Gordon always makes me think of the character from Thomas the Tank Engine. He was amazing.

Isaac | 8014 comments Oh, I remember him.

message 804: by tesni (new)

tesni (akhmatova) | 5031 comments He amused me to no end.

...Gordon Brown only occurred to me like ten minutes later. Oh dear.

Garret and I watched Thomas the Tank Engine ALL THE TIME. And we have a giant box full of Thomas train sets. :D We used to play games with them and have plots and everything. There was an evil helicopter that would steal all the trains and then other trains had to go save them. Aah, that was so fun.

Trufax.

...I didn't even know they had Thomas the Tank Engine in America. Huh.

Girl, I owned those railroads. Still do, in fact.

message 816: by Isaac (new)

Isaac | 8014 comments I never owned them. But I loved to play with them.

((Okay, I'll admit, I'll go "play" with my sister at Barnes and Noble but I just like moving them around on the track.))

Hehe, I always play with the little kid toys in waiting rooms.

Isaac | 8014 comments I like the train tracks and the little bead things on the plastic stringy-raily-tracky things.

YES. Those things are so entertaining.

Interesting how a simple name sparks a 50-post discussion on Thomas the Tank Engine.

SHABAM!

message 823: by Jo (new)

Jo (Penname8) | 1574 comments I used to watch that. But it wasn't my childhood. I guess my childhood was old The Magic School Bus re-runs.

message 824: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Oh my squash, my friend Jewel and I are obsessed with The Magic School Bus. We always talk about it in Science class. xD

message 825: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (flwurautumn) | 4987 comments I love Magic School Bus! I have this teacher that's a slightly more cynical version of Ms. Frizzle that I positively love.

message 826: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
JEALOUSY.
Hehe, Jewel and I convinced our Science teacher to watch it because he'd always make fun of it and scoff when we referenced it and he told us that it's "actually educational" after he watched it. WIN.

message 827: by Autumn (new)

Autumn (flwurautumn) | 4987 comments YES! I can't believe he'd never watched it. His life was so deprived.

message 828: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
And he was a Science teacher! Magic School Bus should be a requirement for that!

Question About Names:

I'm (possibly) going to write an original princess story. The names are all going to be Welsh based names.

The prince (or main love interest) is named Drystan. The villian is named Gwendolyn.

I can't figure out a name for the princess.

I was considering Rhiannon, but then the three main characters' names end with an "en" sound. It's not a big deal, because A LOT of Welsh names I've found do, but I want to try and avoid that.

I was also thinking about naming her Delyth (which means pretty) since the princess is extremely gorgeous and that's one of the main points, but I don't know if I like "Drystan and Delyth" since they both start with D.

I was also looking at Eirian, which means "bright and beautiful" but I'm not sure.

Which one do you think would be best? Or do you have an female Welsh name suggestions?

Thanks so much! :D

message 831: by Elliott (new)

Elliott | 22634 comments Mod
Oh, I like that. I'll add it to the list of names I'm looking at. Ah, yeah, I was worried about pronunciation with "Eirian" and now that you've confirmed it... I'll get rid of it.

*loves* Welsh is so cool. I remember being so confused when I found out that Ioan Gruffudd's name is pronounced Yo-wahn Griffith. My sister lived in Wales for a few weeks, and she helped me learn that really long city name which I cannot spell. AND IT'S SO PRETTY. Anyway.

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch? xD
It's actually a village (village/town/somewhere in between? O__o), but yeah. I've never been, alas. Most of my family is from South Wales, and Anglesea (the island where Llanfairpwllgyngyllafhksdjfhdkdjf is) is up in the north and probably like five hours away or something from here, so.

Meep, yes, I love the way they all look together. <3 I'm going to use those names for now and if something happens and I need to change them, I can always change them. But they make me happy.

I really like the name Taran for the love interest in my new "story idea", but that's the name of the main guy in The Black Cauldron. I can't steal from Lloyd Alexander.

I like Eirian, and I've got one welsh name that I use over and over. It's Anwyn, which means "fair" and something else that I can't remember.

message 850: by [deleted user] (new)

I need help naming a character.
She's kind of a loner (who might end up with goblin blood in her, depending on how things go) with long blakc hair and big blue eyes.
I'm going for a tuff sounding name, but not too tuff because she's got to be vulnerable too.
And NO ONE suggest Adrian. I've heard that so many times...
