Anjali Hi all,
I'm new to Goodreads & to this group.

I am an avid reader of urban fantasy and PNR. My favourite authors are Kelley Armstrong, J.R Ward, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Patricia Briggs, Lara Adrian, Gena Showalter, Larissa Ione, Connie Suttle & R.K Ryals to name just a few.

When I am not working I am reading. I try to read a book a day time permitting. I look forward to getting some great recommendations and getting to know more members in the group. :)

I missed a couple of people but thought I would say hi to Anjali. I'm new myself. And I read a lot, even though writing and working is taking up a lot of my time.

I love Patricia Briggs, even though recognized only a couple of those writers you list, but I don't mind reading new stuff, :)

J.R Ward is by far my favorite author! But I also love Jeanine frost, Lara Adrian, Larissa ione, and many many more!

message 757: by Stacy (new)

Stacy Poole | 2 comments I’ve read scifi and fantasy for years, but I also had a secret love for a good romance. I was so excited a few years ago to find pnr! I was quickly hooked and can’t get enough. I love JR Ward, Gena Showalter, Patricia Briggs and so many others. I’ve discovered so many great authors and series through GR and I can’t wait to find more through this group :)

message 758: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Welcome Stacy! Sounds exactly like me. LOL. Scifi/fantasy/romance. And I do like a HEA.

message 759: by April (new)

April (dwndrgn) | 4 comments I'm April. I'm much more of a UF fan than PNR but I'll read just about anything. Most of my favorite UF authors are already listed in the group description but in addition to those I like:
Seanan McGuire
M.L. Brennan
Kat Richardson
Kelly McCollough
Ben Aaronovich
Maria E. Schneider
Aimee Love
Jeanette Cotrell
Anna Elliott
Benedict Jacka

I like HEA and I LOVE humor - when it is done well. I also read mystery, fantasy, scifi, steampunk...just about anything!

I have never heard of Jeanette Cotrell I will have to look her up.
Happy Reading

April (dwndrgn) | 4 comments Hi Dawn! She's an indie author and her book Unicorn on Speed Dial is great. The cover leaves quite a bit to be desired and the title is a bit awkward but the story is loads of UF fun.

Sarah Brownlee (sarah_spitfire) | 5 comments Hello all!

I'm a writer and reader from London who enjoys paranormal romance and fantasy stories. My novel 'How the Wolf Lost Her Heart' is a YA Paranormal Romance that might appeal to people who might be curious to know what London is like 200 years into the future (not a pretty place, I have to say!) I've stuck the details in the self promotion folder for anyone interested in checking it out. I'm also a freelance writer and dogwalker - and I love sashimi! Looking forward to getting to know you all.:)

message 766: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Brownlee (sarah_spitfire) | 5 comments Hi Sandra, thanks for the welcome!

Hehehe! I have two dogs at the moment and fortunately I don't walk them at the same time (one of them really doesn't like other dogs - particularly females!) I once walked an Irish Wolfhound and a Chihuahua at the same time though. Judging by the looks we got, it was a highly unusual sight!

Sarah Brownlee (sarah_spitfire) | 5 comments Dawn - that picture isn't too far from the reality, lol! Only differences being I had them on the lead and the Chihuahua is brown. But yes - little and large! :D

message 773: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 6 comments My favorite author? I don't know that I have one, but my favorite book is Carson McCuller's "The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter". Saying that, I should state that I will read anything....any genre, as long as the story line is a good, solid one. I don't like books full of minutiae (details that have no import to the story). Authors today seem to be writing way too many, annoying details into their story lines, i.e. the man wore a dark gray suit, with a silver thread...blah, blah. I don't care. It is not important to know it, in order to paint the picture and develop the story. I find it extremely annoying. I've never written anything, but I realize it must be difficult trying to please your agent, publisher, and still remain true to the story you have to tell. I just wish authors would stop including nonsensical details, that do not enhance the story. Many times, when this happens, as I am reading, I just stop reading the book all together. It happens a lot these days, and I don't know why. I inhale books :)

message 774: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Welcome Kathy! I'm with you, I skip all those annoying details and if it gets too bad I stop reading as well.

message 775: by Fawn (new)

Fawn (FawnCal) | 4 comments Hello! I'm Fawn. I love loads of different authors. Stephen King, Laurel K. Hamilton, Blake Crouch, S. N. Graves, Patricia Briggs, Bentley Little, J. L. Bryan...

The list is very long. I am an English student, recently accepted to an MFA program and planning to apply for more. I have always been a reader, and I love finding new authors. Looking forward to seeing what ya'll are reading!

Veronica Rosa (veronicadelrosa) Hi, I'm Veronica and a professed addict of PNR and UR. I discovered these wonderful books about 5 years ago and haven't looked back. I've read so many authors and so many series that I'm always on the lookout for the next one. :)

Now I'm off to browse through the group and the different topics.

message 779: by Sandra, Need more time to Read!! (new)

Sandra | 4734 comments Welcome Veronica! I'm sure you'll find something new :)

message 780: by Amy (new)

Amy Hi. I'm Amy & I'm new to goodreads. I have a pretty eclectic taste when it comes to books. I just love reading! :) Mostly I'm into horror/mystery type of stuff. I'm an avid Stephen King fan. :) However, I like Nicholas Sparks also. I recently read a book on my kindle app that was free, the 1st in the Deadly Beauties series by C.M. Owen. I *loved* it & cant wait to read the next two.

I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for other paranormal romance type books I should check out. :) I usually dont care much for regular romance type stories because they're usually predictable (Sparks is ok because his stuff isnt always as predictable). I think the paranormal romance doesnt have that problem, so I think I'll enjoy this genre. :)
Thanks!

message 781: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Hi Amy
Welcome to the group. There are a lot of great PNR books out there to get you started you should check out our AOM Nalini Singh is an awesome pnr author. Then there is Molly Harper, Kresley Cole, Christine Warren, Jennifer Ashley, Dana Marie Bell and the list goes on and on.
There is also a section called Paranormal Writers and there is a list of authors.
Happy Reading!!

message 782: by Beth (last edited Oct 24, 2014 07:45AM) (new)

Beth Chilton (beth_chilton) | 10 comments I just discovered this book group, and browsing through the What Are You Reading discussion has given me a whole bunch of books to add to my Amazon wish list :) Thank you guys!

I like Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs and Kelley Armstrong particularly. On The Edge: On the Edge (The Edge, #1) by Ilona Andrews is one of my favourite books, partly because of the unusual setting. I also love some of Kelley Armstrong's heroes because they're more realistic and individual, and not just the predictable cardboard cut-out brooding alpha male that so many romance novels like to throw at the poor heroine.

Amy wrote: "I think the paranormal romance doesnt have that problem, so I think I'll enjoy this genre"
To be honest, I think PNR suffers from this as much as any other genre, as it does have its worn out clichés. However, there are some really good books out there, and unlike with books in a normal world setting, the only limit is the author's imagination.

message 783: by Dawn, Desperately seeking new worlds (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 4058 comments Welcome Beth
So glad we have lengthened your wish list :-)

I just finished A Modern Witch and I'm 3 books away from finishing my Good Reads reading challenge of 50 books this year! Im excited to get to know everyone and to share and learn about new books and authors!
