She swiped them side to side, one above the other. The swipes were slanted, I guess you'd say. The bottom stripe started at the very bottom corner on one side of her nail, but ended about a third of the way up on the other side. I don't know if I'm describing it all that wonderfully. The next stripe was the same width from side to side then she painted what was left at the top, which was just the opposite of the first swipe (wide on the first side, slimming down to just a corner on the other side). I hope that made even the tiniest bit of sense. I would post a pic, but I still haven't figured out how.

I'd love to see some pictures of her work - can you post them for us?

I was telling her about bragging about her talents and told her I wanted to post some pix, but I don't know how because you have to go through photobucket and then some other stuff that I just don't understand. She tried explaining it to me (because she was flattered someone wanted to see her work) but my brain completely flatlined about half way through. She said she's going to show me how to do it, so, hopefully, I'll be able to start posting some of her stuff up.

Amy Neftzger (neftzger) | 304 comments Looking forward to the pictures, Angela!

p.s. right now my nails are "Midnight in Moscow."

message 56: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments The more pictures, the better, I say!

Yeah, Angela, as long as the pictures are on your computer you can use free services (like flickr, photobucket, etc..) to "host" them online. Then you just use the html code (Goodreads shows in the "some html is ok" link) to stick them in the thread. After you do it once it'll seem easy. :-)

message 57: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Angela, has your daughter thought about having a blog? Blogger really makes uploading pictures idiot-proof, and if she wants to increase her nail clientele, a web address might help.

Oh, and my nails are painted with Zoya Sam.

message 58: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Now my nails are Zoya Sam with a coat of DelSol Trick or Treat.

message 59: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments I keep seeing all of these polish names but they don't mean anything. :-( We need more pictures! (or at least links to the polish colors) :-)

message 60: by Jammies (new)

Jammies There are some pictures here, Gertie, if you don't mind looking at really short fingernails: http://baublesandbubbles.blogspot.com/

message 61: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Hey you can still see the colors so that is good enough! I like the Finger Paints Holly Good Time, seems very Happy New Year-ish.

message 62: by Amy (new)

Amy Neftzger (neftzger) | 304 comments I love the names. I think I'd enjoy a job making up the names for the colors. Unless I could get a job naming rock bands.

message 63: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Amy, one of my favorite blogs is http://stupidnailpolishnames.blogspot... I just wish the blogger would update more often!

message 64: by Amy (new)

Amy Neftzger (neftzger) | 304 comments Oh, Jammies - that is great! I'm going to have to follow that blog!!

message 65: by Jammies (new)

Jammies I really really wish she'd update, what with Illamasqua having polishes named Throb, Load and Taint recently!

message 66: by Ruby (new)

Ruby Tombstone Lives! (rubytombstone) Squeeee - taint! Now I want taint on my fingernails.

message 67: by Ruby (last edited Oct 06, 2011 05:21AM) (new)

Ruby Tombstone Lives! (rubytombstone) In the meantime, to entertain Gertie, here's some of my favourite recent toenails. These are fun to do because they last forever.
Spotty

Flamer
I think this was taken the same day I did it, so there were a few smeary bits on the skin. It washes off in the shower though.

message 68: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Flaming toes! Awesome. And the others have kind of an alien hippie look that is fun.

message 69: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Love the flames, Ruby!

message 70: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Oh wait... forgot to ask, why do they "last forever"?

message 71: by Angela~twistedmind~ (last edited Oct 08, 2011 10:13AM) (new)

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 538 comments Ruby, your nails are awesome. I've gotta show Chey the flamin' toes. Hoping she can copy that on mine. :) They look great.

message 72: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments Okay, I thought I'd share my wrinkly hands and current color (no name). In order to get more out of the pic I had to include the damn cat.

We interrupt this message...

Love. I prefer dark colors but I'm sick of black, and I like that little greenish hint in there.

Midnight in Moscow is one of my favorite OPI colors!

smetchie | 4034 comments p.s. my nails are always flesh colored. I never paint them because I BITE them. Nail biter. right here.

message 76: by Gertie (new)

Gertie (gertiebird) | 225 comments I really like that deep teal color! Flat colors seem to be making a comeback. That green above is pretty too - it has a tiny bit of a mottling texture in it which is interesting.

message 78: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments I saw a man a few days ago with bright green toenails. I looked to make sure it was polish, not disease. Odd choice - first to paint his toenails, second to use a garish color.

message 79: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Phil, there are several green nail polishes that glow in the dark, so maybe he was headed for a rave. Or maybe he got drunk and/or let his SO paint his toenails and/or lost a bet...

smetchie-wetchie, you know that a lot of nailbiters swear by using polish as a deterrent?

And I'm talking about everything but the color on my nails, because it is bland, blah, boooooooooring beige.

message 80: by Phil (last edited Oct 11, 2011 01:03PM) (new)

Phil | 11837 comments This guy was about 37, had a slouch and a pot-belly, a wife and two kids. And he was at McDonald's.

Probably not a rave. Maybe he lost a bet with his (~15 year old) daughter.

message 81: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments That's what I figured it was. He was wearing flip-flops. The family was in Mesquite, NV., and I don't think they were local. Maybe it's a "keep the kids busy while we're on vacation" thing.

message 82: by smetchie (new)

smetchie | 4034 comments We did that to my friend, Drew, at the beach one year. He let us paint his toenails sparkly purple! We got lost in the boonies of North Carolina on the way back and had to stop to ask for directions at some back woods service station where the only sole around was wearing overalls with nothing underneath. Drew got out of the car in his flip flops with his purple toe nails and got perfect directions. And this was years ago, before goth kids and UFC fighters were painting their toe nails. I bet that man had a great story at dinner. I should add that my friend is the size of a line-backer.

I like some of these colors in theory, but I can't pull off the neat glossy look for more than an hour or two. My fingers get dinged, banged, bumped, chipped.

I like @84 for an automobile finish.

message 85: by Jammies (new)

Jammies My fingernails are painted with a very pretty white called "Jammies' Glitzy Blizzard" which my friend JenJen created for me!

message 86: by Jammies (new)

Jammies If anyone is interested in eight glitterbomb polishes, I'm having a giveaway on my beauty blog: http://baublesandbubbles.blogspot.com...

janine | 7709 comments I'm wearing a base coat with very subtle glitters as nail polish.

message 92: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Beta, what can I say, I'm a very girly zombie. ;)

Laurin, that is a great color combo!

janine, what color are the glitters?

Gertie, if you want Diamond in the Rough, you'd better call your local Walgreens reeeeeeeeally quickly!

message 93: by Laurin (new)

Laurin (llooloo) | 1867 comments Thanks! I was looking to use MCA (it's one of my favorites), but it's really thin. My nails are all stubby, and hard to paint evenly, so I added some crackle to cover up the streaks.

message 94: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments Jammies wrote: "janine, what color are the glitters?"

They're teeny tiny silver glitters.

That's what I was going for. Usually my nails are pretty outrageous, like hot pink with black crackle or purple glitter. That's one of the great things about my job, I work from home so no one can tell me what to wear/what nail polish I can wear :)

message 97: by Jammies (new)

Jammies Prettypretty Heidi! Btw, is there a Sally Beauty Supply anywhere near you? Because I think Color Club Kiss Me Mistletoe was made for you personally.

Laurin, I work for my mom, so I have some leeway on nail colors--this week's manicure is blue/purple/fuschia gradient with black zebra stripes and blue & fuschia glitter on top.
