Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments How are you liking it, Sandra?

message 702: by Sandra J (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 145 comments It's definitely PNR which I prefer to UF so it works for me. I like the characters, and the plot makes sense. The Big Bad actually has a reason for his actions that is awful but perfectly logical. I'm not too sure about that cover though.

message 703: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Sounds good. I'll have to move up a bit on my list. Thanks. :)

message 704: by Literary Ames (new)

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Yesterday I read Striking Sparks (PsyCop, #2.1) by Jordan Castillo Price Many Happy Returns (PsyCop, #2.2) by Jordan Castillo Price Mind Reader (PsyCop, #2.3) by Jordan Castillo Price which all focused on a side character who appeared in Criss Cross.

I accidently read the first line of Body and Soul (PsyCop, #3) by Jordan Castillo Price and I really want to continue reading but I need to read The Darkest Lie (Lords of the Underworld, #6) by Gena Showalter before the new one comes out.

message 705: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments @ Ames -- I hate guessing the villain, although I did guess the villain in #1 too.

@ Lethal -- that is good to know. I look at the book and WANT to read it, but I hate when the characters are so damned perfect.

@ Sandra -- Roarke is perfect, amazing -- and rich! #3 was the last one I "read" (I listened to the audio) in that series.

message 706: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments @ Regina: Likewise. It's a good thing I didn't actually buy this book or I would've been pissed to waste $10 on a mediocre book with an amazing cover.

Currently Reading: Glutton For Pleasure by Alisha Rai

Maybe Read: The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook

message 707: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I loved the Iron Duke. Very very strong world building, I got bored with all the political intrigue -- but despite that the world, the characters and the very hot romance carried to for me.

message 708: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I'm reading The Taste of Night (Signs of the Zodiac, #2) by Vicki Pettersson and pleasantly surprised. Hoping the story continues to be as interesting as the first 40% or so.

message 709: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments Regina wrote: "I loved the Iron Duke. Very very strong world building, I got bored with all the political intrigue -- but despite that the world, the characters and the very hot romance carried to for me."

I really enjoyed that one, too! Looking forward to the next one this fall!

message 710: by Jackie M (new)

Jackie M | 695 comments I just finished Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep which I loved and now I am moving on to On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews .

message 711: by [deleted user] (new)

I've just finished Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan . It was terrific, and a rec or a challenge book from someone on here, so thank you unknown benefactor! Can't recommend it enough.

message 712: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Jackie, if you loved Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep , Venom (Elemental Assassin, #3) by Jennifer Estep is even better, imho.

I'm really gonna read Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan soon, a lot of fans in this group.

message 713: by [deleted user] (new)

Vivian wrote: I'm really gonna read Queen of Shadows (Shadow World, #1) by Dianne Sylvan soon, a lot of fans in this group."

Yay! I'm a bit mournful that it's such a new book and we're going to have to wait for ages for the next one but ahh the anticipation..

Now reading The Sweet Scent of Blood (Spellcrackers.com, #1) by Suzanne McLeod . Not sure about it.

message 714: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Yay, another QoS fan!! :)

message 715: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Reading The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs An earlier Patricia Briggs, fantasy novel. Very good!

message 716: by Josie (last edited Mar 22, 2011 03:43AM) (new)

Josie | 1967 comments Ooo interesting, I may have to try that :)

I'm reading Lover Enshrined (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #6) by J.R. Ward which I am enjoying but not much focus on the main characters. Tbh very little of the book is about Fury and Cormia so I feel like I don't really know them properly like the others in the series, which I'm guessing is part of the reason that a lot of people feel Fury isn't one of their favourite brothers :(

message 717: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (last edited Mar 22, 2011 04:05AM) (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Josie, I read that one earlier this month, and whilst Phury isn't my fav I still gave it 4 stars. So keep going, cause you learn a lot about others.

message 718: by CyberAlmu (new)

CyberAlmu | 302 comments Just finished River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs , I'm so sad that I've finished this last book of the series and that there are more Mercy and Adam, yet...*sigh*

I can't decide what to read next. I picked up Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling, #1) by Nalini Singh but it doesn't feel like it's the right moment, so maybe I'll read bit of Sookie (#2) for a change.

message 719: by [deleted user] (new)

Gave up on Spellcrackers.com. Might revisit when I run out of other things to read. Have started Ravenous (The Dark Forgotten, #1) by Sharon Ashwood . Was very UF at the start, and halfway through started to feel like a PNR. Good so far.

message 720: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Moss, that series "The Dark Forgotten" is a dark PNR. It has dark UF elements, but each book has a HEA. I've really enjoyed that series, hope you do too!

message 721: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments Currently Reading: The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook (Because I love me some Meljean Brook) & All Jacked Up (Rough Riders, #8) by Lorelei James (Because I love me some naked cowboys who like to give it to you dirty & rough). At least in my fantasies. Cowboys rarely look this hot in RL, what with the chewing tobacco & walking in cow shit all day.

message 722: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments LOL. Don't you go ruining my fantasies Lethal!

message 723: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Seriously! Eewww! LOL! I saw the cover and thought it was Myla Jackson's Bound series. Honor Bound (Bound and Tied, #1) by Myla Jackson Aw, shucks, ma'am, like this...? >;)

message 724: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Have you seen those shows about real people living for a week or a month back in historical times, like the Regency period or Colonial times?

Well this book is a behind the scenes look at one of those reality shows The Corset Diaries by Katie MacAlister as only Katie MacAlister can. I was actually laughing at one point.

message 725: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I just finished Death, The Vamp and His Brother by Lexxie Couper . It was a fun, spicy read. Has anyone read her book Savage Retribution by Lexxie Couper ? Might have to grab that one too.

Not sure which to read next.

No, I haven't. But, being from VA we have Colonial Williamsburg where everyone dresses up and the town is all Colonialized. LOL!

I've seen that book at the library. Haven't read it though. Not surprised that Katie got ya LOL though. She has a way of doing that. Gotta love her for it.

PS: Lemme guess - yellow cover for challenges? ;)

message 727: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Nope, that's next month. LOL.

Contemporary Romance book shelf - RRRC for March Challenge.

message 728: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Ah. That's right. Apr challenges on the brain.

message 729: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments @ Sandra -- I am so glad to hear the Hob's Bargain is good!! I loved her other fantasy series.

@ Lethal -- how are you liking Iron Duke? I really enjoyed that one.

message 730: by [deleted user] (last edited Mar 24, 2011 02:04PM) (new)

Just finished The Iron Duke (Iron Seas, #1) by Meljean Brook . A book made of yay! How have I skipped over Meljean in my meanderings through the lusty world of PNR? A situation that must be immediately rectified.

ETA:
@Steph - yep it was pretty good. The cover is pure disaster but I got over that. :)

message 731: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments It is an AMAZING book.

Regina wrote: "It is an AMAZING book."

Yeah I must admit I haven't exposed myself to much steampunk, although it's quite an interesting genre. But this book might inspire me to...

message 733: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I thought the world was incredible, I was so impressed and literally blown away. And the romance was so beautifully built up -- nice and slowly. I thought the yummy scenes were -- quite yummy. ;)

message 734: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments You all made me want to read "The Iron Duke" now. I'll have to bump it up on my TBR list.

I just finished Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, #5) by Kresley Cole and loved it and started on Visions of Heat (Psy-Changeling, #2) by Nalini Singh .

Glad you enjoyed it! I haven't read much steampunk either, but have that one TBR.

Literary Ames (amyorames) | 1854 comments Kerstin wrote: "I just finished Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, #5) by Kresley Cole and loved it"

OMG, that book has been sitting next to my bed for the past few weeks. That means I have to read it NOW, right? I keep putting it off because the heroine is a ghost -how can that end happily?

I finished Body & Soul (PsyCop) by Jordan Castillo Price . I want to read the next one now but my once favourite Psycop is currently in my bad books. Not sure what to read next.

message 737: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Ames what do you mean - the one you are reading now is bad?

I just finished it & I thought it was awesomesauce. I read my 1st Steampunk novel (Soulless) this month & enjoyed it enough to where I figured, why not give my girl Brook a try? Amazing. It took me awhile to warm up to Rhys but I was in love with Mina & the Steampunk world Brook created from the beginning. Can't wait for Heart of Steel!

message 739: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Lethal did you read the prequel in the anthology?Burning Up? I enjoyed that one alot too. How does Soulless compare to the Iron Duke.

I loved Rhys right away. He is one of my favorite heroes.

LethalLovely~I'm Breaking Out. Last Chance to Lose wrote: "It took me awhile to warm up to Rhys but I was in love with Mina & the Steampunk world Brook created from the beginning."

yep yep, Mina rocked and the world building is wicked awesome. And it took me a while with Rhys too...I don't know, something about his alpha-maleness was not quite right to begin with. But I grew to love him and now he's on my Christmas list of things I want in my stocking.

Did anyone else think the Horde was aliens to begin with? I was completely on the wrong track for the first ten pages or so.

message 741: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 1360 comments @ Regina: No. I have "Burning Up" on my TBR shelf but I've heard so many mixed opinions about some of the novellas in it that I'm waiting a bit before buying it. Maybe Brook will release her novella in ebook like Patricia Briggs did with Alpha & Omega: A Companion Novella to Cry Wolf.

@ Moss: My problem with Rhys was his personality. He was very cold & heartless in the beginning, only wanting to bone Mina. But he eventually redeemed himself in my eyes. I'm looking forward to Yasmeen & Fox's story. I also hope Scarsdale gets his own HEA because I ♥ that fool!

LMAO! No, I didn't think the Horde were aliens but the way they acted, they might as well be. That was really messed what they did to the people of England.

message 742: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I read Brook's novella in Burning Up and was intrigued, so I got The Iron Duke a couple of weeks ago but haven't got to it yet. Looks like I'll have to see what I can do. Bugger that I've already sorted the April Challenges.

message 743: by Kerstin (new)

Kerstin | 862 comments @Ames: I wasn't quite convinced about that coupling either before I read the book. I mean a ghost and an impotent vampire? The story kept me wondering for quite a while how this was going to work, but work it did in the end. So yes, I think you should give the book a chance :)

message 744: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments LOL "ghost and an impotent vampire?" Now I'm intrigued.

I'm reading Kitty Takes a Holiday (Kitty Norville, #3) by Carrie Vaughn (about 20% into it) and liking it so far.

message 745: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I only read the brooks story in burning up - no others. I checked it out from the library. I loved the Brooks story. It is meaty in terms of character development and it is a sweet romance.

message 746: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments Well, I actually got Burning Up for the Psy Changeling story by Nalini Singh, so MBs story was just a bonus.

message 747: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments I've got that one TBR soon. Got it for the same reason (Singh's story), but now looking forward to Meljean's too. :)

message 748: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments I think for me I wasn't up to the number for the PsyChangleing story. Phili Free has Burning Up as an ebook -- so it is easy to go back and get it.

message 749: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments The Psy Changeling story is Ria & Emmett & Ria is mentioned in the first book, she works for Lucas. So it was like a prequel story.

message 750: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) | 2883 comments Oh thanks!
