Kurukka I try not to read more than one book though I really want to begin another sometimes, lol, I'd just be lost. I abandoned Hosue of Night after the first book, which was okay, but I was not enough interested to read the sequels.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I love Man Vs Wild, btw. Just wanted to throw that in here. Bear is sexy, hahaha.

Amanda wrote: "I've had that same problem, except I saw IT (based on the Stephen King book) when I was 7-8 and am forever terrified of clowns. Plus they're just creepy to begin with."

That's funny, we just talked about this. You should try watching it again now as an adult. I think you'd find it not near as scary. I just watched it for the first time on Saturday after finishing the book. Book was great, movie was hilarious. My daughter loved it. It's a great movie scary movie for kids. There's no gore and the graphics aren't very realistic (not like more modern movies).

message 7003: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Yes Walking Dead is on DVD. It was only 6 episodes, almost like a BBC show. No release date yet for Boardwalk Empire. I am anxiously awaiting that!

I haven't read them. But my cousins have told me that they're excellent.

Jaimie (jaimier) | 1275 comments walking dead was great! my bf loves zombie movies so of course we had to watch it and I was like whatever you let me go all Greys Anatamoy every thursday but I was suprised - in a good way.

message 7007: by [deleted user] (new)

You are all making me want to read It. I liked the movie way back when but have never read any of Stephen King's books with the exception of The Bachman Books by Richard Bachman . I don't like being scared but would love to read more about the friendship between the seven of them.

i wasnt really intersted in reading I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore but now dont even want to let anyone i know read iit or see the movie either! Okay, I have to claim total ignorance here: what, exactly is the "m/m" books talked about here? (It's Monday after stupid Daylight Savings Time - which my 4 year old son could care less about)

message 7012: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments Wendy F wrote: "Finally finished It by Stephen King, tomorrow I'll read Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta."

"It" is still my #1 favorite book of all time. I've read it twice (don't have much time for re-reading) and want to get to it again one of these days. I started rereading all of Stephen King in chronological order a couple years ago and left off with The Stand (another favorite, but I just haven't had the heart to get into it a 3rd time yet). But I LOVED "It". Miss that group. Great characters!

I so hated the television mini-series. Everyone was always, "It was just a giant spider? Lame." Um...no, it wasn't just a giant spider. (As I've mentioned, this is my favorite book, so they had too much to live up to for me.)

message 7014: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I was lost on the m/m thing too Lloyd.

p.s. you are cracking me up with your self pitying ways today. Only love here Lloyd, not hate!

I may try it. I'm still not much on scary movies, not sure why, but they just make me extremely paranoid, especially right after I watch. Like after I saw It, I was terrified to take a bath because I thought he was gonna come up the drain. I still don't like closing my eyes in the shower hah.

Lloyd | 415 comments Catie wrote: "Anyone read these - The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower, #1) by Stephen King et al? They're great if you like epic fantasy."

Yes. I read the first 3 books I don't know how many times. (Re-started each time a new book came out). However, I wound up extremely disappointed with the final 3. I might try again one day.

Everyone thinks Stephen King is all about horror. But for me he is just literary comfort food. Great with characterization.

I don't know how many people are always surprised that he did the story that The Shawshank Redemption was made from. (Different Seasons is a good collection for stories for "new" readers as well.)

message 7018: by Lloyd (new)

Okay. I'm sure my wife would have known the m/m connection. (Since her network of friends seem to mostly be gay). Obviously, I am not. So I wouldn't expect to see me on those boards. (Though I love the Tale of the City books my Armistead Maupin).

Hmm...still not quite sure what I'm going to read next.

To be honest, I don't remember anything being horrible about the book. I thought it was an excellent story and masterfully plotted novel that I'm still envious of. Just one of those books I didn't want to end. Wanted to stay with the characters forever. :P

I finished Outside In late last night, it took me a while to get in the story but after a while I just wasn't able to put it done and had to finish it. It was as good as the first book in my opinion.

I might just do that. Meanwhile, I'll probably just work on
Young Samurai The Way of the Sword (Young Samurai, #2) by Chris Bradford . Need something to raise the testosterone levels a bit. :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll get to that series really soon.

Jamie (bookworm20) | 67 comments Just got done with The Vespertine (The Vespertine, #1) by Saundra Mitchell . Didn't like it. It was a very interesting concept, but the characters, the plot itself, the sluggishness.....it just didnt work for me. :( Now I am reading Camille by Tess Oliver while I am wait for The Piper's Son by Melina Marchetta to arrive! :) Can not wait to read it!

Zoltaire | 11 comments I'm reading THE CONCH BEARER, by Chitra Banerjee Divakurini, a young adult mystical adventure story set in India. She's the author of Mistress of Spices. I've never heard of the publisher which is Roaring Brook Press but the book is awesome so far. Sort of like a young adult version of Raiders of the Lost Ark with magic realism thrown in.

I loved this book Lloyd. I've never really gotten into Stephen King before this, but those kids and that friendship really just got to me. No matter what I'm doing, all of the sudden my brain will go "Beep beep, Richie." and I'll bust into a grin. It's like Stephen King does Stand By Me/Goonies. Which basically equals brilliant.

I was SOOOO disappointed in the movie. 10 minutes into it I turned to my husband and said "Do you feel lost?" Because he didn't read it, and I just felt like it was so obvious that there was so much that wasn't said that needed to be said. And the glory behind It was the friendship and they barely scratched the surface.

It was so much more then just a spider, and killing it with the silver (which wasn't even a slug, mind you) was just... such a lame ending when there was one so much better in the printed book.

I feel like Hollywood could take that book and make something so much better, just by changing the focus from the clown and putting a bit more on the bullying and their youth, it could be awesome.

I'm sure I'll reread this book again.

Despite my hesitation to watch Horror movies, I would DEFINITELY go see that one!

On second thought, It will depend on how they do it.

IT would probably be better served as an HBO/Showtime limited series. Give it the treatment it deserves and the time needed to tell it.

message 7042: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I can agree with that. HBO and Showtime could handle the graphics that it would need, and could afford to stretch it out over a span of time.

My only fear is that once the book was completed that they would attempt to keep going, and that's a peeve of mine, lol. But, I agree that it would be the best scenerio for it.

Still, I feel like with the right director, screenplay writer, and cast they could still make a long big screen picture with integrity. It's the 'integrity' part that worries me. All too often movies from books suck, so I won't get my hopes up.

Caiti, how is the prequel?
