I need some good writing after what I just read. Hahahaha!!!

Katherine wrote: I'm about 65% through, and it's KILLING me. Not a fan at all. Right now I'm trying to rush through and finish it so I can start something else!! LOL!"

*Sad Face* Maybe it's me because I just love less-known books like that. I liked the concept of it too, because it was just so different. I'm bummed you didn't like it! But I agree with Bethany, Unwind is amazing!!!

Oh, and Bethany, Eona is so good! It was so much better than Eon! Like so, so much better! And you only had to wait a year?! So unfair! I bought the hardcover of Eon a couple months after it came out in like May of 09! Two years! (And we think Cassandra Clare takes forever when she busts out two books a year!)

message 404: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Yeah, I'm enjoying it so far. Yesterday was my birthday...the big 2-6! So my friends tore me from my books for the day...lol. The only trouble with Eona is that it's been a while since I read Eon. At first, i couldn't remember half of the characters...it's slowly coming back. Like, I don't really remember who Sethon is??? And Vida and Solly? Totally drawing blanks...

message 405: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I just finished Hard Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires, #4) by Chloe Neill . I'm not sure it classifies as YA (in fact I'm sure it doesn't). It kind of ticked me off and I'm still dwelling on it. I loved the series, but that book was shocking.

Next, I swear I'm going to read Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth . I keep saying it but then get side tracked.

message 406: by starryeyedjen (new)

starryeyedjen I just finished Die for Me (Revenants, #1) by Amy Plum last night. I really enjoyed it...I've been reading a lot of dystopians lately, so it was nice to read something different.

I was having trouble picking out my next read, and my hubby saw me staring at the bookshelf, so I made him pick the next book. He said Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion looked good based on the cover, so that's what I'm starting today. I've been hearing really good things about it.

READ. IT! :D

I just finished Catching Fire (The Hunger Games, #2) by Suzanne Collins and left wishing I had the Mockingjay in my hands right now lol. Next on my shelf is I Am Number Four (Lorien Legacies, #1) by Pittacus Lore

message 408: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rmenard) Shari. I have been trying to get through
I Am Number Fourfor about six months now and I just can't do it. I can't get past the writing. Started Divergentthis week and am loving it so far. Also having a tough time getting interested in Across the Universe. What's the consensus? Is it worth finishing?

I loved Across the Universe. I think the further you get in the book the more it picks up. I actually really can't wait for the sequel. I had some trouble with the writing style at first and the fact that it flips between Elder and Amy.

message 410: by Bethany (last edited May 17, 2011 09:33AM) (new)

Bethany Rachel- I Am #4 was not the greatest book. I liked it, but I can admit that it was just an ok read. Across the Universe is one of my favorites! The back and forth chapters didn't bother me, I actually really like it because then I unsterstand the characters better. I would definitely give it some more time, the story does pick up.

Divergent is amazing!!! Glad you're liking it!

message 411: by Julie (new)

Julie I just finished Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins and I loved it. It was completely different that what I was expecting. I was hesitant to put it on my list at first because I thought maybe it was a little too young but I'm so glad I read it and I can't wait to get to Demonglass.

message 412: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved Across the Universe Rachel! I hope it gets better for you!

Julie, I'm so glad you liked Hex Hall. Rachel Hawkins is one of the most hilarious authors I've ever read. I think there was something on every single page that I giggled at lol. I'd even go as far as saying that I liked the sequel, Demonglass better, so you should definitely pick it up soon!

message 413: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 58 comments I finished Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman - LOVED it. What an interesting story line. I will admit that I didn't think I would like it, and ended up loving it.

Now, because I feel like an idiot that I haven't read them yet, I change the order of my "next five" and start:

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare

message 414: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rmenard) Regarding Across the UniverseI think what is bothering me most about it is not the switching back and forth. I've seen that before in Shiver but as of now, I'm not in love with either MC and I feel as if the author tossed things in randomly to make the story work.

But since everyone here is giving it a thumbs up and everyone here has such excellent taste in books, I'll stick with it!

message 415: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I also just finished Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins . It was pretty good, i'm excited to read the next one. Still working my way thru Eona The Last Dragoneye (Eon, #2) by Alison Goodman .

Katherine, :D i'm excited for you. You'll love that series.

I completely agree on I am Number 4. I read the whole thing and it wasn't worth my time. Waste of the paper it was printed on.

I finished it a few days ago... gave it a ***... it was good, just not epic and I like epic lol. The idea was a good one but there was so much that COULD have been written. The characters were strong and likeable enough to have gone much farther than the story allowed.

I'm in the midst of Max (Maximum Ride, #5) by James Patterson . Picked up a $6.99 copy at Chapters based on a Chapters staff insisting it was great (and I figured wth, it's 7 bucks). I'm having a tough time getting into it. Not a lot of meat to bite into. I'm 1/2 way though.

I have Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3) by Suzanne Collins waiting for me on my nightstand but I'm making myself finish Maximum Ride.

Rachel (rmenard) Angie wrote: I completely agree on I Am Number Four. I read the whole thing and it wasn't worth my time. Waste of the paper it was printed on...

I saw the movie and liked it. That might be good enough for me. In the book, the MC seems young and whiny. Four was a bit more angsty and dangerous in the movie. There is one God-awful paragraph in it too, that's something like "I went to the door. I opened the door. I closed the door." I wanted to scream.

message 419: by Renata (new)

Renata Brink Sword of Truth Series is great. You'll enjoy all the books.

message 420: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) Shari - The Max series was an OK series. I think I rated the first book a 3.5 (or 4 because you know, no half stars). Its a decent series to read, but I stopped on book 4 and haven't read any further.

I'm currently reading Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse, #11) by Charlaine Harris . I'm about half way through it.

I agree the Max series was OK. I have caught up on the series but really I am only reading them as they come out just to know what happens and because its hard to leave a series sitting for me. Same here about book 4, once I got the feeling that the author was preaching it went down hill.

Just started reading Wake (Dream Catcher, #1) by Lisa McMann . Enjoying it so far. Wife read the Tryll series and loved it so thats probably what I'll be onto next.

message 422: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) Andrew wrote: "Same here about book 4, once I got the feeling that the author was preaching it went down hill.

Exactly. There was a point where I felt he stoped writing the story and started using the books to preach about issues and I lost interest. I'm told I should stick with it but Max and Fang aren't that good but Angel picks up.

message 423: by Bethany (last edited May 19, 2011 06:36PM) (new)

Bethany I felt like Angel picked up. But,i love the series. I agree that not all the books are great, but overall i love it.

Andrew..i just read the Trylle books. They were great! Hope you enjoy them too.

I'm almost done with Eona. I'm loving it...also read the first couple chapters of Entwined. I'm not sure what to think about it yet, but it definitely has me curious.

message 424: by [deleted user] (new)

I loved the MR books up until the end of Max. I hated Fang and Angel...they felt like he's just dragging the story out. He claims the next book is gonna be the last, so I'll read it just because it's Maximum Ride, but I don't have the passion for it that I used to. It is now a meh series for me lol :)

message 425: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm getting ready to start Ship Breaker (Ship Breaker, #1) by Paolo Bacigalupi . I just finished Infinity (Chronicles of Nick, #1) by Sherrilyn Kenyon and it was pretty good but confusing at times. It seemed like alot of random things happened without any explanation. And I have no idea where the zombies and all the supernatural beings came from because they just appeared one day.

message 426: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I'm reading Gone (Gone, #1) by Michael Grant . I am about 70% done with it and I'm not sure what my opinion is yet. After this I'm going to read the next books in the series so I hope I end up liking it.

message 427: by Julie (new)

Julie Almost done with Ship Breaker (Ship Breaker, #1) by Paolo Bacigalupi and I've loved it so far! Here's hoping the ending is good :)

message 428: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I just finished Hollowland (The Hollows, #1) by Amanda Hocking . It was really good. I'm so happy...finally, a zombie book that I like!

message 429: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 58 comments I LOVED HOLLOWLAND!

message 430: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Finally finished Eona The Last Dragoneye (Eon, #2) by Alison Goodman . It was really good. And I totally picked up Wither (Chemical Garden, #1) by Lauren DeStefano this morning and could not put down. I did not expect to like it, but I LOVED it! It was sooo good.

Next up is Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta

message 431: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 58 comments Finished City of Bones. Eh. LOL! Trying to decide what to read next. I thought I would be drooling for #2 of the Mortal Instruments... but... Eh. LOL!

message 435: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm getting ready to start Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , I was finally able to pick it up from the library yesterday.

message 436: by [deleted user] (last edited May 23, 2011 05:58AM) (new)

Bethany, I'm surprised it took you so long to burn through all those other Melina Marchetta books since you loved Finnikin so much. Glad you're liking them though, I might have to try them soon.

Um, Katherine and Julie, you two are crazy girls! Katherine, read the second one like ASAP! You too Julie if you haven't yet!

Julie, I'm glad you were able to get it! Yay! You'll love it.

Ok, I just finished The Ylem (The Ylem Trilogy, #1) by Tatiana Vila . It was pretty good. There were some things that were annoying about it though. I don't remember who mentioned it in the Divergent thread, but The Ylem didn't use contractions either. I didn't notice it in Divergent but I notice things like that now and I couldn't believe how annoying it was! Also, the ending was left open for a sequel which is annoying because now I feel like I need to know! Lame!

Julie ~ If you haven't read any of the Dark Hunter novels, the Chronicles of Nick will be confusing - it's a look back at how Nick's story could have been.

message 438: by Jen (new)

Jen (baynej) | 151 comments I finished Everlost (Skinjacker, #1) by Neal Shusterman and Everwild (Skinjacker, #2) by Neal Shusterman this weekend. Starting Everfound (Skinjacker, #3) by Neal Shusterman today - these aren't Unwind, but they're pretty good. Definitely written for a younger audience, but they get better as they go on.

I'd recommend the Dark Hunters - one of my favorite sets of books ever!

Jen, I just picked up Everwild and Everfound!! I'm super excited. It is definitely aimed at a younger audience, but it's still really good. And the end of Everlost left me dying for the next book. I can't wait to read em!

message 442: by Adela (new)

Adela Clancy finished Defiance (Strange Angels, #4) by Lilith Saintcrow a couple of days ago
Now on to Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver It's awesome! I started this morning and read over half throughout the schoolday lol :) I didn't even know it was part of a series until I checked, which is totally amazing! ;P

message 443: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Delirium was really good. I'm super excited for the next book.

So, forgive my american ignorance, but what is a wog? I'm reading Melina Marchetta and I'm guessing it's a derogitory term for Italians??? Is that right? I know we've gotta have some Aussies in this group that can answer my question.

message 444: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Contractions are when you say don't, can't, wouldn't, instead of saying do not, can not, would not. I think some people find it irritating and unrealistic when the characters don't speak with contractions. It doesn't usually bother me, but I definitely notice when an author does it.

You guys are making me want to read The Ylem. But, based on your responses to the ending I think I'll put it off until the sequel is out. That way the cliffhanger ending won't be so bothersome :D

message 445: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I finished Looking for Alibrandi today. Can I just say how much I love Melina Marchetta. She is such a great writer. This book was great...like all her other books. Now I just have to finish The Piper's Son and On the Jellicoe Road.

message 446: by Julie (new)

Julie I'm halfway through Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth , I'm really liking it :)

message 447: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I'm trying to read Hunger (Gone, #2) by Michael Grant and I am struggling to get through it. I had a hard time with Gone but this book is seriously causing me to stall picking up the book. I'm just not connecting with it which is wierd because it is very well rated. I might have to put the series down.

message 448: by [deleted user] (new)

Adela, how was Defiance? I bought that one in paperback the day it came out but haven't gotten around to reading it yet. I love that series though! I need to read it like ASAP!

Chima, ha that was me complaining about the contractions! I don't know why, but that was my biggest complaint about that book. It's weird because I usually don't notice things like that, but it bothered me whenever she said "I am" instead of "I'm". People just don't talk like that lol. Oh well though, I'm still really excited for the second one. The ending of The Ylem really frustrated me too!!

message 449: by Adela (new)

Adela Clancy @Amy
Defiance was really good :) I wrote a small review, I can't wait for the next book! It's totally worth the read, Dru is one of my favorite characters to read about :) She's kind of a bit like me

message 450: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Draper | 58 comments Finished Unearthly by Cynthia Hand - REALLY liked it! I think needed a good dose of decently written paranormal romance. All this dystopia was hurting my head. LOL!!

Starting Awaken by Katie Kacvinsky tomorrow. :D
