message 102: by Sapphirewine (new)

Sapphirewine Hi, I'm new and a sci-fi and fantasy reader. Also a chronic re-reader of series I love. Kim Harrison, Tanya Huff, Patricia Briggs, Charlaine Harris and Richelle Mead are some of my favourite authors. PNR, UF have become two of my favourite genres/sub-genres. :)

message 105: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (manda999) Helllooooo!!
I'm Amanda and a great lover of all things paranormal, supernatural and fantastic! I am a librarian by trade and currently work in a private girls school library so, lucky for me, there are plenty of books to borrow of the paranormal persuasion!

I am a big fan of Patricia Briggs and am hanging out to give Kim Harrison a read. I also love Mary Janice Davidson, JK Rowling, & Rosemary Clement-Moore. If anyone knows of similar authors to Patricia Briggs, I'd love some suggestions.

Cheers!

Have you tried Ilona Andrews yet? She is fantastic.

message 107: by Shawna (new)

Shawna Barnett (shawnarbarnettphd) | 3 comments Hello everyone,
I'm not really new here but I havent been very active in the last year here...so I thought I would re introduce myself. My name is Shawna Hill and I am an author on here as well as an avid reader. I love PNR romance. I picked up my first one at the age of 16, I believe, it was Jude Deveraux's, A Knight in Shining Armor, and it was on! I have been hooked on PNR ever since. I like other sub genres, but PNR is my total escape!

Nice to meet you all...

Vicki | 18 comments Hello everyone. I realized that I have belonged to the group for over a month now and I really have not introduced myself.

My name is Vicki Knisely, I am a wife, mother, sister, daughter, librarian at the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence.

I began to enjoy reading later in my life. I was on bed rest with my second son and developed the love of books and other worlds at that time. I could easily spend all my time in other worlds, though I am pretty sure that would severely hinder the other roles I play in my life.

I enjoy Historical fiction, Fantasy, PNR and UF. Some of my favorites are Outlander, The Lord of the Rings, Memoirs of a Geisha, The Mercedes Thompson Series, the Kate Daniels Series, and The Hunger Games Trilogy. (Just to name a few)

Some of my favorite authors are Diana Gabaldon, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, Rachel Vincent and the list goes on and on and on.

Thanks for having me and I am excited to get to know you and learn what you are reading and have found as favorites!

message 115: by Jen (new)

Jen O (Undeadgirl121) | 4 comments So, Hi!

My name is Jennifer and these introductions make me feel like I'm at an AA meeting.

Authors I'm madly in love with are: Kelley Armstrong, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs, Dennis Sharpe, Simon R. Green, Lilith Saintcrow, Kim Harrison, J.R. Ward, and Charlaine Harris.

I like things that go bump in the night, mostly things with fangs. I drink coffee and wine as though I'd die without them, and I smoke far more than I know is wise.

Anything else I should say?

message 125: by Pat (last edited Jun 20, 2011 06:26PM) (new)

Pat Patterson | 3 comments Sorry to interrupt, but what are AOM, BOM and BDB? I guess IAD is Immortals After Dark which I love. Other series I've read are spelled out here. But I have no idea what AOM, BOM and BDB mean.

I'm an avid PNR reader but I'm new to the community (thrilled to be here too!) so I don't know the acronyms. I'm sure I'd have 2 cents to add to the conversation if I knew what it was about :p

message 126: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments AOM = Author of the Month
BOM = Book of the Month

These are both features of the group that happen every month. In fact the polls just were put up to vote for July's Author and Book of the month.

BDB = Black Dagger Brotherhood series by JR Ward (at least I think so!)

Not sure where the BDB reference is floating about in this group, but always feel free to ask if you're not sure what something means :)

Any other questions feel free to post them here.

About about my PNR history;

I started loving the Paranormal world from a young age after watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer it got me very intrigued with Vampires but my real love for PNR started after reading Twilight (yes I know) but then that opened up a whole new world of reading.

Some of my favourite authors (most are YA authors) - Richelle Mead, Jeaniene Frost, Cassandra Clare, Lili St. Crow, Melissa De La Cruz, Alyxandra Harvey, Becaa Fitzpatrick..yeah...keeps going for a bit, but they are my ultimate faves...oh and JK Rowling! (I don't know, does HP fall in the Paranormal genre?)

message 135: by Jess (new)

Jess | 3721 comments Welcome to the group Collette!! I'm not sure about the Rowling question.. I think it might be YA fantasy.

message 145: by Karen (new)

Karen Duvall (chalice) | 4 comments I joined Good Reads a couple of months, but to be honest i got stuck when trying to "add my books." I love urban fantasy and have a huge TBR stack. I'm really behind in my reading. I'm writing more than i'm reading, but I'm trying to get back into the swing now that i'm between books. I look forward to some great conversations here. :)

message 146: by Leah (new)

Leah (uncorkedthoughts) This is by far my favorite genre. There is nothing like taking a step out of reality and losing yourself entirely in a different world with lifelike and lovable characters. My favourites being Kelley Armstrong and J R Ward. I would love any suggestions of other PR/UF authors which are worth a read. I find that, as much as I love the genre, it's very hard to sift through some of the rubbish which somehow manages to get published... lol :)

message 147: by Kim (new)

Kim | 1 comments Hi, I'm Kim. I started searching for some more good books to read and found Goodreads. I love some of the books that this group has on the bookshelf and can't wait to start reading the ones that I haven't read yet. I don't think I'll ever be without a good book again. :)
