Just finished Hollowland by Amanda Hocking still by Amanda Hocking?
It was the first book I read written by her and what made me what to read more, it's really good. And my first zombie book!
You can be sure I will pick up the rest of her books.

That's great! I tried reading Pride and Prejudice twice or thrice but I never get to finish it for some reason or other, and it's really frustrating. So now I'm listening to Emma on audio book, hopefuly listening instead of reading these classics will get me through all her works too! :)

message 6257: by Susan (new)

Susan I'm now reading Ice by Linda Howard it grabbed me from page one!

Laraine (lala26) | 121 comments Catie wrote: "I love Jane Austen! You can't go wrong with most of her books, although I know everyone has a different favorite. I think my favorite is Persuasion."

I will look out for that one and let you know what I think Catie. :) I don't like that "Clueless" (the movie) keeps popping up in my mind whenever I'm listening to Emma, I just want to focus on it being a classic haha.. Hopefully I won't have that problem with her other works.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I'm still reading Sapphique (Incarceron, #2) by Catherine Fisher and I've been going for just over 100 pages and it seems stuff is finally going to start happening!! The beginning moved a little slowly for me.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments You're listening to some Jane Austen works? Is there a particularly good narrator for her stories??

Reading more of Jane Austen's work is one of my "eventually" lists but if there is good audio things move up very quickly.

message 6261: by Crystal (new)

Crystal Jewell Killeen (ckilleen24) | 40 comments I just finished reading Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning ... and all I can say is WOW!!! :-) If it wasn't for some of the ladies in this group I would never have picked up the first book in this series.. so thank you SO much!!!:-) I am now reading Rose of Par Kluhnd A Fairy Tale by Linda Ash .

message 6262: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I have Darkfever here with me today at work, my friend brought it back after she read it. I'm so tempted to finish One Foot in the Grave and reread Darkfever, lol.

I'm very new to audio books as well so I'm not sure if I can recommend you a good narrator for her works. :) The one I'm listening to is narrated by Michael Page, he has a solid and clear voice. But I think for Jane Austen's works, a female narrator would be more appropriate. I heard a sample in audible.com narrated by Juliet Stevenson and found it as suitable as the one I have. It would depend on your own taste I guess. :)

Next thing you know, you'll be rereading up until Shadowfever again haha... :D

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments You see I've read Pride & Prejudice like 3 or 4 times (for difference classes/fun & such) so I'm trying to branch out.

I'll see if my library has Emma and then maybe research narrators.

hahaha, I have a feeling that's exactly where I'm headed.

Last night I read the interview with Barrons at the end of Dreamfever and it just made me crave the series again.

message 6267: by Heidi (new)

Heidi I love Persuasion. It is filled with such longing!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Hopefully someday I'll check out them all. Audiobooks just seems like a potentially good way (because I drive a decent bit).

message 6269: by Laraine (new)

Laraine (lala26) | 121 comments The ones I saw in audible and amazon by Juliet Stevenson for Emma were unabridged, maybe she has both. lol! Nadia May didn't really appeal to me but I 'll try her for one. :)

Aww such a good line... I'll definitely put Persuasion near the top of my Jane Austen tbr pile haha...

Cassi wrote: "Hopefully someday I'll check out them all. Audiobooks just seems like a potentially good way (because I drive a decent bit)."

Just make sure to check the narrators first because some might make you want to nod off haha...

I haven't read Hollowland yet. The whole zombie thing is not very interesting to me but I'm sure I'll read it sooner or later.

Natasha | 24 comments I'm reading Nightshade and not really enjoying it. Did anyone not like this book? All I can find are positive reviews and I really just can't get into the story.

message 6276: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Wow, I never thought of them as Audio books. So it's multiple narrators and not just one person?

I'll have to get these!

message 6278: by Brandie (last edited Feb 10, 2011 11:24AM) (new)

Brandie Sump TO JULIE AND JETHRO:

If you can find, and want to buy, Jane Austen's complete works go to a local Barnes and Noble or order online at bandn.com because their complete works of hers is in a great binding of a book and it looks really cool too! I haven't purchased it though but my best friend has and it has proven sturdy over the last year since she bought it.

And Jane Austen is on my list too with Emma especially and Pride & Prejudice. I have never been a big fan of Austen because I do not like her look at women, but she is speaking the truth with how British women, from moms to daughters, were acting at her time in life. I even enjoyed the film Emma with Gwen Paltrow as Emma and the film on Austen's life with Anne Hathaway as the author.

Anyway why I want to read them both is because I can relate to Emma in her independentness and her love in meddling in other people's lives because I do that quite alot and I'm very independent like her except that I don't matchmake at all. My reason for P&P is partly my mom ane because there is a fab series that goes beyond Liz and Mr. Darcy's relationship and writes and looks into the lives of their kids and I have wanted to read those books but I thought to start out with P&P then read on with those books.

The reason to read P&P because of my mom is simple: she has acted like Liz's mom in trying to get me to settle down with a guy and have kids since I was 19 because she wants Grandbabies! I am now 26 and have no kids yet which frustrates her even more and a recent birth in the family of her great neice has brought her more frustrastion rather then joy. But that is her deal not mine!

Lady (bestnewfantasyseries) | 5 comments Hello all: I'm new here..just found this group. Wow, what a lot of great info.

I've just started The Chrestomanci Series and am loving it. So well written. And yes, I really enjoy reading young adult fantasy. I guess it's why I chose to write in that genre.

Looking forward to discussions here..

Cheers,

Cheryl Landmark (clandmark) | 148 comments The Chrestomanci Series sounds like a great read. I'm definitely not a young adult anymore, but still young enough at heart to enjoy reading this highly entertaining genre!

Lady (bestnewfantasyseries) | 5 comments Chrestomanci is so delightfully written. Just makes me break out loud laughing. I'm so glad there are 7 books to read..

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Persuasion is my Fav by JA too. I've only read 3 of her books. Emma, P&P, and Persuasion. For anyone interested the BBC version of all those movies is great. (Although I haven't seen Emma) but the other two are fab! Colin Firth in the wet shirt. Sigh... he made me love Darcy more than Jane Austen did.

message 6285: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brittany I am telling you that you need to watch that new Emma BBC series! You will love it.

Good to know! I was wondering how the person who is "The Sky" was going to read that part. My library's Overdrive has all the books on audio now, so I will check it out.

message 6288: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Brandie - I am 39 and have no kids and my life hasn't ended yet, so you can tell your mother I think you will be ok! p.s. that complete works of J. Austen reminds me of the Jane Austen Book Club movie and cute little Hugh Dancy holding that huge book.

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments I have a new addiction, it's called " requesting a ton of books from Netgalley".....I can't seem to help myself on doing this!!!!

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I think I'll do more netgalley when they fix the kindle option. Its kinda been a bummer for me.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Sara,

I know what you mean..I am horrible addicted to Netgalley.

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Sapphique (Incarceron, #2) by Catherine Fisher has REALLY picked up. The first 100 pages were slow (and I believe could have been cut down somewhat) but right now I'm enjoying it.

I know some people are so/so on the Incarceron series so I just thought I'd chime in with my opinion. (Honestly I could almost pick and choose what you needed to read of the first 100 pages. Chapters in Incarceron yes, rest of it not really...)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments I'm curious about the audio. My library had that too but I was in the middle of an audiobook so I didn't grab it. I'm curious as to what accent they use considering "protocol" and "era"

message 6297: by Bethany (new)

Bethany (b_shively) Just got a few books from the library today!
A Great and Terrible Beauty (Gemma Doyle, #1) by Libba Bray A Kiss in Time by Alex Flinn Two-Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
