Veronica (veronicay) Kathy wrote: "The Hand That First Held Mine by Maggie O'Farrell"

I finished this and loved it. Not quite as good as The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, but I galloped through it in 2 days and didn't want it to end! She is such a good writer, and her characters are real people.

Aww, I hope you get around to reading it soon! =) I know what you mean, I seem to take forever getting around to reading books that were given to me as gifts (even though they're books I've been eyeing for for ages!) *thud*

message 1572: by Sarah (last edited Jun 13, 2010 12:15PM) (new)

Sarah Elizabeth Li,

I finished Ann Radcliffe's The Romance of the Forest recently and I liked it. How was A Sicilian Romance?

message 1573: by galya (new)

galya Started Atlas Shrugged. Like it a lot so far. It's a somewhat fast read, but because the print is so tiny, and it's over 1000 pages, you don't get too far fast. =)

message 1574: by Beth A. (new)

Beth A. (bethalm) Galya, I'm reading Atlas Shrugged for a book club in September. We're all a bit nervous because it's so long. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying it.

message 1575: by Renée (new)

Renée (annabethblue) I'm reading The Angel's Game, The Commoner, and Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World...and also Moby-Dick, again (my favorite book). :)

message 1576: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Gayla and Beth, I read "Atlas Shrugged" as well. I want to read it again in the larger paperback form since the mass market paperback is bad on the eyes. My husband listened to it on audio and we both recommend it highly. I want to read "Fountainhead" as well.

Lianne (eclecticreading) Sarah wrote: "Li,

I thought it was a pretty thrilling read, kept me guessing as to how things were going to turn out in the end =)

I am currently reading Christopher Reich's Rules of Deception and I just started reading Arturo Perez-Reverte's The Fencing Master.

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) This morning I am gonna read Long Way Home - Michael Morpurgo.

message 1581: by galya (new)

galya Beth and Tanya.
I'm only about 1/5 through, but the story is very captivating. The way Rand writes is astonishing. The story just flows so naturally. She manages to work the story of the past into the present so bealutifully, that you aren't left out of any detail. (that excludes the mysteries of the story)
I think I'm reading the mass paper back, the print is so tiny! What scares me isn't the size, although it is somewhat intimidating, but that I won't be able to fully comprehend the moral, the philosophy of the book. I'm not very good at interpretation. If you tell me "oh, this is what it is", I can agree because I see it, but just can't word it. Ehh, I wish I was better at interpretation.

message 1582: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) So now I've gone back to Dark Blood - Stuart MacBride.

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Kat wrote: "I started Cutting for Stone this morning."

I loved that book!

message 1594: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Right now I'm concentrating on Every Last One by Anna Quindlen. It's a "Most Wanted" selection from the library, which means I can only have it for one week. At first I thought it was a litle too wordy and told too much "backstory" but it's very engaging and it's all coming together.

message 1595: by Fiona (Titch) (new)

Fiona (Titch) Hunt (titch) Now I will read Crime Stories - David Belbin, Alan Durant, Gillian Philip, Anne Rooney.

message 1596: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) I'm currently reading Wilkie Collins's The Moonstone. It's all right, though I am a bit unsure as to the point of the Moonstone's hold on everything, lol.

message 1597: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) A lot of my GR friends have The Moontone listed as "to read." Have you read The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins? I've heard some good things about it.

message 1598: by Beth (new)

Beth Knight (zazaknittycat) Right now I'm reading Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson. It's a very good YA book about slavery during the Revolutionary war.

message 1599: by Wendy T (new)

Wendy T I'm reading Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman and listening to the audio book Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah.

message 1600: by Lainey (new)

Lainey | 3 comments I thought Woman in White a far more riveting read than The Moonstone
