Answer Machine (New & Improved?)- I'm Feeling All Knowing/Kevin: The Great and Powerful Oz/NOW TEMPORARILY THE "ASK CLARK" THREAD! >> Wisconsin Wedgies, Tag teamed back to Kevin/Squatting Shatner vs. Sally's birds
how did you get so smart? where are all the baseball loving guys who also actually know how to read hiding in my part of the world?
Kevin "El Liso Grande" wrote: "the sound you hear when the bat hits the ball."NO METAL BATS! College ball SUCKS because of metal bats.

Or just cool it before you pour it in the pitcher, Sal. ;)

I went to a game once and this woman is there with her husband/boyfriend/bum and she sits down and actually started reading the sports page before the game started. Then when the game started she put in little earbuds to (my guess) listen to the radio broadcast. She was like the perfect woman for three hours.
michael - we once we at my youngest sons high school baseball game and my daughter brought a new guy she was dating. in the later innings we were in the field with runners on first and third with one out. my daughter says "this pitcher is gassed. he's leaving the ball up to much. we need a 6-4-3 and get out of this inning". the bf looks puzzled and says "what's a 6-4-3?" so my daughter leans behind him, looks at me, rolls her eyes and gives the thumb across the throat sign. and with that....he was gone

I always listen to the game when at the game! Just one earbud, so I can still converse. I just like to hear the call. :)
It's fun sometimes to hear the call and then help the announcer out. "Hey, dinkus, that was a slider. Sheesh."
i (cubs fans cover your ears) will not miss ron santo's commentary. more than once every season i said "it sounds like this guy has never even seen a baseball game before". i once heard ron say "i think that was a strike" to which pat hughes replied "yeah ron, he swung and missed and now the catcher is throwing it back"

Lobstergirl wrote: "A 6-4-3 is definitely a more exciting way to end an inning than a can of corn."You've never seen Delmon Young play left field?! He makes things very exciting out there, only in a bad way!
janice - to answer your question it seems that the interest level in my question answering has waned.
Kevin "El Liso Grande" wrote: "janice - to answer your question it seems that the interest level in my question answering has waned."But why?
michael - the constant problem of his keyboard rr sticking caused him to spend too much time backspacing, thus becoming both frustrating and unproductive
LG - well, one downside is that he has 14 letters in his name. as we all know 14 is the atomic number of silicone. when you add that to his last name pronounced as an anglo would you get the name of a famous technology region that rhymes with teddy beara which is another word for a baby bear meaning cub. everyone is aware that the chicago cubs have had long history of losing and all of this means that his election would be a harbinger of an economic draught for the city of chicago. man that was easy! another downside is he probably will be really annoying flaunting that honorary degree from National Louis University in everyones faces
upside - i sound sexy as hell saying his name

Kevin, your all-knowingness is surpassed only by your wit and charm. What a guy!Under what circumstances, if any, is it better to seek revenge than to forgive?
In Shrek part two when Shrek and donkey drink the Happily Ever After potion. Shrek and Fiona transform into humans. Donkey is now a Stallion. What does his wife Dragon turn into??
Why is it I am stuck having to pick the rock hard boogers because there's no way to blow them out?(I am quite sexy today, aren't I?)

thanks scout. i'll take that!
You give good answers, you answer every question, and you give us a laugh. You're appreciated. Is Dylan's poetry worthy of the Nobel Prize in Literature?
Will Brandon Webb be able to plug the hole in the Ranger's rotation left by the absence of Cliff Lee and get them back to the World Series?
not sure about plugging the gaping hole left by lee as we are not even sure he can pitch enough to even begin to make a diff to TEX. one start in the last 2 seasons? but i think nolan ryan knows enough about pitching to risk a change on webb. lots has changed for the rangers. their ownership style gives them extra juice that most teams don't have. other teams in AL have gotten stronger thoughnext?
If a sperm is swimming in a westerly direction inside one, traveling at a rate of 3mm/hour, and one is traveling east at a rate of 60 mph, when will the sperm reach its destination?
this experiment was tried albeit using a much higher speed of "one" during the so called "mile high" tests. findings show that the sperm will always reach destination at the same interval because of a little known theory known as "sperminal velocity", which in mathematical equation form looks like this: 8-- ~ &>coincidentally, this same experiment performed on a merry-go-round discovered, while exhilarating, the sperm never reaching the destination due to concentric angular velocity. that and projectile vomiting that sorta killed the moment.

the game itself. 9 innings. each team getting 27 outs ( i know baseball people, bear with me here). it's fair. no clocks. no time limit. no halves or quarters. 3 outs per inning. 9 innings per game. it is never over until the final out is made. down by 10 with 2 outs in the 9th? still possible.
history. the game has not really changed that much in the entire history of the game. look at some of the oldest stadiums, (ie: see wrigley and fenway) baseball was played the same way in the same place decades ago. the legendary names from the past are still revered today.
family. the pace of the game lends itself to families. slow moving? sure. but you can lean over and talk to your kid or the guy in front of you. the pace is such you can follow along and keep a scorecard if you want. it is relaxing while still having exciting moments.
dreams. i would venture to say that more kids throughout history have put on a glove and grabbed a ball (or imaginary ball) and dreamed of being in the baseball big leagues than any other sport. you can throw the ball up on the garage roof and catch it when it flies off while keeping a running commentary on the game. sandlot baseball is still the purest form. no fancy gear. no special field. just a place to play (even in the street) and enough guys to pitch and hit. ( see: ghost runner on first, right field closed ) when you look at MLB players they still look like avg guys for the most part ( see: john kruk ) it still looks like every kid has a chance to make it even if he is not especially tall, fast or huge. and little boy baseball players grow up to be softball players because it is the only way we can still play and dream of the big leagues.
what is it about baseball? besides hot dogs, popcorn and take me out to the ballgame? it's the smell of the game. the sound you hear when the bat hits the ball. the summer afternoons sitting in the stands with the sun on your face and your team on the field. it's not really knowing or understanding the game but just soaking up the experience (with time for someone to gently explain things as they happen). people like football. they like basketball. baseball, is a love.
Baseball? It's just a game - as simple as a ball and a bat. Yet, as complex as the American spirit it symbolizes. It's a sport, business - and sometimes even religion. ~Ernie Harwell
