Emma Blue (litlover) | 13 comments I was in Chapters the other day and was making a mental note of all the books I want to get from the library. I forgot about one. I think Nobody's was in the title, and it's about a girl who reads these letters and they are connected to a murder. Oh! I just remembered, they said that American Tragedy was based on the actual story. I hope this helps! I would really appreciate it if you guys could solve this.

Laura (laurahogan) | 72 comments I think you're talking about A Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly. Pretty good book.

Emma Blue (litlover) | 13 comments Thank you! I wonder why I thought it had Nobody's in the title. I was so off. Thanks!

Krista the Krazy Kataloguer (kristathekrazykataloguer) | 104 comments Emma, A Northern Light is an excellent book. I read it when it first came out because I live near where the real murder took place. If you're interested in reading about the story that Theodore Dreiser based An American Tragedy on, I can highly recommend Craig Brandon's Murder in the Adirondacks: an American Tragedy Revisited (North Country Books, 1986) and Joseph Brownell's Adirondack Tragedy: the Gillette Murder Case of 1906 (Heart of the Lakes Pub., 1986). On the college library web site where I work I also have a list of other books, videos, and web sites connected with the case, if you're interested.
