Read much UF? I've come across a few popcorn ones that are low on the brainpower and high in fun.

UF=Urban Fantasy. Basically fantasy set in the modern day world with some magic and monsters and such.

Stuff like The Dresden Files.

Give Monster Hunter International a shot too. It's like paramilitary urban fantasy.

It's a bit predictable, but you'll be having enough fun reading it that you won't mind. Sort of like the mindless Summer Blockbusters that Hollywood puts out.

So I've recently finished Consider Phlebas and The Summer Tree. Both fell a bit short of expectations.

Currently reading The Wandering Fire and will finish out the Fionavar Tapestry with The Darkest Road after.

Still a bunch of other BotMs to read, though...

It's a fairly dense read, not hard just very long. To be honest, at 2/3 of the way through I'm not finding it as good as I hoped (or as the reviews promised).

Finished reading A Song of Ice and Fire, now I'm reading the Brothers Karamazov, getting bogged down. As for ASOIAF that was pretty great.

ASOIAF goes by so quickly. I started reading Game of Thrones about two months ago and I'm already on A Storm of Swords now. Trying to finish book 3 and 4 before A Dance with Dragons comes out. Not sure if I'm gonna make it...

slowpoke. I read them all in like a month. It was a pretty intense month, though... mistakes were made.

A lot of stuff goes down in A Storm of Swords, Nim. You'll fly through the last half of the book.

Yeah, I re-read A Game of Thrones last month, but probably won't get to the other three until the beginning of July. I think I read them in a month or less the first time.

Detective noir in a Fantasy setting.

I enjoyed Jim Butcher's Dresden Files. How does the Garret PI Series compare?

It's about the same level of fun as Dresden.

If you were to take Dresden, strip him of magic, then set him down in a version of Middle Earth that had been run through the Nightside a couple times, you'd end up with this series.

At least, that's how it comes off so far after book 3.

I'm currently reading L.A. Noire: The Collected Stories, which can be downloaded for free and it's really fun so far. I'm also reading Buzz: The Science and Lore of Alcohol and Caffeine, which it's interesting and a fast read. I recommend them both.

went to the cottage this weekend..
read 'the fall' by Albert Camus (terrible) and 'the hunger games' by Suzanne Collins (unexpectedly great!)
made it to my breaking point in Tigana.. can't see how I'll manage to finish it.

Don't push yourself to read it, man. There are plenty of other books out there that you might actually enjoy.

Also, I still haven't bothered to read the Hunger Games. I don't want to, partly because everyone seems to rave about them.

I love The Stranger, I mean LOVE IT. I'm still going to dig through Camus' work, it was just that damn frenchman in The Fall I disliked.

I just finished reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (finally). I had heard all the hype around it, but had no idea what to expect. I enjoyed it thoroughly. It definitely was not predictable. I am planning on starting the sequel as soon as I can get to a bookstore.

For everyone who loves American Gods, they are making a movie out of it.

I just finished the third of those. I enjoyed them. According to Stieg Larsson the Swedish eat some really disgusting stuff that I've never seen on the menu at IKEA.

I devoured The Hunger Games earlier this summer, though I haven't managed to sit down with the sequels just yet. I found it really accessible and exciting--the first book I'd read in months that I simply couldn't put down. It was a little reminiscent of Battle Royale or The Long Walk, if you've read those, but had a feeling all it's own. I hope you enjoy it!

I was disappointed with Hunger Games. Because it is so popular, I was expecting something better. Anyway, I think it is good for summer reading. I plan to read Battle Royale. Friend read the manga series and claims it is very brutal (compared to movie)...

I read them all earlier this year. The first one is the strongest in the series. It totally could stand alone and is really just a great book. The second one felt like just a bridge to the third. But the sequels were still really good! I enjoyed them a lot, they were quick and interesting reads.
