I enjoy his work. I really need to get my hands on The Andromeda Strain. The premise sounds intriguing.
25. The War of the Flowers: 670p - 5.5/10
Thank heavens I'm done with this one! Felt like it would drag on forever. The last 150 pages had some redeeming value and I liked the mixed emotion feel to the ending.

Another slow paced book. Two in a row isn't much fun.

Surprisingly good read. Not much sci-fi, more like a thriller set in the future.

Kinda weird sci-fi with immense ideas and questions. The ending is thought provoking to no end.

I loved it, but seems some people didn't enjoy it. I guess it really appealed to my geeky streak and how simple he makes the whole TCP/IP protocol business sound.

Yes it's a trilogy. Wake, Watch and Wonder. The TPB of Wonder is available from May. Watch is in MMPB now.

37: Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Volume 2 - 620p - 6/10
(Horror is a stretch, but I think it fits the definition loosely)

A very slow read for me and the ending wasn't very satisfying. No wonder the youth of today don't appreciate "real" vampires.

I am reading it now and must say I don't like it too much either and I am not even close to the ending. I am on page 141. I am reading the Penguin Popular Classics version and that has 441 pages. That is after deducting the pages with the contents on it and the title page (the original text starts on page 9 and ends on page 449). There are no empty spaces in the text because chapters start on the same page that the previous one ends on.
Thanks Barbara. I'm going to go with 440 pages then.
I think it's written in a very old style that doesn't compare very well with the pace of today's novels. I read a third of it, then took a break by reading some sci-fi and forced myself to read the rest.
The ending is very anti-climatic. You feel almost cheated after having to read through all the diary entries and fluff to finally get to the final confrontation and then it basically falls kinda flat.
Did you have it on your TBR list? If you did I can use you in the UTR challenge.

I don't know if it's the syle. I am used to reading the classics and am used to sometimes fluffy styles of writing. And I like books that are written as a diary or letters because they give you a sort of sneek peek into someones life. Like you shouldn't be reading it but you are. It's just that it is all a bit analytical and clean. Like when Jonathan sees the count climbing out of his window and crawling down the castle walls upside down, he doesn't seem to be too upset about it. He says he is upset but I don't feel like he is upset. Maybe it's just what they call the British stiff upper lip. I don't know. I'll let you know what I think after I finished it.

Also, today vampires and other monsters are often anti-heroes - you like them more than the people trying to kill them. It's fun on the dark side. In Dracula though you're supposed to be rooting for the Harkers and Van Helsing, but they're a bit lame compared to the Count.
Yeah, that's actually true. What I found amazing was that she actually lived so long after all those transfusions from 4 different people. What's the chances of them all being the same blood type? ;)
50: The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time: 250p - 8/10
I loved the different viewpoint and how Christoper experiences the world as an autistic person. The frightening thing was that I can see quite a few similar mannerisms in myself. Thankfully nothing as severe, but still!

53: Salem's Lot: 626p - 7/10
Not as scary as I was led to believe, although in comparison to Dracula it's much better. It was interesting to compare the parallels between Dracula and Salem's Lot.
