Melanie♥ (meliaann) What DP books are you reading now?

I just finished up two re-reads: The Australian and After Midnight.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
Hi Melanie. You read my mind. I just finished If Winter Comes. What a flashback moment!

message 3: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) I have really been in a re-read mode over the holidays!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
I wish I did more rereading. I'm still working my way through DP's backlist. I don't own all her books, sadly!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
The Winter Soldier is one of my faves, Melanie.

message 7: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) I am listening to the audiobook version of Lord of the Desert. I am NOT loving the narrator. The Texas accent seems off and Gretchen's voice is a bit gruff. I am disappointed as I have been waiting on this for some time. At least it is from the library and didn't cost me anything.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
That's always good when you didn't pay for something that disappointed you. I haven't gotten into audiobooks because I think of a person reading the story as an obstacle to my forming a deeper relationship with the story.

message 9: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) Sometimes the narrator can make an average story amazing and on the other hand the narrator can make a wonderful book into a painful experience. Still, I'd rather listen to books than music while commuting each day!

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
I can see that. I'm a big music girl, so I have my mp3 player loaded down and I have Satellite radio in my car for my epic commute.

message 14: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) KellyJo,
Are you a member of www.paperbackswap.com? You can find all but the most hard to find titles there. I have gotten quite a few DPs from the site.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
Hi KellyJo. She is also rereleasing a constant stream of her books, but Melanie's got a good idea there with PB Swap.

I just finished reading The Maverick (Long, Tall Texans). I really liked it. Harley turned out to be a good hero. I laughed so much reading this book. It was nice to read a plain old fun book.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
I read Snow Kisses on Monday. I think it was a reread. At any rate, I enjoyed it!

message 24: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) So has anyone read the new one, Courageous? Reviews on it sound so discouraging that I am going to wait and get it from the library.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
I haven't, Melanie. I've noticed her latest books do have lower ratings in general. I guess you can't go wrong with doing a library read and picking it up for your collection later on if you enjoy it.

message 26: by Vashti (new)

Vashti | 12 comments I really want to read Courageous, but do not want to pay the HB price .I am going to wait till nook drops the price then buy.I did see some iffy reviews, but will still read it.Read THE PATIENT NURSE and enjoyed that one.

message 27: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) Vashti, I have almost cleared the wait list at my library and hope to get Courageous for the weekend.

Just finished, "Lawman". Lawman by Diana Palmer
I have read many of her other books including some of the Long, Tall Texan books so I am familiar with the same sort of characters: Female:young, naive, virginal who falls for the handsome man; Male: much older, stand-offish, arogant, cruel. With romance, caring and sex, the female character breaks down the males walls he's built up and with her caring and forgiving, softens the male character so they live happily ever after. With that said I couldn't understand how a woman who had had what happen to her as a child, and by her family be so loving and forgiving to everyone. She was suppose to be so intellegent, yet didn't know that still with one ovary she could never get pregnant? I didn't like Garon AT ALL! He was so much in self-pity for losing his wife and child that he couldn't care for anyone? He had no trouble taking advantage of Grace, seducing her and having sex with her. When he said such terrible things to her after he lead her on and then humiliated her all over town by yelling at her. What an ass he was. I saw no redeeming qualities in him either. The part where she went to his house to tell him about the murderer and he told her she was a spinster with few talents and education, I read it again because I couldn't believe what I was reading. Then I Literally through the book across the room. I was so mad, it ruined my whole day. It isn't the happily every after I liked. She should have went off with Marquez. He was a much better man than Garon. I am not turned off from her books, just had a hard time swallowing this one. I hope I wasn't too harsh. I still love her work

It wasn't what I would call "painful". I just get so engrossed in my books. I still love her books and will keep reading them. Didn't mean to go on so much about it. Sorry!I am looking foward to using my birthday gift card to read more of the Long, Tall Texan series. I love em for the romance.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
No need to be sorry. I get sucked into books as well.

Vashti, I was waiting to see what you thought and you gave me a really quick answer =) Hope to start it tomorrow!

message 42: by Vashti (new)

Vashti | 12 comments Lol,read it first thing last night, needed to read something that would take my mind off of my pet.I am afraid that she would be leaving us soon,we have had her for 10 years, very upsetting.
Anyway,I did enjoy it ,much more improvement than prior books.

message 43: by Melanie♥ (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) Our mini dachshund is almost 14 so I really feel for you. We have had him since he was a puppy. It is hard to know he will not be with us much longer.

message 44: by Vashti (new)

Vashti | 12 comments I can not seem to stop tearing up today, taking her for observation tomm at vet's.We have had her since she was 3 weeks old.Amazing how our pets are family members.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 141 comments Mod
I'm sorry your furry baby is sick, Vashti. That is so heartbreaking when they get sick. I will pray for her. I'm glad you have a good book to read to take your mind off things. DP does have a way of sucking you full into her stories.

*Hugs*

message 46: by Melanie♥ (last edited Oct 24, 2012 01:17PM) (new)

Melanie♥ (meliaann) They really are family members. My daughter is away at school and since she is off campus now she has adopted two dogs. The first from the SPCA at home that she took with her and the second was one that another student abandoned. When she found it, she could not bear to take it to a shelter. The first is a chihuahua/schnauzer mix and the abandoned puppy was a pure bred Sheltie. Looks just like a mini-Lassie =) Both are sweethearts!

message 47: by Vashti (new)
