message 1: by Robert (new)

Robert (rdowens) I am new to BookCrossing. I released a few books earlier in the month. I have several more ready to go.

BC and GR work well with my project of organizing (and decluttering). We have 1000+ books to catalog. Most will be released once entered here at GR. It's a slow process, but I am beginning to see a way of kicking into high gear.

It's nice to "meet" everyone here.

Paula | 72 comments Welcome Robert, hope you enjoy BC. I've been doing it for a while and am so addicted. Have fun!

Beth (eparks4232) | 12 comments Hi, I've been on BC for awhile and GR since right before the holidays. I'm really enjoying the challenges on BC--they have really increased my reading!

CynthiaA (bookthia) | 11 comments Hi Robert. I hope you'll have fun with bookcrossing. For me, I love to hear about what other people are reading and why they liked or disliked some books!

message 5: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Keep listing your books on swap - I for one still have lots of books on my wishlist!

Amy (bookczuk) | 97 comments Decluttering via BookCrossing... ha! Most of us find that we end up with even more books! But then again, they move out pretty quickly so maybe it all works out.

Welcome!

Skyring | 12 comments It's when you go to library sales to buy books to release that you know you are in trouble...

Pete, deep in it

message 8: by Amy (new)

Amy (bookczuk) | 97 comments @Pete Been there. Done that.

message 9: by Skyring (new)

Skyring | 12 comments I can't pass up a copy of Jaws without thinking of a dentist waiting room. I blame you for that one.

message 10: by Amy (new)

Amy (bookczuk) | 97 comments How did I get blamed for that? I don't think I've ever done that theme, though it's a good one!

message 11: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I have to visit yard sales, thrift stores, etc. to get books to release because I run an OBCZ and can't read fast enough to keep the shelves there filled. I get a few donations, but not many.

I put a message on OBCZ Manager (BC Forum) asking for donations for my OBCZ & got a few.
I've just looked and seen that Tribefan has books they'd like to send;

I'm in the UK but could send you a couple of books.
Good luck.

Amy (bookczuk) | 97 comments *Waves to Tribefan*! Yep, she and hunterRyu are most generous in helping to stock OBCZs. People drop books off at my OBCZs pretty regularly, and by now, friends know they can dump -- I mean give-- their discards to me to bookcross. Plus the charity shops here can be a great source for me. (I also volunteer for our local friends of the library, and work weekly in the "sorting room" where all the donations come in. It's hard to walk out without books because I get a discount, as well as free pickings for all the discards that won't make the sales.)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I've asked in the yahoo group a couple of times, got one box. I'm ok at the moment because we just cleared off a couple of my son's shelves of books he's outgrown, and I'm trying to read hard.

But do any of you have any idea why my 'clients' aren't cooperating? Less than 1% catches, few donations, and almost none of those are registered.... I started another thread so if anyone has thoughts please share over there - thank you!

Btw, I tried to volunteer for my Friends of Library but they were awfully clique'y and unwelcoming. Frustrating. They're pretty old though so maybe I can out-wait them....

Have you thought of creating a Goodreads group for your geographical area?

message 17: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Dot, that's not a bad idea. I'll have to think on it. Thanks!

message 18: by Dorothy (new)

Dorothy (vilette) | 59 comments We have one for Victoria BC and I have met some great people through it. We occasionally meet for bookswaps and most of us are also BC member

message 19: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) I think I'll do this. I know that one of the first things I did when joining goodreads was look to see if there was a group in my geographical area.

Judy (judygreeneyes) | 145 comments Hi Robert -- nice to have a new BCer! I've been doing it since 2006 and am such an addict.

Ape | 8 comments Hello Robert and everyone. I have been in bookcrossing for years and years... goodreads slightly less (maybe a year or something!) and this group... oh, all of a few minutes!
