Oh poutine for sure (but only up north poutine, it’s terrible down here) and a cheeseburger from that place on the 400 just north of Barrie.

Poutine is only one of the greatest culinary contributions from Canada! You have to use special poutine gravy, which has to be heated to just the right temperature so that it melts the cheese curds sprinkled liberally on your well crisped hand cut fries (they have to be crispy so they don’t get soggy). It tastes like... heaven and is so decadent and rich that I eat it only once a year, if that.

Poutine alone would be worth the airfare.

:D It does kind of sound like that... and some other words too, but I’m too new to share that link, maybe next week.

@Suefly- bad food is the best! Well worth a road trip. I like to go to restaurants featured on ‘Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives’. Yum.

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Helena, Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives’ was exactly what I thought of when I saw this thread. Or the other show is 'The Best Thing I Ever Ate'... oh my, now that is food porn! :D

I would absolutely glut myself on:
BBQ Bacon Burger from The Willamette Burger Company here in Salem (one of the two great restaurants here, the other is The Willamette Noodle Factory)
Seafood & Corn Chowder with yeast rolls & honey butter
The WBC BLT Sammich (Loaded with Bacon!)- (see above)
Spicy Sweet potato fries
Toasted garlic mozzarella Bruschetta

Coffee au lait & Beignets from Cafe Du Monde
REAL chocolate mousse
Freshly baked almond & chocolate croissants
Almond meringue cake with raspberry & cream filling
Egg nog ice cream with a ribbon of fudge

Yea, I'd rather die from a diabetic coma & a big ol' smile on my face. Damn, now I'm hungry!

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I went out for a work lunch today and I'm full. The thought of more food is making me feel ill. I'll happy to go to the gallows without a last meal.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) If I knew I was about to die, I'd be sick to my stomach and wouldn't want food.

Last meal before going on a fast though? Either some really good Italian or a massive bowl of comfort food, like pot pie with extra crust so it's like straight up mush.

Yum! I'm drooling just reading that list. I think I could eat myself to death before they'd get a chance to execute me.

message 22: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments My all-time favorite meal is a seafood salad, eaten preferably outdoors on a sunny patio where I can smell the sea. The salad may include crunchy cold baby greens, arugula, shrimp, scallops, lobster and squid, all tender and not a hint of rubbery overcooking. The dressing is very light, maybe lemon juice and olive oil or white balsamic vinegar and oil.

And of course, a big chilled glass of Sav. Blanc, New Zealand origin.

Me too... think how that would spoil their fun. If you ate yourself to death before they could kill you!

Oh yes Cosmic Sher- The Best Think I Ever Ate is great too... yep food porn is a good way to describe it. I think I musts add to me list:

Osso Bucco with polenta (home made, with cream and asiago)
Cheesecake with fresh blueberries
filet mignon, rare with bleu cheese butter on top
home made mac’n’cheese
my nona’s lasagna (you could sink a ship with it, it’s so heavy)
A whole whack of fresh seafood... crab, shrimp, mussels, clams, scallops, oysters, all steamed served with butter for dipping.
Vietnamese Pho (noodle soup) with seafood.

My cheerios suddenly don’t seem so appetizing.

Yes! Webbers... you have to stop there one day. Best truck stop burgers :) There’s good reason for those long lines. Yes, our poutine is bad. Real bad.

Now, I do have one complaint about food in the north. Specifically pizza. Not sure about the pizza in Sudbury, but the pizza in TBay, Geraldton, & Longlac is bad. They used weird german salami instead of pepperoni and tomato paste for sauce. The only chicken wings I’ve had up there were baked. Blech! I had a perfectly lovely turkey sandwich in Sudbury. ;-)

I forgot a coupla things:
Straight-from-the-oven-fluffy Dutch Babies with fresh berries & semi-sweet chocolate chips & maybe toasted almonds
Crepes with sweet marscapone cheese & lemon filling
Dark chocolate mocha with that perfect balance between bitter & just sweet
A big ole bowl full of fresh berries & sweet cream
Gourmet quiche w/ham & white cheeses
Thick cut peppered bacon fried up all crispy

I have a friend in North Bay that I visit from time to time- I will certainly try Grecos (on Algonquin)!

No but I love Mt. Desert Island. I ate at Jordan Pond House a couple years ago. Not the best meal on the island, but still good. And there's a charming hike around the pond.

Rachel | 1106 comments My tastes are quite simple, really. I don't suppose it's too much to ask for

Chocolate, frosted cupcakes, chocolate cupcakes, steak, gelato, macaroni and cheese, grilled salmon, fettucini carbonara, garlic bread,
Bakkwa, Nachos Tomato/BBQ, Twisties Lurve all flavours, peaches, pears, nata de coco, mangos, mashed potatoes, scones and cream and jam, black seedless grapes, unagi, ebiko, squid sushi, candied apple, hot chocolate, stuffed mushrooms, lasagna, chocolate fruit crepe with whipped cream, egg tarts, mini tiramisu, churros, abalones, scallops, sheperds pie, things with cheese, creme brule, greasy chewy bacon, and BbQ-ed or black pepper lamb (I'm allergic, but since I'm on death row, what the heck).

On another note, I am rather alarmed at the revelation that Cosmic Sher eats dutch babies. There are more humane ways to thin out the population of the Netherlands.
