Young Adult Fiction for Adults discussion
What are you reading now?
Yeah, the Amazon backlog is one of the reasons I went with the Kindle over another e-reader. Don't get me wrong, I love it. Those are just my book vs. e-book guidelines when I'm thinking about buying.
I love having my audio books on it and laying it on my pillow for an hour of listening before I fall asleep.
I bought Crank by Ellen Hopkins yesterday afternoon and devoured it in about 4 hours. It's a book that not only makes your heatstrings tug, it makes you think. A little haunting. :)

I just feel..."Shannen I haven't read Jellicoe Road yet but you will LOVE Finnikin. It is kind of a mystery but more of a quest. I have heard a lot of how Jellicoe is slow to start but I didn't feel that way about Finnikin so I think they are pretty different.
I would say Finnikan has a twist but it is more of a straight forward story than Jellicoe (which is my favorite!)
Wendy wrote: "It's actually more of a Fantasy then historical fiction, but yeah some people have a hard time getting into them."Is it set back in time? I read the first chapter and I have never been much of a history buff and it seemed like it was going to be a fantasy set back in time. I guess I'm not sure what to call it.

I read more at lunch. The last paragraph of Chapter 17 changed everything for me.

Oh man! Okay, I'll just check and see when I get home... you shouldn't post it for those who haven't read.
Wendy wrote: "oooooh, I dont' have my book with me! What was the paragraph?!"
I won't post it. I suppose I could go into the Jellicoe spoiler thread really quick and post it there. :)

I just finishedThe Dark Divine by Bree Despain and enjoyed it very much. Next I'm on to Before I Die by Jenny Downham.
I just finished Lord Of The Flies, now I am reading Linger by Maggie Stiefvater and Rebel Angels by Libba Bray :)
I started On the Jellicoe Road yesterday (and then discovered the conversation here already going about it!). I'm a little confused, but the writing is fantastic, so I'm staying with it, hoping things will clear up as I continue.
I loved both of them..Godd choices!rstar.jackson wrote: "I just finished Lord Of The Flies, now I am reading Linger by Maggie Stiefvater and Rebel Angels by Libba Bray :)"

Just finished
and OMYGOODNESS LOVE THIS SERIES.But you know how hard it is to start a book after you've finished an AMAZING book? Yeah hard. I have a pile of books for Christmas but don't know what to follow with that won't disappoint me....
Here are my options:
Leaning towards Artificial Night or Give up the Ghost because they are less dystopian and probably harder to compare to the Chaos Walking series as I read.

Crank is one of my favorite books of all time. I read it for the first time in sophomore year of high school (about 6 years ago) and the story still sticks with me. I love love love it.
I'm still slowly working my way through the Pretty Little Liars series. I'm on book 7 out of 8 and I feel like the author dragged this out soooo long. I just want to know what happens in the end!

I just picked up The Maze Runner a few weeks ago, and it is next on the pile. Just finished Guardian Spirit, which was a good read, and am working through Rebel Angels.
Libba Bray makes me proud to be included in the same genre she inhabits! I hope to find readership for my book Max and Menna like what she has found with the Gemma series. It is a writer's dream.
Let me know what you think of Maze Runner.
Heidi I wrote: "Cassi wasn't Monster's of Men excellent??? I love that series."It was excellent, heart-wrenching and soul-destroying. LOVED IT!

I really enjoyed Christopher Moore's love story trilogy. I confess that and Lamb are the only books of his I have read thus far. My next Christopher Moore book is going to be A Dirty Job. I heard it's really great on audio. Maybe check that one out. Also if Shakespeare is more your style I'd go with reading Fool.

I'm dying to reread these. I'm trying to hold off!
I'm getting close to wrapping up
. Like certain scenes in the first book, I find myself wanting to yell at the stupidity of the actions of the characters sometimes. But, other than that, I'm enjoying the series.
I'm halfway through The Knife of Never Letting Go. There's a good chance I'll finish it tonight. It's really good, I'm definitely hooked. Sometimes it takes alot of concentration (or consentrayshun as Todd would say) because of the purposeful grammer errors and miss-spelled words. At first I almost gave up because I was so focused on trying to read the words that I wasn't getting the story. It's gotten alot easier though.
I think Patrick Ness uses the bad grammar just enough (and mainly in the beginning of the book I felt like). Considering the education level of Todd he could have gone all out with the misspellings, but he used just enough to get the point across. When you finish you're going to want the next one immediately...because it ends on a cliffhanger.
I just finished reading Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barners and I really liked it :) It's a good book to share with my 12 year old Daughter :) I am now starting Crave by Laura J Burns and Melinda Metz - Looks good so far :)
I just finished
. Now I'm going to read
. A friend bought me the two first books of the trilogy for Xmas after he lost a bet we made :D
Lloyd wrote: "To be honest, if it weren't for my 4 year old son I wouldn't be very excited about Christmas at all. I miss having the time to curl up for hours on end with a good book. (THAT would be a great gift..."Hey Lloyd.
I remember once you asked if there were any e-readers that were back lit? You prolly know the answer to that as I am wayyy behind times, but I just got a Nook Color and it is back lit. :)
Cassi wrote: "I think Patrick Ness uses the bad grammar just enough (and mainly in the beginning of the book I felt like). Considering the education level of Todd he could have gone all out with the misspelling..."Oh definitely. And once I got used to it it got alot easier. I completely understand why he wrote it the way he did, not only to show Todd's illiteracy but also his accent. It was just not an effortless read like I'm used to. It tripped me up often in the beginning.
For a couple of pages I thought it was set somewhere in the deep south....not sure if the description said it was on another planet but the accent made me think Louisiana swamps in a post-apocalyptic world.Finished Give up the Ghost...I liked it quite a bit but in some places it felt...abrupt. Like there needed to be a little more in places. But overall liked it.
I too stumbled over the spelling initially; I'm a languages/linguistics student so it's very hard for me to stop my mind from latching on to things like that! Managed after a while though :)I just finished
, which was good - fast-paced, with sympathetic characters that I kind of wanted more time to bond with! Reminded me of the Hunger Games, unsurprisingly. Now back to my painfully slow progress with
! Or maybe I'll be lazy and start
... :)

, too. I'm curious what you think when you finish it.
Cécilia wrote: "I just finished

I finished On the Jellicoe Road, and folks here were right...very worth pushing through the initial confusion. I loved it.

Plus, you CAN keep copies of the files on your computer and Kindle. But it's nice to know that you can always recover them from Amazon if all else fails.
