Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) For any of you who have read The Help by Kathryn Stockett I was wondering if your going to see the movie based on the book? I haven't read it but the movie looked good, but I know what happens when a book becomes a movie...LOL

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I haven't read it YET but I like Emma Stone quite a bit.

I actually liked Inside Out (Insider, #1) by Maria V. Snyder . I do admit it took me a little while to get into it, but once I did, the story was good, and the sequel is much better!

Melissa (melissa_wy) | 112 comments I'm halfway done with Providence by Jamie McGuire and it is quite good so far!

I previously read Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire by the same author and LOOOOVVVED IT! So, I wanted to try something else by her. Providence is YA and Beautiful Disaster is a little more adult =)

message 10106: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I HIGHLY recommend The Help on audiobook. It has won awards and I think it makes it easier to understand the characters dialects. Anywho, I am not sure if I want to see the movie yet. Depends on the reviews.

How was Blood Red Road? I just reserved it from my library."

It was good and a quick read. Reminded me of THG plus The Knife of Never Letting Go with a pinch of Dune, a dash of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and Tremors on the side. Didn't love it but it was entertaining. Stormi- I did like Inside Out though... Gets better as it goes...

I was charmed by the photographs. I started reading Iron House last night and I want to go back home and keep reading. It is a great thriller.

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT BOOK!! I'm glad you are stuck at home, so you can finish it without interruption!! I absolutely adored that book!

message 10120: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Okay, so I tried reading Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater a while back and just couldn't get into it so I tried the audio I got from the audio sync group at this place called Audiobook community...I don't think listening to it has helped any. :( I really wanted to like it but I just can't get into it. :( :(

message 10121: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa_wy) | 112 comments Well Stormi^^ you tried! pat yourself on the back for that at least! Sometimes if you can't do it, you just can't do it...don't torture urself!! haha, hope you like Beautiful Disaster better!!

Don't worry. It is a slow mover. If Jenna Lamia (narrator) can't get you into it nothing will.

Thanks :) I'm nearly done with it. I should be starting Mockingjay tonight. I'm so excited!

message 10127: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Stormi I really REALLY didn't like Shiver. So don't feel bad. At least you have company. Too slow & melodramatic for me. I wanted stuff to actually happen & people to stop staring longingly into each others eyes.

Really people I am a girl, I promise

message 10128: by Stormi (StormReads) (new)

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Cassi,

Thanks, now I don't feel so bad...lol. I thought it was a bit to overly mushy myself and it wasn't flowing right. I guess its just one of those books you either love or your hate. :)

I am having a hard time right now finding something that just grabs me from the begining and I just can't help but want to read it. :(

message 10129: by Heidi (last edited Jul 18, 2011 04:46PM) (new)

Heidi Stormi the second book is even mushier IMO. I looked through your tbr pile and highly recommend Graceling (The Seven Kingdoms, #1) by Kristin Cashore and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak if you want something that grabs you. I loved both on audio btw.

message 10130: by Kurukka (new)

Kurukka I'm currently reading Uglies (Uglies, #1) by Scott Westerfeld and, uh, it looks like ecologist propaganda so far. I don't understand what it has to do with the Uglies/Pretties government system.

message 10131: by Edwin (new)

Edwin (edwinrodarte) | 41 comments I am reading Demonglass (Hex Hall, #2) by Rachel Hawkins right now and was wondering what I should pick out next. I'm debating whether to finish the Immortals series and read Everlasting (The Immortals, #6) by Alyson Noel , continue the Forest of Hands and teeth series with The Dead-Tossed Waves (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #2) by Carrie Ryan or if I should just start a completely new series altogether. Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater , Matched (Matched, #1) by Ally Condie , Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate , Incarceron (Incarceron, #1) by Catherine Fisher , or the The Iron King (Iron Fey, #1) by Julie Kagawa are calling me. :/ Ahhh - I hate decisions. Although from I see many didn't live Shiver here.

message 10132: by Cassi aka Snow White (new)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I liked Incarceron but it's somewhat divisive. Awesome world building. I liked it but others did not. I like Iron King but its fairly romantical (which surprises me that I liked it)

Shiver...depends on how you deal with romance. I like mine low or light-hearted. It was over my mush meter.

I see that Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride is on your TBR list. It's highly recommended. It's more fun in the vein of Hex Hall. Behemoth (Leviathan, #2) by Scott Westerfeld on your TBR list is really good.

Totally stalked your shelves to complicate your decision. You can thank me or throw things at me. Whichever you prefer.

message 10133: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Funny, I was going to say Shiver over Iron King. I've read both of those and preferred the lyricism of Shiver. But I agree that Hold Me Closer, Necromancer is definitely a better choice. I loved that book too. Definitely not Fallen.

I was surprised I liked it. But I did & I'm not going to say otherwise to keep my my no-love appearences, lol. Shiver killed me. And I mean that as no offense to the people who liked it.

message 10135: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Haha, Shiver is a love or hate type of book. I can completely understand why people don't like it. I am surprised that you liked Iron Knight.

message 10136: by Jen (last edited Jul 18, 2011 05:38PM) (new)

Jen (jennifer_ashmy) | 242 comments Edwin, maybe you should finish the Immortals and Forest of Hands and Teeth series. I've been stuck between a lot of indecision lately about what to read next, but I've decided that if I have any series to finish, then I'm gonna finish those first. Kinda like to keep myself organized, haha.

I think faeries can get away with things that real people can't in my mind. They're ancient and inhuman.

That makes two of us who are surprised. lol. Happens sometimes.

I've started thinking that too. I'm going to work on finishing up series that I've been dragging out.

Ha, I should probably take your advice :) These are not the only series that I have left-over. I have a tendency of jumping around series to get some diversity (doesn't help that I pick titles that are too similar sometimes). I have been dreading finishing the Immortals because I read books 1-5 back to back (I guess sometimes I like torturing myself too) and got tired of them. But I'll definitely Check out Hold Me Closer Necromancer. Thanks for the help :)

Jody Kihara (jodykihara) | 169 comments I just finished Mockingjay... I was putting off reading it cause I wanted to try to stretch out the trilogy... whew, what a fantastic three books. I'm blown away by Suzanne Collins' imaginativeness. The level of detail was amazing.

And I just started listening to my first audiobook... The Help. FANTASTIC narration!

message 10147: by Amanda (new)

Amanda Murphy | 96 comments Also, just finished listening to Superior Saturday (The Keys to the Kingdom, #6) by Garth Nix with my kids. It's been a while since I read the rest of the series so I was a bit lost. I would recommend reading all of those books in a relatively short time span!
