Sydney (sydneyh) Just curious how one obtains these copies? Working in TV news, I received many books before they were available in stores. This was so that either I )as a producer) or an anchor could read the book and write interview questions if we lined up an interview with said author. (I didn't line up ever single author who came along... just one's who interested me. It was nice to be able to make those decisions!)

I imagine most of these go to people who review books for a living, but it just seems like in my experience here and on bookmooch, LOTS of people are getting these advanced reader copies. I always find it amazing when I see a review of a book that hasn't even come out in stores yet. It makes me wonder if the people have actually truly read the book (via an ARC) or if they're just making it all up.

Selfishly, I also would LOVE to be one of those readers to receive those ARCs.

Anyone have insight on this one?

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I know that some websites I belong to allow you to enter advance copies contests. My favorite being bookreporter.com. If you belong to a book club you can also get advanced copies for your group on readinggroup guide and various others. As I get my monthly emails I will post the information if you would like.

Sydney get out of my head! I had these very same thoughts just the other day.
I had contacted a couple of publishing companies to possibly get our group the opportunity of doing advanced readings for upcoming books.
Thanks for the link Meg I registered us with them also.
Jo is also working with me on this project and we are making contacts with different publishers, authors and literary groups to get our groups information out there.
This is such a unique group of women from all ages, backgrounds, and regions that I feel it is the perfect match for those that want to know honest opinions about books and content within.

Sydney (sydneyh) Tera! I laughed out loud when I saw your comment! Sorry! But I have been reading your mind... and you should be ashamed of yourself! kidding. ;-)

I've gotten a couple of ARC's through bookmooch, but like I said, the books I got through working in TV weren't true ARC copies, they were the same copies you saw in the bookstore, I just got 'em a few weeks to a month early.

Robyn (roxy_nj) | 354 comments I'd be all over reviewing books although I'm not very good at describing things so perhaps I would suck at it. Plus if I'm not liking a book, forget finishing it! that would probably be a no-no in book review world
