Vikram Kapur | 5 comments I like the choice of Kafka's The Trial. It is a wonderful book and also more accessible than Kafka's other works.

One book I would like to suggest for the future , in case it has not been read already, is Aunt Maria and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa who won the Nobel Prize two years ago. A world away from the magical realism of Gabriel Garica Marquez, it is a different kind of Latin American novel. Comic and also coming of age in a way.

Shuchismita C | 2 comments How about starting book review groups? The group moderator announces a time bound book review system wherein members can nominate books by self or others for review, along with their Goodreads link. The number of books can be limited to something between five and ten - decided on first come, first served.

Each book can be assigned for review two or three fellow members, allocated a fixed time, say three weeks per book.
The reviewers will be expected to read the book and post honest reviews within the time frame.

The reviews can be genre specific - like poetry, thriller, literary fiction, romance etc.

This is a good way to promote Indian authors. The books will be read and reviews available to future readers.

I agree with Shuchismita. It is a good idea.

A good idea. But no one is much active here... dont think anyone will make an effort. If you all feel like it I can start a folder and see...
But I wont be able to participate as I have given up reading ARC due to lack of time.

Robin P | 210 comments Hello. I am a new member of this group. I joined a few days back and since then I have been desperately trying to find the "Buddy Read" corner or any corner where you can ask people if they are interested in reading a book with you but I couldn't find one. Does this group have that kind of operation?

I will be really obliged if the moderator or anyone else can help me with this problem.

Hi,

I am an author and an active member of Goodreads.

I am trying my best to reach out to genuine readers for which I wish to give out 10 free copies (maybe more depending on the response) of our novel DareDreamers - A Start-up of Superheroes. I have co- written this novel with my son. I would also like to give away 5 copies of The Quest of the Sparrows.

If possible I would love to start a book discussion around the book involving Indian Superheroes. However I do not wish to compromise the purity of your group with blatant self promotion.

Kindly advice as to how I can proceed, while being well within the rules of your group.

The links of both the books are below

https://www.amazon.in/Quest-Sparrows-...

https://www.amazon.in/Daredreamers-St...

The Quest of the Sparrows has received critical acclaim and has been around for 8 years now. The second book is a recent one (launched in August 2018).

My mobile number is 9810334041 and email id is kartikravinirmal@gmail.com

I look forward to your reply,

Warm regards,
Ravie

I posted it here to suggest other authors to offer their e-books for free in this period. It is not a promotion.

Please see this post which inspires us

But anyway I am deleting the post.

Thank you

You may block the members or report the members to Goodreads . As moderator we have limited capacity to take action against members , other than to ban them if they misbehave within the group

you can send a reply to any of the group emails that one of the mods sent ....
we will look into it.

Sumit Ghosh (summitkg) | 4 comments Some city-based threads would be useful where people could get to know readers with similar interests from the same city, and that could later on turn into IRL reading groups. We could start with the major Indian cities and then see how idea works out.

Upanshu Malhotra | 24 comments Does this group have any virtual meetups?
By virtual meetups, I mean on voice calls (if video is too much).
I feel discussing BoTM or other monthy activities on a call would be too fun and soo much quicker.

message 424: by Ahtims (new)

Ahtims (embeddedinbooks) | 47117 comments Mod
So far no Virtual meets, except for a few close friends from this group having had virtual meets a couple of times .
Guess virtual meet is difficult to organize if huge numbers participate

But if possible, can we give it a try?

Agreed

Palash (naikon) | 19 comments Is it possible to remove/hide folders which are not relevant(reading progress, challenges, group reads of previous years such as 2012-20) anymore from group home page ? These folders are cluttering up the homepage.

On it.

message 437: by Rags (new)

Rags | 805 comments I would suggest to hide it. As people might have put some effort creating their thread. So deleting it might not be the right choice. However, mods decision is final.

I usually use the F3 button to find a thread in which I'm interested. I add a keyword and voilΓ ... I find what I was looking for in a couple of seconds.

message 440: by dely (last edited Jan 07, 2022 10:39AM) (new)

dely | 5485 comments You also can hide folders by yourself using the black small arrow next to the thread title, on the left.

Here you can see a screenshot: https://ibb.co/hX0rDNX
(I can't upload it on GR)

But please don't remove our personal threads with our updates. I have there 10 years in books.

C
H
A
I
T
R
A

Reading seven books in a month? Or writing down all the months in one go and then read them throughout the year?

I did this here two years ago with English months. I can make challenges but the hard part is sticking with them till the end.

message 448: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I pick and choose my months depending on my other groups BOTM. We could start with a quarter and see how it works out. the longer months sre really stressful (:

Bookworm (have loads of catching up to do) | 1001 comments Hi @Mods,
I have an idea for a challenge, like how about we vote to read books which are polarizing (as per general consensus). That way, it'll be a good discussion - why it was 1/2 star for some and 4/5 stars for others.
For example: we can nominate 10 and finalize maybe 5 of them (through voting) to read throughout the year.
Since the quantity of the books will be less, it would be easier to stick to the challenge.
