message 108: by Maritza (new)

Maritza | 169 comments if she stayed that way the whole time, then xander would be perfect

message 109: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) I don't think she was developed well enough she was so..dull.

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) LOL, I think you would be quite dull too if you lived there. I do hope the story picks up a bit though in the next book. I'm hoping for some Hunger Games-esque rebellion.

Camilla (camillaisloved) | 914 comments I agree with that. I would love a rebellion!

Maritza | 169 comments Action never hurts

message 115: by Camilla (new)

Camilla (camillaisloved) | 914 comments It sure doesn't. Just as long as it has a good love story to go with it. Love those kind of books that have it all balanced out with different subjects.

Tashina (tashinafalene) This book dragged on way too much for me. Cassia wasn't developed enough, and seemed so one dimensional. It took me great effort to finish, only to promptly return it to Amazon.

I had such hopes for this book, especially after seeing the cover months ago. But now I'm not even going to bother with any sequels.

I agree. It was too slow.

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) We should have a poll about opinions on this book, it'll be interesting to see it all together. :)

message 120: by Maritza (new)

Maritza | 169 comments Ik most ppl think it was slow bt others like it

message 121: by Michele (new)

Michele Yeah it was too slow for me I guess it just wasn't my type of book.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) All of the scenes with her family and grandfather were really dragging for me.

I didn't feel like either of her guy choices were all that exciting either. It's not good when you can put a book down and not even remember basic details about the characters.

Book 2 will at least get a shot from me though because this series COULD really go somewhere great if the author reigns it in. Dystopians are fabulous when done well, so here's hoping.

Maybe I judged this one harshly because of my love for books like Hunger Games, Maze Runner and Unwind, which were all extremely good.

message 123: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) I think what mostly let me down about this book was that my expectations were so high. I'd heard it was like The Hunger Games so.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Unwind has been my favorite dystopian after HG. That book is really good. Although, I can't wait to read Chaos Walking, since Isa usually knows what to get me to read.

message 125: by brittany (new)

brittany (cirilla) I really wanna read Chaos walking. I had it out from the library but took it back because I don't have time to read it.

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) I've only read te first book of Chaos Walking and it's really good :)

@Maritza: I looooooove the Chaos Walking trilogy! Where to start? Where to start? The first book is called THE KNIFE OF NEVER LETTING GO. Here's the GR blurb:
"Todd Hewitt is the last boy in Prentisstown.

But Prentisstown isn't like other towns. Everyone can hear everyone else's thoughts in a constant, overwhelming, never-ending Noise. There is no privacy. There are no secrets.

Or are there?

Just one month away from the birthday that will make him a man, Todd unexpectedly stumbles upon a spot of complete silence.

Which is impossible.

Prentisstown has been lying to him.

And now he's going to have to run... "

It's slow at the start, but once you get into it... the closest thing I can compare it to is Hunger Games (And I love that one as well!)

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) The bit I loved was the fonts that were used to show the noise, that was quite cool. Also the relationship between the two main characters was really sweet.

It was quite slow but was worth it in the end. Bit gruesome in places too.

Courtney K (cklueh) I just checked the reviews for Chaos Walking to see if it was the one with the weird language? Yep, it is. According to Joyzi (my bud), it is NOT for grammar Nazis, which I AM, which is why I couldn't get past the first chapter. She goes on to say that it was an awesome read, so I may have to give it another go. Maybe I should pretend like it's a story written on the Internet, so I'll be more forgiving of all the typos. Yikes!

Rach (pagesofpiper) (piperbunny) Don't think that the typos are intentional... it's that way for a reason. :) Okay that's probably not going to help you at all. But do try it again :)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) I say if you try something like that and it bothers you that much, there's no sense having to force the read. There's so many books out there, not everything can be for everyone.

I almost gave up on Maze Runner because the alternate slang annoyed me so much at first. Every time I read words like "shuckface" and "klunk" it made my skin crawl. To the author's credit, he did create the alternate slang to differentiate the dystopian world those kids were living in from our normal world.

But as I continued to read on it stopped bothering me because the story was so good. I am a huge Maze Runner/Scorch Trials fan now and was glad to have given it a chance, but if I picked up the book today I might have tossed it aside within the first chapter because my patience level isn't as high as it used to be.

Maritza | 169 comments i got maze runner but never really got into it

message 134: by Candy (new)

Candy | 387 comments I loved this book but I agree that if you can't get into ANY book by a quarter of the way in, drop it. There are SOOO many good books to read. My to read list is almost up to 1,000 books. I don't think I'll be able to read them all in my lifetime, lol!

message 135: by thesebooksiread (new)

thesebooksiread For me, I felt that the first half (maybe less) was like any book that had the similar Utopian ideas. It didn't feel that different to me and I felt bored and had to push my way to keep going. But, like a lot of you said, once it finally got going I really enjoyed it. I ended up finishing it faster than I would have thought once it picked up. I liked both Ky and Xander so I don't know how I will feel later on in the series. I am hoping the next book really gives us a lot more so I can really feel more connected to the characters. Slow at first but picked up enough that I ended up giving it a pretty good rating!
