Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Well, thanks anyway ladies. all our library files are WMA. My phone is a Motorola Droid. I was able to download overdrive to my phone, but I'm having a difficult time accessing library books from the website from my phone. I haven't given up yet. I'll keep trying.

Just for others info. If you type in a search on the internet for "overdrive compatible devices" it bring you right to the list of devices it works with. Strangley my phone is not listed there that I have seen, but it still recognizes it, so it is not a full list. I tell you what, I have learned so much in the past year about all the formats for books and audiobooks it makes my head hurt! Between Overdrive and Audible I don't know what phone I can get that they will both like!

Yay! I am so glad to hear the print version is just as good. I love Jacky - especially when she gets her "time of the month" (I don't think that is giving anything away - hopefully not).

That part cracked me up! The dialect in the book is one of the best I've ever read. Sometimes authors just cannot write in dialect, but L.A. Meyer has a talent for it.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Okay so I finished Across the Universe by Beth Revis and I can say that even though it starts out a bit slow the after about 50 pages it picks up well enough that I was intrigued. I thought it was a pretty decent read, it was different and not so sci-fi that I got lost in the science and for those who thought it might be to lovey dovey it really isn't, its really more about why things are going on on the ship like they are, so give it a try when it comes out if you think it sounds good. :)

Hahaha! Free yourself from the earbuds Catie! Nah I'm just kidding. I still use my earbuds while working out and while I shop (people tend to look at you weird when you listen at the store, but geez I am there for at least an hour per week, so why not get some books in at the same time?)

message 5308: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I finished Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3) by Patrick Ness .

That series was amazing. Too incredible for words. I can't even pick up another book tonight. I still feel too connected to Todd and Viola.

Tomorrow I plan on starting Looking for Alibrandi.

message 5309: by Heidi (new)

Heidi Yay Wendy! 100% agree.

message 5310: by Lloyd (new)

Lloyd | 415 comments Sadly, I'm currently reading too many books at the same time. Normally, I like to just stick to one. But between reading ebooks on my iPod (a Kindle promised in the somewhat near future) and chipping away at Monsters of Men (Chaos Walking, #3) by Patrick Ness , I've gotten carried away. Eventually, I'll be back to one - I hope.

message 5311: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) How far into Monsters of Men are you? It took me about 250 pages or so into it before I just wasn't able to put it down.

Lloyd | 415 comments Wendy wrote: "How far into Monsters of Men are you? It took me about 250 pages or so into it before I just wasn't able to put it down."

Well, I have a 4 year old son who gets the majority of my time. I can only squeeze in reading on the bus trip to/from work. I used to also read on my lunch hour, but lately that has been taken up watching Dexter. (I have fallen out of watching television, but streaming Netflix on my iPod has been a fun change of pace. Though I hate it cutting into my reading time.)

I am currently only 100 pages into it.

message 5313: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Ah, yeah. I had the same problem. Except for the Dexter, haha. For me it's my 6 year old and watching General Hospital with my husband. I got him hooked. :)

I grew up with three older sisters. I used to watch GH way back in the old days with Luke/Laura, Robert Scorpio, etc. :P

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Finished The Book Thief yesterday. It was really an amazing story. It was also very depressing, but that was expected given the content.

I need a real picker upper after that!! Hopefully Finnikin of the Rock will get the job done. :)

Yay! Glad you liked it. It is hopeful at the end though - right? Finnikin is more action than uplifting, but hopefully it helps :)

message 5318: by Kourtni (new)

Kourtni (kourkyloo) | 602 comments Yes, we got a little taste of hope there at the end, which was much needed. Action is great for me! I'm really looking forward to Finnikin!

I am currently reading The Crow by Alison Croggon and listening to Bloody Jack 1

Becca | 1608 comments Just finished On the Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta . Moving on to Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins .

message 5321: by Gwennie (new)

Gwennie (blessedwannab) Thoughts on Jellicoe?

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments Yes Becca, what did you think?

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments You just finished one of my favorite books I read this year and are going to start another of my favorites. Sounds like happy reading times!

Some authors were taunting me about the next Hex Hall book on twitter. Okay maybe not taunting, but talking about its awesomness in the presence of those of us who have not experienced...when is torture in itself...

message 5324: by Brandi (last edited Jan 10, 2011 12:49PM) (new)

Brandi Hi all! I am about to start the second Gini Koch book Alien Tango (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #2) by Gini Koch Dont let the hokey title/storyline fool you, this was such a suprise! The author is FUNNY! I was laughing out loud the whole way through the book, and I couldnt put it down. I read it til 4 am lol. I would have gotten this one the next day but my book store sucks and I had to order it.

Sara (rose081900) | 177 comments I'm currently reading Sh*t My Dad Says by Justin Halpern , after I'm done with that I'll be reading Ape House by Sara Gruen , after I'm done with that I'm going back to Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1) by Amanda Hocking . I know the first two aren't YA (at least I don't think they are) but figured I'd just add those here anyways....

If you want to laugh until you cry you should seriously read the Sh*t My Dad Says though, it's hilarious and not a very long book either.

message 5326: by Becca (new)

Becca | 1608 comments You'll have to go to the Jellicoe thread to read my thoughts on it because it's completely spoilerized and I'm still mad enough that I don't want to write a review yet.

I was in a state of shock. I just cannot imagine anyone not liking that book. It was one of those "does not compute" moments in life. Don't worry, I'm breathing normally again.

Stormi (StormReads) (bmreviewsohmy) Hi Fizza,

I liked the first Percy Jackson book, though its the only one I have read..lol.

Peep, Brittany,

You guys are so funny..I haven't read Jellicoe yet and I am almost curious but don't know if I want to read such a big book..I hate it when books are over 400 pages..LOL

Peep (Pop! Pop!) Stormi wrote: "....don't know if I want to read such a big book..I hate it when books are over 400 pages..LOL "

It's not that long. It's a shorter book (height wise), so really it's only about 188 pages long.

Did that help?

And thank you ladies, but it was Brittany that made me laugh... over my aching heart and shattered shelf pride.

Brittany (finally graduated and can once again read for fun) | 1328 comments I agree with Peep. It's a short book with large print so it's really not that long.

Peep wrote: "but it was Brittany that made me laugh... over my aching heart and shattered shelf pride. ."

"Aching heart and shattered shelf pride"? Dramatic much? (not that I'm any better)

Fear not Becca, just because we disagree on one book doesn't mean I want to call it quits. I have faith that our literary like-mindedness shall perserve through this minor set back and be stronger for it. (See, I'm so much better)

Cassi aka Snow White Haggard | 2261 comments Reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Oxford World's Classics) by Arthur Conan Doyle on my kindle (it's free!). Enjoy how I can read it in small disconnected sections (and can read between other books a section or two)

Hahaha! I'm wondering if you'll agree somewhat with my review. I am bordering on loving it, but there's just one small hitch that I can't get over and I couldn't figure out what it was until I wrote my review. And now I can be at peace over the book. Lol!

Emily (bookqueen79) I'm reading Nevermore by Kelly Creagh. If I didn't have to work in the morning I'd finish it up tonight. It's very compelling.

Megan (megg_reads) | 34 comments Although not YA fiction, im assuming I can post here anyway ;)

Just started WAR by Sebastian Junger ... First non fiction book ive read in a while, but after watching the documentary "Restrepo" it was a must. I actually bought it for my husband, because he was at the same outpost with these men for a brief period when he was deployed. But I wanted a better understanding of what some of our soldiers go through over there.

Now I'm going to read Ape House, yeah another one that isn't YA, but I've heard good things about it....

I agree. This was an excellent book and a really good read if you need a laugh. I laughed and had a smile on my face through the entire book.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) I like the Maximum Ride books. I love the stance on Global Warming and the environment.

Angel (Maximum Ride, #7) by James Patterson comes out February 14th, so only a month away.

Ive heard they get better as the series goes on, but Ive really enjoyed the first two so far. Its hard to believe that they get better than the Hawk and Grimm. ;)
