Jim | 6484 comments Is it a scary road Janice? It appears to be the work of the devil.

message 102: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) There have been a relatively high number of fatalities on the road, but it has more to do with the condition of the road, the high level of oilfield/logging traffic, and drinking and driving than anything supernatural.

There is talk of making this a log haul road which will make it even more dangerous. Canfor and Weyerhaueser both have their own roads (built and maintained by them). But another company doesn't want the expense.

Still, it's kind of cool to live on the Devil's Highway.

Janice (jamasc) What was the video Janine? It says it's not available in my country. :(

message 105: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) AC/DC - Highway To Hell (with Bon Scott)

Lyzzi do you like ants?

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Gail, your avatar is adorable.

It's lucky the thing she's stuck in is pink not brown. :)

message 118: by Lori (new)

Lori Gail that is GREAT!

I love the way I'm hidden behind everyone, you really have to blow that area up to see me. That suits me.

message 119: by [deleted user] (new)

It's a little crowded in your neck of the woods Lori.

message 120: by Lori (new)

Lori It sure is!

Must be bubble gum.

Lyzzibug ~Still Breathing~ (lyzzibug) | 708 comments Alright, who spit their gum out and didn't put it in the trash?

message 123: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix (phoenixapb) | 1619 comments Hey thanks for putting me on the map even though I've been MIA. I love the caption, it's perfect. My family and I have been on the hunt for a state that will embrace our "damn yanky" ways...Indiana is lookin pretty good. Ball State University in Muncie seems to have what the hubs is lookin for education wise.

switterbug (Betsey) (goodreadscomswitterbug) | 2 comments I live in Austin where we like to keep it weird.

Phoenix (phoenixapb) | 1619 comments To TC Switterbug!!!
Weird is something we have in abundance around here :)

Jim | 6484 comments I second the Welcome Switterbug.

switterbug (Betsey) (goodreadscomswitterbug) | 2 comments Thanks!~ The slogan to Austin is Keep Austin Weird. The evil developers want to turn us into Dallas, though. Austin has been a buzzing boho hippie nest since eternity. But a lot is changing, and that is sad.

message 129: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments I love Austin! Fight the power. Welcome, switterbetsey.

message 130: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Well, until the past couple of weeks, I would have agreed that Madison was going down the same path as Austin. They are so similar in many ways. Keep up the good fight switterbug.

message 131: by [deleted user] (new)

Um, every third person on the road in Portland has a "Keep Portland Weird" bumper sticker. Maybe we're sister cities or something?

message 132: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Have you watched Portlandia?

message 133: by [deleted user] (new)

SP, nope...I've heard of it, but not really about it if that makes sense.

message 134: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments It's pretty funny stuff. If you look up "Thunderant" on Youtube you can see some of the skits.

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

Is it a tv show?

message 136: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Thunderant is the name that Fred Armisen (from SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (from Sleater-Kinney) gave their collaboration. They did a bunch of DIY videos that they put up on their website and on youtube, then IFC picked it up as a series, dubbed Portlandia. They reused a lot of the characters from the earlier videos, but did new skits.
I thought this one was really funny - Bun would appreciate it too.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments Hee! I love that Sissalee prefers to go to a home with no children and no adults. :)

message 138: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep, that's very "Portland-ish"!

Yes! I liked the incongruous breeds that they came up with.

message 140: by Jim (new)

Jim I live near Perigeux, France. How do I get on the map?

PS. Your all a little nutty, aren't you?

Sally and what army?

Hi Phil, just popped into this group today. I have some serious reading to do and this group seemed like the best way to avoid it...

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments If you have anything really important to do today, just bring a hot drink & come along for the ride. We're excellent procrastinators.

I'm in a different time zone (GMT -1 hour), so I've already had my coffee. Thinking about slipping into a dry martini.

It's always a great day to be alive Cynthia. Now if I could just figure out how to accomplish all I want with out having to have a job to pay for it.

message 148: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Paschen | 7333 comments Right. It's going to take me another hour to catch up on TC since I was gone all weekend (my niece's wedding in Chicago.)

Here, here, old Jim!!

BTW, I'm only two years younger than you (and so not that new) and know what you mean. I lost my last high-paying job in 2006!

This the third or fourth weekend in a row that I haven't gotten on the computer, it is extremely difficult to get caught up after the weekend. I just can't hit the "mark all as read" for some reason.
