message 903: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Just finished Tangled Tides (The Sea Monster Memoirs, #1) by Karen Amanda Hooper and it was awesome. I have been waiting for a good mermaid book to come along and I was very skeptical about this one. But it completely surprised me!

You all have to read this! Especially if you like mermaids. Or sirens. Or selkies. Great. Book.

Teresa Myers (teresamyers) I'm reading Touch of Power (Healer, #1) by Maria V. Snyder and loving it so far. Characterwise it's pretty close to Poison Study but the story is different and even somewhat PA. But it's more from Maria and I've loved every one of her books so I'm looking forward to where it goes from here.

Update: It's done and was just as lovely as all her other books but just a heads up, there are some zombies if you don't like that kind of thing. They aren't that bad but they are there.

Bethany Started Camille by Tess Oliver

message 907: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) Bethany wrote: "Started Camille by Tess Oliver"

I thought that was a decent book. I just finished
The Dark and Hollow Places (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #3) by Carrie Ryan and I actually liked the MC which is new for that series.

I'm thinking of starting Touch of Power (Healer, #1) by Maria V. Snyder .

message 908: by Jen (new)

Jen (baynej) | 151 comments Have any of you read Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue ? I read her book, "Room" and really enjoyed it, but this one appears to be a completely different animal. Just wondering if it's worth continuing?

message 909: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebayne) I just finished The Replacement by Brenna Yovanoff . It was pretty good. I liked that it was a stand alone book and not a series and I thought it was pretty original. Or as original as a book reworking old tales can be.

message 910: by Sandra "Jeanz" (new)

Sandra "Jeanz" | 49 comments About half way through This is Not Forgivenessits an ARC I was sent before Christmas.....its a bit slow...hard going...but sensing it will get better and that its slow etc as it sets the scene so still sticking with it.

message 911: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Started Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi . I'm not too far in yet, but it's definitely interesting. I'm waiting for the twist in the plot that I know has to be coming. I have a good feeling that this is gonna be one of those books that blows you away by the end.

message 912: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (amonika) I just started Delirium by Lauren Oliver . So far, I'm super interested.

message 913: by Tamara (new)

Tamara (bookruckus) I'm reading Angels of the Night Discovery (Angels of the Night #1) by Paula Kennedy and Stolen Away by Alyxandra Harvey

Angels of the night is pretty good so far, but I'm having a hard time getting into Stolen away.

message 914: by Sam (new)

Sam K I'm not sure what to read now. I just finished Jillicoe Road.

message 915: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Just finished Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi and IT WAS AWESOME! I didn't expect it to go in the direction that it did, but I was so pleasantly surprised. This was a great book!

I'll be honest, I know several people who LOVE this book. I don't think I'm one of them. I'm struggling to stay engaged enough with the story to read. I'll continue it, but I hope it gets better soon.

message 918: by Scarlett (new)

Scarlett (killhailmary) | 6 comments I just finished Legend! It was good. I am to read 13 Reasons Why, Delirium, and City of Ashes

message 919: by Ash (last edited Jan 01, 2012 12:27PM) (new)

Ash (departed_dearly) Force reading Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger . It's okay if I just read it for a while, but then I procrastinate when I should be reading.

message 920: by Andrea (new)

Andrea | 27 comments Just finished Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee . It was so awesome! Only $0.99 ebook. A great heroine and lots of gritty PA stuff you might not expect since the premise deals with angels.

message 921: by Devon (new)

Devon (booksandbeyond28) just started Eon Dragoneye Reborn (Eon, #1) by Alison Goodman on bout pg 47 and really liking it so far. =)

message 922: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I'm re-reading Across the Universe (Across the Universe, #1) by Beth Revis . I figured I'd refresh my memory since A Million Suns (Across the Universe, #2) by Beth Revis comes out next week :)

Also just finished Everblue (Mer Tales, #1) by Brenda Pandos , which was very good for a cheap ebook. And I love mermaids, so I enjoyed it.

message 923: by Monique (new)

Monique Ammi (pickymiss) | 8 comments Just finished the third book in the Last Survivors' trilogy by Susan Beth Pfeffer. Sad and lots of interesting family dynamics at play. It will make you think. This World We Live In

Next is The Dark and Hollow Places I read Forest of Hands and Teeth a long time ago and hadn't looked for any of the sequels. Just finished The Dead-Tossed Waves earlier this week and figured out why I hadn't thought of Forest of Hands and Teeth as a zombie novel. I read it quite a while ago. They called them "the unconsecrated" and didn't use "zombie"... guess I could have put 2 and 2 together, but I hate math.

On to the last in the trilogy :(
The Well of Shades (The Bridei Chronicles, #3) by Juliet Marillier

Bethany - you should check out the Talisman Series by the author of Everblue. IT is about vampires and I really enjoyed it.

I just finished reading The Sweet Gum Tree by Katherine Allred and Slumber (The Fade, #1) by Samantha Young . Slumber was free on Kindle and it was a really really good read. I am excited for the next book to come out.

I'm getting ready to start reading In Dreams (The Dream Series, #1) by J. Sterling .

message 929: by Julie (new)

Julie i finished Trapped by Michael Northrop last night and started Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George

message 930: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebayne) I just finished Froi of the Exiles (Lumatere Chronicles, #2) by Melina Marchetta . I loved it, but hated that it wasn't a stand alone book. I can't wait a year for the next one.

message 931: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Angie wrote: "I just finished Froi of the Exiles (Lumatere Chronicles, #2) by Melina Marchetta. I loved it, but hated that it wasn't a stand alone book. I can't wait a year for the next one."

Awesome! Finnikin is my all time favorite book. I was so excited when I learned it was to be a trilogy. I loved Froi. My expectations were super high and it did not disappoint me. But, I agree, it's gonna be really hard to wait for Quintana of Charyn. But, it's one of those series that is worth the wait, in my opinion :)

message 932: by Julie (new)

Julie I just finished Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi for the monthly read (I highly recommend it) and I started Eve (Eve, #1) by Anna Carey this morning. I'm also slowly working on Entwined by Heather Dixon on my phone.

message 933: by Bethany (last edited Jan 21, 2012 09:51AM) (new)

Bethany Julie,I really liked Eve. It's kind of an un-original storyline, but I still enjoyed it. Entwined was actually really good, but it took me a while to really get into it. But stick with it, it gets better :)

I just got A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness and Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger from the library.

Still working on Castle in the Air (Castle, #2) by Diana Wynne Jones

message 934: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiebayne) I just finished Eona The Last Dragoneye (Eon, #2) by Alison Goodman and loved it. I am starting Dust & Decay by Jonathan Maberry today and can't wait. Not sure why I let that one sit on my shelf for so long.

Wasn't Eona awesome?! Such a good book.

I just finished Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger and it was pretty much amazing. Really funny, good characters, great steamy romance. I stayed up until 3:45 finishing because I could not put it down. I highly recommend this book. It's not YA so it's for a bit of a more mature audience, but it's great and if you like werewolves, vampires and steampunk, you will enjoy this book immensely!

message 936: by Ami (new)

Ami E. Bowen (skayda) | 18 comments I really haven't been reading much dystopian lately. I am reading Drink, Slay, Love by Sarah Beth Durst and afterwards I plan to start Eight Keys by Suzanne LaFleur . Maybe after them I will get back into the world of dystopian reads. ^_^

I liked it. Not as much as Rot & Ruin but it was still really good.

message 939: by Bethany (new)

Bethany I'm about half way through A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness and I really like it so far. It is a pretty long book and it drags a bit sometimes. It is by no means an action-packed thriller. But, I find it incredibly interesting.

message 940: by Bethany (new)

Bethany So, I saw a couple people review this book and talk about how amazing it is. I checked out the page for the book and the reviews are like this... 5stars, 5stars, 5stars, 4stars, 5stars, 5stars, 5stars...you get the idea. It has a really interesting premise and it was only 99 cents!! for the ebook. I think it is that price for both kindle and nook. So, you all should go check it out.

It is Angelfall by Susan Ee

Yes. Read it. Do it! I enjoyed the book immensely, despite a few faults. Enjoy! :D

message 942: by Julie (new)

Julie I finished Eve (Eve, #1) by Anna Carey the other day, I liked it quite a bit more than I was thinking I would. Bethany, I wanted to cry when Benny and Silas were running after Eve telling her they loved her :( I guess I should've put that in "spoiler alert" but it doesn't really give away anything.

I started The Asylum (The Vampire Diaries Stefan's Diaries, #5) by L.J. Smith yesterday.

I know, right. I think I did cry!! Wasn't that awful?! I'm glad you liked the book. I actually really enjoyed it when I read it. After a little time and reflection, I realized it was a pretty typical dystopian. There weren't really any new themes, it was like everything we've seen before with little alterations here and there. But I definitely have a habit of picking books apart once I come down from the initial high, lol. But, I know I was really happy with it when I finished, and it had that horrible cliffhanger of an ending, so I am actually really looking forward to the next book.

message 944: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (thecovercontessa) I'm reading Opal Fire (A Stacy Justice Mystery #1) by Barbra Annino and The Princess Brideright now. I just finished Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth on Tuesday (after starting it on Monday!). I have Delirium (Delirium, #1) by Lauren Oliver on the table by the couch and need to get cracking on that! After that I will move onto Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer and Legend (Legend, #1) by Marie Lu .

message 945: by Kaitlyn (new)

Kaitlyn | 8 comments I'm currently reading Ashes (Ashes Trilogy, #1) by Ilsa J. Bick and it's wonderful. Really well written, with great characters and an interesting plot. And lots of suspense which is causing me no end of problems (1) sleeping at night and (2) feeding myself appropriately because "just one more page" never seems to end.

Enjoy the Maze Runner! It was a great read. I think it was one of the first really creepy post-apocalyptic books I read and it freaked me right out.

message 947: by Julie (new)

Julie I started Drought by Pam Bachorz last night and it's um, strange so far.

message 948: by Bethany (new)

Bethany Julie (formerly the girl with the orange flowers) wrote: "I started Drought by Pam Bachorz last night and it's um, strange so far."

I heard that one wasn't very good, you'll have to let me know.

I'm reading The Ylem (The Ylem Trilogy, #1) by Tatiana Vila and it reminds me of twilight, A LOT! But, even with the supernatural and teen romance cliches, I'm still enjoying it.

message 949: by Amanda (last edited Jan 30, 2012 05:39AM) (new)

Amanda (amonika) Bethany - I thought the same thing about The Ylem. I liked it, just had a lot of YA cliches in it.

I just finished Survival, YA Paranormal Romance (Book 1 of The Guardians of Vesturon) by A.M. Hargrove last night. I finished it in one sitting and couldn't walk away (which meant I was up way too late). I have several other books lined up to read, but I raced to download the 2nd book and just started it. It is Resurrection, a YA Paranormal Romance (Book 2 of The Guardians of Vesturon) by A.M. Hargrove which is what I'm reading right now.

Haha, I'm reading survival too! I didn't finish it in one sitting, but I did read most of it today. I really like the concept, but I think the writing is poor. I've come across a lot of incorrect grammar. The sentences don't flow. The conversations are choppy. And I don't like the way the author overlaps each storyline. This book could have been really great, but its just been kinda mediocre for me.
