SOLVED. YA book about a murder / drowning [s]

About 2001 I read a book about three boys who go off into the woods and only two come back. The third boy is domineering and very much the leader of the pack. The other two know what happened to him on that day but they keep quiet. I think he had an accident / drowned as I remember a scene where one of the boys goes back to a pond with a half submerged bike in it. Think at one point the boys are climbing trees. Black and white cover I think. Aimed at older children / young adults. Help!

I have found this. It was a book called Anthony Master called Finding Joe. Glad to have remembered. I will sleep better now.
