So, I'm not sure if any of you knew this, but apparently one of the authors of this book (there are two) is the guy who wrote A Million Little Pieces and pretended it was his memoir.
I really want to see the movie and I do want to read the book still, but I don't know if I will read it before or after the movie. And Alex's Beastly will be out around then too! Woot woot!

The way I heard it was that James Frey (the guy from A Million Little Pieces) basically just cruises colleges and recruites desperate poor writing students to write books with a plotline that James Frey already thought of. Apparently he is trying to cash in in the YA-craze that is going on, and is really trying to push Aliens as the new 'it' thing. It makes me so angry, because these kids are being taking advantage of (their contract is SO bad. The authors are not allowed to talk about their novels without James Freys consent, and the publishing contract has a clause in it that they can't question the money they are supposed to be making. So they can get paid 5 cents and they can't even object to it. But when you are a student with a crazy amount of collegedebt and a famous writer offers you a chance to work for him I can understand the temptation) and this book is so obviously a cash cow (which explains how the book was published only half a year ago, but already the movie version is finished)
Also I heard the book isn't that great and it reads more like a script then an actual novel

Before the book was even written, the film was commissioned, so that probably affected how it was written. James Frey's publishing company disgusts me...
I was annoyed by his lies in regards to "A million little pieces"...
But I still kind of want to read this book, mainly because it's gonna be a film with Alex Pettyfer.

haha yeah (Dreamy sigh at Alex Pettyfer) I'll probably read it out of curiosity but I def. won't be paying for the book

Me neither. It's fourteen quid where I'm from. When bosks tend to average 8, then you tend not to get ones that go well over that. It's not in the ;ibrary yet though.
I saw the plot of the book (actually on goodreads) so I asked the library to buy the book. So a year after reading Beastly "OMG it's a movie!!! OMF it has Alex Pettyfer!!!" Then WHOA I AM NUMBER FOUR is a movie???!" So I finally read the book. and was disapointed. If Alex Pettyfer and the girl from glee weren't in it I would probably wait and watch the movie on tv. But, alas, I'm a teenager and like star power so I'm going to see the movie
Movie trailor for I Am Number Four, it actually looks better than the book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8aXUN...
Oh I hadn't seen that trailer yet, it looks awesome. Dj, I am not a teenager, but I will be going to see it as well (even if I think the book sucks). Just like I will be going to see Beastly. <3
Still, it could be a good adaption. They also gave him a tattoo, which he didn't have...and that greenhouse...
But as long as they keep the soul of the book intact, I'm happy.
RIP Percy Jackson and the lightning thief. I hardly knew ye (on screen). :P
^^ The greenhouse was in the book, or do you mean that in a different way? I am glad they made him all marked up instead of hairy. Because really, hairy? I was scared at first that that would look ridiculous, so I was glad they went in a different direction. And really, what would the point be in having Alex in the movie if we couldn't see him, lol.
Did he build her a greenhouse? I forget. I loaned my copy to a friend and never got it back :PThat's an excellent point regarding Alex and his hotness being obscured by hair.
It's a bit slow in the begining, but so is the book. The main complaint I had was.....(view spoiler)
ya at first it sounded like she had a regular American accent than it switched to British/Australian
Mairead wrote: "Before the book was even written, the film was commissioned, so that probably affected how it was written."I recently finished this one, and I have to agree with Mairead's comment here.
Not only is the method of this book's conception a little unnerving, but I don't think the quality of the finished product is worth the hype. Yet that's not going to stop the loads of money they're likely to make off this production.
Nope. I tried book one and it bored me to tears. Plus, I don't support the "author" or the system behind them.
YOu know, neither did I. HOnestly after all the buzz about the first two books I'm surprised they didn't pop up on my GRs' friends updates or something.
I think readers can weed out the BS. These books had a lot of smoke and mirrors but now its cleared up a bit. I honestly couldn't bring myself to spend my hard earned money on them or even borrow them to read when I have so many other books by authors I like and I think aren't trying to con me. :)No offense to anyone who may like the books or author.
Smoke and mirrors. That about sums it up. Then again, that sums up my feeling for Twiligh and those Halo books.

That I know of Stephanie Myer has moved on to either producing or directing. I think she did Austenland. She seems to have lost her urge to write more of that...stuff.
I've heard host was a good book I enjoyed the movie. I've heard Austenland was a good book and movie though I wonder was it packaged in early stages like the other books we are discussing.
Most likely Stephanie Meyer had a producing credit on the Twilight movies in her contract so it would be very likely that she worked with the author and publisher to set up a packaged deal and to be the producer or director of Austenland. Help broaden her career and of course get more money. I really don't think she's going to write books or that she has any passion for it any longer.
