He asked if I'd read the story. I said, "No. I know they have a TV series for it, but other than that I didn't know anything about it. Why?" He didn't give me a reason. Hmmmm, he's not a reader...I need to investigate this more, me thinks.
Finished
, it was good, but probably not one of my favorites. It was a lot tamer than what I normally read, and while it was entertaining with a nice little mystery, it just wasn't super-exciting. Now I'm reading a historical fantasy sort of book,
.
I'm reading
, and though it took me a little while to get into (I'm also reading a PNR and the switch between the two genres did my head in at first), I'm enjoying it. LC makes me enjoy historicals in a way I haven't for a while.

Lisa Kay wrote: "Oh, CaroB., I'm interested on your comments for both of those!"Lisa, I finished
this morning and have been trying to write a review on and off today. I kept thinking of your Exceptions to Romancelandia rules thread and how this book actually crossed a few of those items off the list for me. It was at times an uncomfortable read for me, given my fairly sheltered life, I found some aspects simultaneously heartbreaking and confronting, but it was an exceptional read in that I'll be thinking about this one for a little while I think... Very well written, with characters that you don't just like, but ache for.
Lol, and I think maybe my review will involve some cutting and pasting from this post :-)
Just saw a review for
over at Dear Author and am interested myself to see how it compares in my mind. Will probably finish it tomorrow.
LOL, CaroB.! I have done that many times myself. My interactions with my GR friends make them my ginny pigs for many of my reviews. Helps get my thoughts in order. :)
I'm working on Mercedes Lackey's fairy-tale based fantasy romance series. I read
and now I'm about halfway through the 2nd one,
, and I already know I'll be buying the rest of this series.
Here's my current reads. I'm not getting fancy with links and stuff cuz I'm supposed to be clenaing right now! LOLCurrent reads:

You've inspired to attempt to read more than one book at a time again.

Wow Kelley, how do you keep them all straight in your head? Do you ever get the stories mixed up? Do you still get the same impact from the stories, the same immersion in the books, when you've got a few going at once?
I think 2 at a time has been the most I can do, but admittedly I get easily sidetracked. Would love to know how you do it... there just seem to be so many great books, and always so little time....

Kit★ wrote: "I just started

Currently reading Sliding Home, which will bring me up to date on Kate Angell's Richmond Rogues Series (Ms. Angell is to baseball what Susan Elizabeth Phillips is to Football, Gibson is to hockey). Love this series, and it's unfortunate I'll ave to wait a year for the last in it, but Ms. Angell switched publishers (a nasty reality in this economy). I've bought
but have Married By Morning from the library and may read it first- I'm 2 series behind in my Lisa Kleypas reading, and she's always so good!
I finished Just Like Heaven, it was very good, just what I was expecting from JQ. Now I'm continuing the fairy-tale series and reading
.

All very good, however, NIE is excellent!
I have a question. I'd love your opinions on which you prefer: reading books on an e-reader, or reading paperbacks. Also, with the wide range of prices on e-books, (from Free/.99 to 7.99/9.99) is there a price point you won't exceed for an e-book? Thanks!

I think I'm in the minority, but I'll take eBooks any day. Having said that, I'm in Australia, where books are a lot more expensive. I also read quite quickly, so the ability to take a few books at a time with me throughout the day is fantastic. Especially if I'm reading a few books in the same series, where I don't want to wait too long before I begin the next in line.
I wont pay more than $10 for an ebook (about $8 US), but usually prefer to stay under the $5 mark if I can.
Hope this helps!
Laura,I read about 70% paperback and 30% e-books. Sometimes I just love the "instant gratification" and ease of buying an e-book from my home. However, I love the feel of a paperback in my hands. If I owned an e-reader instead of reading e-books on my computer, I might make this more 50-50.
I like my "buddy reads" to be e-books b/c then I can highlight important things and make notes to compose questions.
If I absolutely had to choose, I'd pick PB. I love the book in my hands. I love seeing the bookmark mark the progress (moving closer to the back cover). And I can't explain why, but I feel as if I'm more absorbed or involved in the story when I read a PB. Now, having said that, I love my e-Reader, because I love free. Also, we're looking at taking a couple of long traveling trips within the next year and I'm thrilled to have my e-Reader to take with me. It definitely will be loads easier to pack than books, and this way I don't have to try to figure out how many books to take.
Kristi, I love the feel of a PB in my hands too. I have been known to caress a beautiful book cover in a store. I love the artwork; some are works of masterful creation! Sometimes this is missing in e-books. (Some of mine just have a title.) I was taught to respect books (not bend the spine, etc.) When I hold a book in my hand, I am sure I get a sense-memory of everyone previous book I've ever held in my hand. Years from now I can see "dead-tree" books eventually becoming obsolete as those who have never held one in their hands die off.
I used to feel the same way. I love the sight/feel/smell/look/etc of a REAL book. But, living 65 miles from the nearest bookstore, my e-reader is a life saver!!!! And, as I get older, I discover there are more and more great books out there I want to read, so my goal has changed from holding/savoring a book, to reading, because I know there's another great adventure at the next download to my Kindle!
If I owned an e-reader instead of reading e-books on my computer, I might make this more 50-50.Oh, Lisa Kay, I'm betting if you owned an e-reader, this would be more 70-30. Or, in my case - 100%!
I'm definitely one for a real book, hands down, no challenge at all. I don't have an e-reader, and I'm not sure if I want one. I'm normally more of a tree-hugger, but in this case, I'm all for paper and binding. I guess an e-book would be ok for a story that was just alright, that I didn't want to keep, but when I buy a book, especially a new book instead of used (and hardcover even more especially!) I buy so I can have it in my possession forever. I don't feel that an electronic file is worth spending real money on. I mean, in a couple of years, a model of e-reader will be outdated and there will be all kinds of new ones, and what then did I spend my money for if I can't keep that story forever, to hold in my hand? What if the file isn't transferable to the new model, or y'know, some problem like that. My goal is to have a huge beautiful library room in my dream house one of these days :)
Wow, Kit★! How could I possibly forget all my hundreds of VHS tapes that can't be played on my DVD player? Great point.
I love to keep the books that just "spoke" to me. And no it doesn't have the same impact as it does when you have a file. For me, I think it's more personal. Moving around as much as we have had to do, I couldn't keep books. So now that we're finally in a last location, I can't wait to build my huge bookcases and fill them up. I've already started stacking in preparation. lol!

Lisa Kay wrote: "Wow, Kit★! How could I possibly forget all my hundreds of VHS tapes that can't be played on my DVD player? Great point."Exactly! Growing up, we had VHS tapes out the wazoo, and a couple years ago sold them all at our garage sale because none of us had a VCR anymore. I'm afraid the same's going to happen with DVDs before I'm old, they'll be replaced by Blu-Ray and/or downloading and streaming.
I took a break from The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, read Just Like Heaven, and now reading Olive Kitteridge and still listening to Moloka'i.

I just came back from B&N and I just

I forgot something. I need one of those iPhones with the GoodReads app on it.
There's a GoodReads app?! Lisa, do you know if it's only for the iPhone or is there one for Android too?
I finished reading
, which I really enjoyed. The main couple defintely weren't you typical vampire/ human pair.
Megan wrote: "There's a GoodReads app?! Lisa, do you know if it's only for the iPhone or is there one for Android too?"I know there is a new one for Android that everyone is talking about. Autumn la liseuse has it. Do you know her? She's super-smart and could/would probably help.
