Cary (vortigern) | 344 comments Man Eaters of Kumaon by Jim Corbett. Just starting, and it is a reread. It is so good I have read it five times or more. It is about an Anglo Indian government Civil Servant tasked with hunting man eating tigers and leopards in 1920s India. But it is more than a danger filled hunting book. It describes the habits, customs, and life of people in turn of the century Indiain a facinating way.

Stephanie (s_lowe) Currently I am really into the Borgia topic since I finished Sins of the House of Borgia (which is good by the way). So now I have been reading Lucrezia Borgia: Life, Love, and Death in Renaissance Italy. So far it has been interesting even if the author tends to be a bit jumpy with her writing.

Side note: this was a library book and I found not one, but TWO notes left in the book, telling future readers to check out the Vlog Brothers' youtube channel (one of the Vlog brothers is John Green who is the author of 'Looking for Alaska') . One of the many reasons library books can be awesome! :)

Loved Tea Time. It was fun. So was the other Dirk Gently book.

I'm currently reading Sassinak of The Planet Pirates Omnibus which is moving much faster than the first of the omnibus. Unfortunately I haven't had much time to read.

Through DailyLit I'm plowing through Daddy Long Legs and it has me rolling. I don't think I could write letters this good.

message 1088: by Hayley (new)

Hayley Stewart (haybop) FINALLY finished that darn book The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes !! How it's shortlisted for a prize I don't know - and if it's a fine example of how Barnes normally writes - I'm afraid I'm not touching anymore with a 10ft barge pole.

Now to move on to The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt Hopefully a lot better - it sounds intriguing!

message 1089: by Steve (new)

Steve Anderson | 3 comments Hi all. I'm reading The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick. Written in the early 60s, it's an alternate history in which the United States lost WW2 and is a weakened land split up and co-governed by a powerful Japan and Germany.

Americans have lost their identity and follow Imperial Japanese culture in the West and Nazi ways in the East. In the book, there's an alternate history in which the US and its Allies won the war. It's blowing my mind.

That's good to hear! LOL And you're correct, the others aren't published in English yet. Sapphire Blue, the 2nd one, is supposed to be released in June 2012, and I'm not sure when the 3rd one is scheduled for release.

message 1091: by Tina ♥ Bookaholic (new)

Tina ♥ Bookaholic (martinabookaholic) Sorry to hear that. Thats a pity you have to wait for so long and I really hope they will also publish the third in english. Otherwise you'll have to learn german, because it's really worth it. :D
