I personally thought it was overwritten....If I had to read any more pages about her being in a cave I was going to rip my hair out.....I read this right after reading Breaking Dawn (which I hated!).....I may have just had a sour taste in my mouth...IDK
i heard Breaking dawn wasn't good. I just finished Twilight it's good but I liked the host better.
I loved the Twighlight saga and I tought I would love this book. The description reminded me of Dean Koontz stories, which is one of my favorite authors. But I couldn't finished it. I read two thirds of the book before putting it down, it gave me a headache. I couldn't stand the dialogues with the third person in the head of the protagonist. It will be interesting to see what she comes up with next
I really enjoyed this book. I don't think her writing skills are all that great, but I LOVE her stories. Great imagination. It took about 100 pages for me to be really familiar with the internal dialogue, but once I got it, I thought it was very clever.
I've been struggling with this book for two weeks and am only one chapter 21. I've set it aside and have two books in between. I started reading it again last night and still don't think I can continue. Where does this book get better? am I close to something major happening?
Yeah, once you get used to what is going on with the whole two people in one thing....I thought the book was brilliant! In fact, I've been talking about this book a lot lately and its making me want to read it again!
I was about at page 150 and exasperated with this book. Several people encouraged me to continue, and shortly afterwards it picked up and I loved it. There is a major change in the book at that point.
I really enjoyed the Host but was sourly disappointed in the Twilight book. I think The Host is good story that was entertaining. I liked it much better then Twilight.
Twilight was too much lovey dovey stuff!

Is there anywhere in the book that something really takes off? I just at the part where she has been given a room, and has told her stories, and appears that Jamie is getting closer to her while Jeb is away. I feel something big is going to happen and don't want to give up on this book, but I'm strugging to stay focus on this story. Now on the other hand I loved the Twilight series. Different strokes for Different folks, that what makes talking about books so great.

Wendy by the end you don't want to put it down. Keep going.
i couldn't say that i loved the book so much... but i find it interesting than the twilight series.... at first, i thought that i would not be able to finish the host because i felt bored with the pace, but the last 1/3 part was interesting enough to allow me to read until the last page... haha... =p

i agree! i really hate the cave parts... and the very detailed description of something/someone inside the said cave.
Well I finished The Host, and really struggled to get it done. I really did not enjoy this book, but feel good that I read all 619 pages and felt it would never end. :(
so it seems that majority of us were tempted to put the book down before even finishing it... haha...congratulations to us, who persuaded to read until page 619!
honestly, struggling to read the book was a great challenge on my part... =p
Ummm... I did too. I really enjoyed it once I was able to et into the groove of the narrative. I am greatly looking forward to the next installment.
I read the Twilight series and then the Host. I thought the Host was a better story overall. It was a little difficult to get into to it with the two people as one. I thought it was interesting how the story developed as you got used to the voices of the characters. I agree that she's not the best author out there, but she does have a good hook that keeps you reading her stuff. I hope she does more like the Host.
Lavada wrote: "I hope she does more like the Host."Hopefully she can find a happy medium between the two. Less melodramatic than Twilight, but faster paced than The Host.

agree!
Wendy how is the reading going?
I absolutley loved this book! After reading the Twilight books, I wanted to read every thing by Stephaine and even read The Hunger Games because she recommended it. I can NOT wait until the Seeker comes out. I had no idea she was doing a sequel to the Host! Very exciting!
I agree about her books. It's not her style I like, but her stories. They are terrific. What an imagination. If you haven't read Hunger Games, Terra, do! It is so, so good.
Hi Kandice - I read Hunger Games.. GREAT book, I am so stoked for the second one to come out, have it on pre-order! :-)
Terra wrote: "Hi Kandice - I read Hunger Games.. GREAT book, I am so stoked for the second one to come out, have it on pre-order! :-)"me too! hehe.
Allison wrote: "me too! hehe."I might just read the Hunger Games one more time before it comes out, I know I have probably forgotten bits and pieces. it's been a while.
I gave mine away, but I read it recently, so hopefully wont forget anything too integral to the plot. I can't wait!!!
Allison wrote: "I just read it earlier this month. I put it off a bit cause I knew it was first in a trilogy"It's a trilogy??!! That's awesome news!! I had no idea!
I haven't read hungry games. Dang another TBR to add!
Lavada wrote I read the Twilight series and then the Host. I thought the Host was a better story overall. It was a little difficult to get into to it with the two people as one.I have only read the first book of Twilight so far, right now I am reading The Host. After reading this one, Twilight seems so simple. I wonder if she didn't dumb it down a bit because it was supposed to be a book for teens. I am planning on reading the rest of the series, does it get more complex?

You can definitely tell the Twilight series was written for teens. She's not a fabulous writer, but she does have good ideas. I enjoyed reading the Twilight series, but liked The Host much better. Although The Host was a little difficult to get into until you figured out the two voices of the characters, and the ending was a little confusing, I had to re-read to capture what was happening. She's not John Steinbeck, but she's entertaining!

I don't think the series gets mor complex, but it's certainly entertaining. In my opinion anyway. I love the second and thrid better than the first and last though. But overall, I think it was a good read. Hope you enjoy it.
I do agree that The Host was a far better book than the Twilight Series, and The Hunger Games even better.

I hope that there is another book. It ended as though their could be. this was a quick read and hard to put down.
