SOLVED. Creepy Children's book- about a boy escaping from evil creatures. [s]

I can't remember the name; I read it when I was really little. I remember the illustrations were in black and white, and it was about a little boy. Something about him being dragged underground. There were monsters (a witch? a flying something? giant bugs?). Something about being kidnapped in a bag, then escaping that into something worse. The whole book was very much a "frying pan into the fire" type of deal. I think in the end it was all a dream. It was incredibly creepy. Book was probably published in the 80's. I read it in the early 90's. I believe it was in horizontal format.

You're very welcome! This is actually the second time I've ID'd this book for someone (the other time wasn't at this site). It was one of my favorites as a kid, and still is. Good luck finding a copy, though; James Flora's work is hard to get, and in demand.
