I really need to read Bruiser! I love me some Neal Shusterman! *Sigh* LOVE Perfect Chemistry! It's amazing!

message 202: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Yeah, I didn't realize he was the unwind & everlost author. I haven't read either of those but after having read Bruiser I will definitely check out the others.

message 203: by [deleted user] (new)

You should definitely read Unwind, like ASAP!

message 204: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I loved Perfect Chemistry (haven't read the 2nd & 3rd books yet though). I just finished her other series Return to Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #2) by Simone Elkeles Leaving Paradise (Leaving Paradise, #1) by Simone Elkeles . That series was a great read (and was also a great step away from Paranormal/Dystopian/Apocalyptic type books.

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

I love that series too! I don't read very much contemporary (I actually think her books are the only contemporary I've read), but they are sooo good! I can't get enough, and I seriously cannot wait until the third book in the Perfect Chemistry series comes out!

message 206: by Laura (new)

Laura | 59 comments So I read the first Strange Angels novel a while ago and even though I liked it, it didn't WOW! me. Who else has read these books and how did you like them?

message 207: by [deleted user] (new)

I've read them! I like them, but like you, they aren't like, The Hunger Games or Mortal Instruments. I'm waiting for the fourth one right now, Defiance!

message 208: by lézengő reader (new)

lézengő reader (kergezerge) Just got my copy of The Dead-Tossed Waves, I'm so excited, but first have to finish a few other books I have from the library.

message 209: by Julie (last edited Apr 02, 2011 01:54PM) (new)

Julie S. Still reading Deeper (Tunnels, #2) by Roderick Gordon Deeper and Infernal Devices (The Hungry City Chronicles, #3) by Philip Reeve Infernal Devices. I'm almost done with Infernal Devices, which means that I'm almost done with The Hungry City Chronicles since there's just one more book.

message 210: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I finished perfect chemistry yesterday...I loved it. I really enjoy the contemporary stuff. So long as it's realistic. I've read some pretty good ones, but lots of times they are sad...like The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson , Change of Heart by Shari Maurer , Wrecked by E.R. Frank . All of these were really good, but very sad..so I suppose it just depends on whether or not you mind a sob story.

I also just started Impossible...on pg 115 and I really like it, especially because i'm still totally guessing at what the heck is going on...

message 211: by Laura (new)

Laura | 59 comments Oh, I must admit - I love a good sob story!

I liked that book but I thought there were way too many words wasted on describing their meals and with everything going crazy, more could've happened to them.

message 213: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Williams (mrslaurenwilliams) I just finished Stolen by Lucy Christopher and Kindred by Tammar Stein. Neither of them were distopian or apocalyptic, but they were YA novels. I gave Kindred only 2 stars, but Stolen.. wow. I gave it 5 stars!! Now I'm starting on The Silent Boy by Lois Lowry and The Knife of Never Letting Go.

message 214: by [deleted user] (new)

I've heard really good things about Stolen, and I've been meaning to give it a try! I might just have to now!

message 215: by Julie (new)

Julie I just got Stolen from the library, I'm excited about it!

message 216: by Laura (new)

Laura | 59 comments Stolen was fantastic.

message 217: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Well, I'm am thrilled to say that I am reading.....wait for it.....

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare YYYAAAAAYYYYY! Yes, the wait is finally over and I am so glad because I've been going through some major Jace and Clary withdrawals, but I'm better now. I'm getting my fix and life is GOOD!

City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare

I'm reading it too! I downloaded it yesterday and can't put it down. There are some super-steamy make-out scenes too.

One of my favorites!! I hope you enjoy it. It's an awesome book!

message 221: by [deleted user] (new)

Also one of my favs! Enjoy! :)

message 222: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) Just finished City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare . I couldn't put it down once I started it.

Angie (angiebayne) Laura wrote: "I just started reading Dark Life by Kat Falls. Has anyone read it yet?"

I read Dark Life and really enjoyed it.

Angie (angiebayne) Amanda wrote: "Amy, I completely agree. I finished it last night. I'm reading books at a crazy speed right now. Mary was just hard to relate too. I thought I would understand her and then she would change course...."

It's funny that you say Mary was hard to relate to (which I agree), but I actually found Gabry from Dead Tossed Waves even harder to relate too. I love both of these books because of the world (who doesn't love zombies??), but the two MCs are really annoying at times.

message 225: by Jen (new)

Jen (baynej) | 151 comments Just finished Hate List by Jennifer Brown and After by Amy Efaw - both were really excellent.

Grace by Elizabeth Scott is next up

message 226: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebayne) I just finished Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card . I thought it was great. Really interesting story.

Bethany Angie wrote: "I just finished Pathfinder by Orson Scott Card. I thought it was great. Really interesting story."

Ooo...that sounds good! I'll have to check it out.

Laura & Angie...Dark Life is one of my favorite books. I love the whole concept of the underwater world. It's a great book! I'm glad you guys liked it :)

Bethany Amanda wrote: "Just finished City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments, #4) by Cassandra Clare. I couldn't put it down once I started it."

I know what you mean!!! I'm visiting my dad so I'm having to pace myself so that I'm not being totally rude and ignoring him...lol. If I were at home, I would have finished it the first day. It is super good so far. And honestly, it's the mortal instruments....what's not to like???

message 229: by [deleted user] (new)

Bethany...hehe I finished the day after. Stayed home from school and everything! It's amazing!

Angie, I have that one in hardcover on my shelf. I haven't read it yet, but it sounds really good! I've been meaning to get to it for forever!

Oh, and I want to read Dark Life soooo badly! They just don't have it available for the Nook yet, which is what I'm waiting for!

I can't wait for the sequel to Dark Life...Rip Tide. Should be excellent.

message 231: by Bethany (new)

Bethany What?!?!?!?! You just made my year Angie! I didn't know she was doing a sequel....I always hoped but, I didn't dare to dream. I am so excited. Okay, I have to go....got a book to look up!!! YAY!

Pays to be a children's librarian...you known when all the good stuff is coming out and you get to buy it and read it first! :)

I thought Gabry could be really annoying, I just related to her better than Mary. I really couldn't stand Mary (at all). I am thinking the writer struggles with the MC because neither character really pulled it off very well. I haven't read the 3rd one yet, getting to it on my list, but I'm hoping the MC is easier to relate to or at least, not quite as selfish and crazy.

I've read it. It is really hard to get into, but once you do you won't be able to stop. (:

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh wow, that was a while ago! You're right! I liked it! But I haven't read any of the others in the series. Have you read them? Are they worth it?

message 236: by Laura (new)

Laura | 59 comments I enjoyed Dark Life, but I think I was hoping for something a little grittier. I'll certainly read the sequel though.

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time! I keep reading slower and slower cause I don't want it to end!

Yes, I think most of us who've read it are MAJOR Finnikin fans! That is my favorite book of all time...the one I would take to the deserted island. I totally know what you mean about reading it slowly, but it doesn't even matter. One time I finished that book and the went right back to the beginning and started all over again. It's my happy book. And I could pee my pants at the fact that it is possibly going to become a trilogy.
