Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) still reading
A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness i'm about 233 pages into it and I'm loving it... I can't wait to be done with my homework and housework and Trueblood to be over with so I can read some more of it.

message 353: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'm reading The Confessions of Catherine de Medici The Confessions of Catherine de Medici by C.W. Gortner , Sizzling Sixteen (Stephanie Plum, #16) by Janet Evanovich Sizzling Sixteen, Voodoo River Voodoo River (Elvis Cole, #5) by Robert Crais and The Union Quilters An Elm Creek Quilts Novel by Jennifer Chiaverini The Union Quilters: An Elm Creek Quilts Novel.

I'm enjoying the Medici-- I recently read Jeanne kalogridis' book on the same subject and it's interesting to see how the two authors emphasize different events from the same life.

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I finished Enslave Me Sweetly (Alien Huntress, #2) by Gena Showalter and now reading Bite Me If You Can (Argeneau, #6) by Lynsay Sands

Eleanor Roberts (ellyrose31) | 1 comments Reading Kings of Colorado A Novel by David E. Hilton right now - loving it!!! Stand By Me meets Holes.

message 356: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) since Bite Me If You Can (Argeneau, #6) by Lynsay Sands i've read The Summoning (Darkest Powers, #1) by Kelley Armstrong and now reading Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews

message 357: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Just finished reading Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley. It was amazing.
Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley

message 358: by Salem (new)

Salem Reading After the Fire A True Story of Friendship and Survival by Robin Gaby Fisher , The Vinyl Princess by Yvonne Prinz , Northern Lights by Nora Roberts , and Can You Keep a Secret? by Sophie Kinsella .

After the fire is really emotional and it's hard to read a lot at once, but I'm liking it. The Vinyl princess is an easy read, but I'm not fully into it yet. Northern Lights is huge (over 500 pages), but it's an easy read. I've never read a Nora Roberts book before, but someone gave it to me, so I'm trying it. Can you keep a secret is really similar to the shopoholic books, but it's a quick read, too.

message 359: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) ok I finally finished Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, #1) by Ilona Andrews then whipped right through Magic Burns (Kate Daniels, #2) by Ilona Andrews and now on page 90 of Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Just finished Gone with the Windsors Gone with the Windsors by Laurie Graham . Good book but my god, Wallis Warfield Simpson was annoying and selfish. I read a bio of her about 25 years ago and thought the same thing then.

message 363: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I'm reading:
Anna Dressed in Blood by Kendare Blake - it's really good- and I'm kind of getting tired of YA paranormal.

Dreaming the Eagle (Boudica, #1) by Manda Scott - about Boudica, the Celtic Warrior Queen. A little slow to start, but interesting.

The Tale of Castle Cottage (The Cottage Tales of Beatrix Potter, #8) by Susan Wittig Albert - the latest Beatrix Potter mystery.

The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt - I just started it, but I'm scratching my head as to how it made the Man Booker Shortlist this year. It's not bad, it's just not great (so far).

message 364: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm looking forward to reading Anna Dressed in Blood.

message 365: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Second Chance Second Chance by Jane Green , The Beach House The Beach House by Jane Green and Lola Carlyle Reveals All Lola Carlyle Reveals All by Rachel Gibson . I'm in the mood for some light reads.

Shay | 923 comments Sashana wrote: "I'm looking forward to reading Anna Dressed in Blood."

It was really good. I think the best paranormal type book I've read this year. I would say that this book and Divergent were the two best YA books released this year (that I've read).

message 367: by Aneeqah (new)

Aneeqah | 322 comments I've heard lots of things about Anna Dressed in Blood. I'm glad to hear you liked it! I'm excited to get my hands on it. The cover is just amazing.

message 368: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Started Becoming Marie Antoinette Becoming Marie Antoinette by Juliet Grey yesterday. I'm about 20% in and really enjoying it so far. It's concentrating on her life before France at this point, which isn't usually the part of her life you get much exposure to.

message 369: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) I'm reading Something Blue Something Blue (Darcy & Rachel, #2) by Emily Giffin , which is surprising to me since I couldn't stand Darcy Rhone when I read Something Borrowed (Darcy & Rachel, #1) by Emily Giffin Something Borrowed and I still can't stand her. But I picked it up in the barnes & noble last week and read 20 pages of it and now here I am.

Read the blurb. It sounds creepy!

This weekend I decided to buckle down and read the library books I had checked out back in the summer (and have library fines both paid and unpaid for).

I read:

The Snow Queen by Mercedes Lackey, which was about as much as I had expected from her

Wither by Lauren DeStefano, which was a decent read (meant to join the buddy read but didn't get around to reading it then)

The Viking Takes a Knight by Sandra Hill, which was a little too ridiculous for my taste

I also finished:

When Beauty Tamed the Beast by Eloisa James, which I got from Paperbackswap for a challenge in another group and thoroughly enjoyed

and

Baby, I'm Yours by Stephanie Bond, which was from my huge freebie TBR pile

I'm working on finishing:

Veil of Shadows by Shiloh Walker, which I will hopefully manage to finish this time

as well as

Magic to the Bone by Devon Monk

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Haven't posted here in awhile, so here's my latest:

The Shadowing Hunted (The Shadowing, #1) by Adam Slater Took awhile for me to get into it, but glad I kept with it. I'm interested to see what happens in the sequel.

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1) by Kiersten White Good book. Loved Lend! Was a little bummed with the overly angelic ending, but overall liked the book and the storyline.

Bloodshot (The Cheshire Red Reports, #1) by Cherie Priest Loved this book! A vampire posed theif who finds out that some military operations is trying to harvest vampire powers. Can't wait to read the 2nd in the series (which I just bought and got signed by Cherie Priest *squeee*)

Torment (Fallen, #2) by Lauren Kate 2nd in the fallen series. I'm not completely hooked to this series, but I like it enough to want to read the next one. I find the pace too slow overall.

And finally, I'm reading now:
Juliet by Anne Fortier Just started this yesterday and it seems pretty good so far. It gives me the Davincci Code feel as Julie goes out to find her family secret.

message 372: by Sashana (new)

Sashana It seems a lot of people feel that way about Juliet, Jex. I think I may have to read The Da Vinci Code afterall.

I couldn't get into Fallen so I don't know if I'll ever read Torment.

message 373: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Torment was better then Fallen in my opinion, but not drastically better.

message 374: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) still reading The Life And Times of Richard Castro Bridging a Cultural Divide (Colorado History Series) by Richard Gould I like read a few pages here and there but I end up wanting to fall asleep. I'm also still reading Hot Blooded by Christine Feehan this is also taking me a minute cause of the other book. but no matter what I gotta be done with the Castro book on SUnday cause the paper is due on Sunday and I am hoping to be done with Hot Blooded tonight.

message 375: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jhaltenburger) Started and finished a play by John Galsworthy today -- Loyalties :: a drama in three acts / which is about a successful Jewish British businessman who accuses an acquaintance-- not Jewish, not successful, but upper class and a member of the same clubs-- of theft. Of course, since dueling is passee, it must be resolved in a defamation court case. The title stems from a theme found in the other characters-- other members of the clubs the pro- and antagonists belong to, who have reason to believe the accused is guilty but are reluctant to take the side of the Jew against one of their own.

message 376: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) I read:

Lord and Lady Spy by Shana Galen which was fun.

Potent Pleasures (Pleasures, #1) by Eloisa James which I could tell was an earlier work of the author's. I don't know how to describe it. I guess you could say that it was less polished, more...clumsy, and less focused than her later works. But I still enjoyed it.

Jump First by Charles Edward which was a sweet m/m romance between two high school seniors. I liked the author's voice.

I'm currently reading:

The Defiant Hero (Troubleshooters, #2) by Suzanne Brockmann . I send belated apologies to those I had intended to join in the buddy read. It's okay so far but everything seems so...sanitized (okay, I confess to those who read my review for the first book: I'm rereading Special Forces Soldiers this time around too!) that (view spoiler) I don't feel it. I don't feel the emotions. I don't feel like she will do it. I want to feel her emotions: her desperation, her fear, her dread that she might have to take the final step, her exhaustion. I want to feel her on the verge of cracking. But I don't feel anything. I do like the grandmother's history being interwoven. It's quite lovely although I wonder at its presence at the same time.

message 377: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I finished Hot Blooded by Christine Feehan good book, going to finish the very long The Life And Times of Richard Castro Bridging a Cultural Divide (Colorado History Series) by Richard Gould but I'm also like half way through Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger also another good book, keeps you occupied when you have a sick kid in the middle of the night.

message 378: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Just finished Juliet by Anne Fortier . I thought it was pretty good. Loved the author's version of Romeo and Juliet plus so many twists and turns!

Now to read Dangerously Placed by Nansi Kunze which is an ARC I was given to review. The summary sounds intriguing.

message 379: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) finished Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger and now reading Lord of the Vampires (Royal House of Shadows, #1) (Harlequin Nocturne, #119) by Gena Showalter

Kristen | 223 comments I am finally reading Twilight Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer - I just have to see what all the hype is about and haven't had a chance to read it before now.

Sashana Mckris10 wrote: "I am finally reading Twilight Twilight (Twilight, #1) by Stephenie Meyer - I just have to see what all the hype is about and haven't had a chance to read it before now."

I wish that everyone could have read Twilight before the hype (both negative and positive). I think it's hard to stay unbiased after everything.

message 382: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 223 comments I'm hopefully going in to it relatively unbiased. I honestly haven't heard too much about it except everyone I know LOVES it, but I have never pressed for details because I hate spoilers. I haven't seen any of the movies either. I like it so far, but I'm only 39 pages into it too. It's a new genre for me because I don't usually read fantasy type books.

I hope you like it I did, it's what got me back into reading.

message 384: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I'm reading Sisterhood Everlasting and it's bittersweet for me. Over the course of the series I really fell in love with the characters and the bond that they have with each other. I feel like this book is changing my perception of each character, and not in a good way. Also reading Withering Tights which I am not enjoying at all. I get that the writing style is supposed to be lax and humorous but its not doing anything for me.

message 385: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) I started reading Scared Stiff (A Mattie Winston Mystery #2) by Annelise Ryan which I thought would be appropriate for Halloween. It's entertaining so far. I like the author's voice. I'm thinking I ought to have read the first book first though; this is the second and references events that had happened in the first book. I think it could stand alone though.

I gave up on Milking the Rhino Dangerously Funny Lists by Chris Rush . It was not dangerously funny. It was not even remotely funny.

Both were freebies.

Lacey | 61 comments Finished Carrier of the Mark by Leigh Fallon and The Hidden (The Hollow, #3) by Jessica Verday

And now I'm just starting Suck It Up and Die by Brian Meehl which is okay so far but haven't read much yet...

message 389: by Shadow Jubilee (new)

Shadow Jubilee (uhqs) I'm working on

The Fashion Police (Comedy Mystery) by Sibel Hodge and Gone Too Far (Troubleshooters, #6) by Suzanne Brockmann .

The Fashion Police is okay. It's pretty funny. Not exactly my cup of tea perhaps. It's a chick-lit mystery. Like the British voice. Interested in the mystery. Wish there was more focus on that than on the chick-litty stuff.

Gone Too Far - err, I kind of got a little impatient. The author kept dumping many different POVs, and I got sick of her constantly putting in a WWII storyline in these books. I skimmed through the book to the end, but I'll have to go back and finish it properly - if not soon, then after I've read Books 3-5 first.

message 390: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) finished Haunted by Your Touch (Doomsday Brethren #3.5) by Jeaniene Frost pretty good, I wish there was more to the jeaniene's frost story like more books in that world i would most definitely read more of it. THe other two were good as well, and will read more of these authors as well, but just like any other anthology they are rushed and leave you hanging for more. Now I am reading however is Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater which is good so far but taking me a minute to remember what had happened in the last book, I probably should've done a re-read of it before hand but oh well now I remember what happened, and it's too late lol.

message 391: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (treychel) | 1484 comments I finished The Power of Six (Lorien Legacies, #2) by Pittacus Lore a few days ago. I loved it. It only took me three days to finsh, which is really good considering the older I get the less time I have to read. I usually average a book a week now. :(

I am reading Goddess of the Sea (Goddess Summoning, #1) by P.C. Cast now. Liking it a lot.

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) finished Forever (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #3) by Maggie Stiefvater it was pretty anti-climatic for a last book I think, I wasn't impressed with this one, I think it was missing something. Now I'm reading Storm Glass (Glass, #1) by Maria V. Snyder

Yeah, I thought it was missing something too, Shiver definately was the best out of the series for me :)

Btw, love Storm Glass can't wait to see how you take to it.

message 394: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I don't know I think Linger was my favorite out of the series, I was so excited to read Forever and then I found myself skipping over skimming over some parts because it was a snooze. And I loved the Study series, so I'm sure I will love the glass series.

message 395: by Sashana (last edited Oct 24, 2011 01:12PM) (new)

Sashana I read Beautiful Disaster a few days ago and I LOVED it. If anyone is looking for a contemporary romance then you should check it out.

a. I loved that the protagonist was in college, so it’s a very mature YA (which reads like adult fiction)

b. I'm surprised that the book is self-published because 1. the cover is gorgeous and 2. it was well written. I think a lot of Indie books get bad press and I'm glad I read this one to prove that self-published books can be great.

message 396: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Finished recently:
Dangerously Placed by Nansi Kunze Great book about virtual reality work place and murder.

The Ghosts of Ragged-Ass Gulch by Bill Pronzini (audiobook) Short story that was free on audible. It was alright. Nothing that blew me away.

Spy Killer (Stories from the Golden Age) by L. Ron Hubbard (audiobook) I think I missed some important plot points because I zoned out or something because things didn't seem to make that much sense toward the end. Meh. It happens with me and audiobooks :-P

Now reading:
Hereafter (Hereafter, #1) by Tara Hudson - Liking it so far.

Bite Me (A Love Story, #3) by Christopher Moore - Abby Normal is the most annoying narrator ever created! The plot line is supposed to be funny, but I can't get the grating valley girl speak out of my head! The parts that she isn't narrating aren't too bad, but overall still not an amazing plot. We'll see if it change.

message 397: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Jex, out of curiosity do you listen to audio books on a CD, cassette, or mp3 player?

message 398: by Jex (new)

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments Actually I tend to listen to them on my phone. I can load books from audible or overdrive (which I've found a lot for free) right on to the phone. Every once in awhile I'll do CDs if i get it from the library and then either load it on my computer or just listen to it in the car. I really don't listen to too many audiobooks in the grand scheme of things though.

message 399: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Okay I was just wondering because I'm having a hard time transferring Overdrive audiobooks to my iTouch. I might have to search on Youtube to see if I come up with anything.
