've been meaning to read it for awhile and I'm finally getting around to it.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Guys I need someone to talk me off of really going off here. An author just called me prejudice and I'm about to scream. For reals. Please tell me I'm not overreacting.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I know I'm gossip mongering again. I'm just very angry.

message 10280: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh Cassie, you know I love when you gossip monger! :)

I immediately popped over to read, and I have to applaud you. Particularly this bit, " I have no issue if the article said "Margaret & her partner Alicia did such and such." I am not saying that the article should hide who they are but it should not USE their sexuality to create a controversy where there shouldn't be one. And people are just people. I treat gay people the same way I treat straight people. I would not put "Heterosexual couple" in the headline."

Well said! Now I will go back to reading again... I may have more thoughts as I go on.

message 10281: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Oh my god, he did totally called you prejudice! What an ASS!

message 10282: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I KNOW!! And he has a book coming out and he's calling book fans/bloggers (I reviewed his book) names!

He doesn't know me. Who is he to say I'm prejudice? I'm not.

He hasn't responded since I brought up my cousin. That might just be too real for him. Who's the real prejudice one here judging people?

message 10283: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Well and because what your saying is the OPPOSITE of prejudice! When you said that you had no problem with it being titled "Margaret & her partner Alicia Saved Dozens of Campers from Norway Massacre"... well that right there showed that you don't have a problem with the fact that they were gay. Your problem was the use of the word 'Lesbian' because it was only added for sensationalism. It's a tactic to get the article read, purposely putting in words that catch the eye.

message 10284: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I also think it's treating homosexuality like it's a sideshow attraction. More like "Bearded Lady saves people." They saved people because they were good people. Being lesbians is in no way relevant to the story.

I just believe in treating everyone the same. Everyone.

message 10285: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) The sad thing is that it works and that's why they do it. People will stop and read the article because it says "lesbian'. When is society going to stop feeding into verbal segragation like that?

As far as Mike's statement that 'by not putting that they are lesbian's people will believe they are hetro', that's bunk. I don't read an article about something and go 'hmmm, he must be straight'!

message 10286: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I don't know. Probably when sexuality because a non-issue. Someone is always going to use sensationalism to profit. It's just sad to me. I hate when journalists/newspapers aren't ethical. And I consider that unethical & skeevy.

I know! It's cool to imagine the future like how certain ones are described. You get what I'm saying?

message 10290: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I enjoy discussing journalism. It's one of those things I miss from college. Sitting around with other journalism majors talking about journalism thing.

There have probably been problems with journalism probably from the get-go. It's a for-profit business and right now one thats struggling to make a profit. Journalism does a lot of good when it's done well. But I think the internet & struggling sales have brought out the worst in journalism. The internet is the world where videos with "boob shots" get considerably more views on youtube. I hate to think that journalists are using the same web-based tactics. They want to get the click and it doesn't matter how they get it. Ethics are devalued by that mentality.

I don't know why he made those assumptions about me. I was so caught off guard by them. That's not something I'd ever thought I would be called. I worry more about people in the church judging me because I take separation of church and state pretty seriously.

I really enjoyed it as well. Martin Scorsese is directing a film adaptation coming out in November ( http://www.hugomovie.com/ ). The trailer looks good, but it will be interesting to see how such a visual book is adapted. Also, I'm a bit confused why all the Parisians have British accents. I don't understand Hollywood sometimes!
