I'm in, Dhes. :)I'm definitely going to spell Winter...but I want to do 10 books so I need to figure out the theme. :)
Here's what I'm planning to do...subject to change of course!ALL THINGS WINTER
Duration: December 21, 2010 - March 20, 2010
0/10 Completed
W: Wicked Intentions
I: Immortal Warrior
N: The Namesake
T: Time and Chance
E: Eden Close
R: The Rake
Winter in Title: The Winter Rose
Cold Country (Sweden): The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Cold in Title: Cold Night, Warm Stranger
White Cover: Mr. Darcy, Vampyre
And since this is a longer challenge, you can continue to add. Like, spell Winter, then when you're through, spell something else, or read a set theme... it's up to you!You can also work your other challenge reads in. Since January is also winter, things that take place in January can count... or Valentines, New Years... you get the idea...

Yay! I'm happy to see so many joining in!Now remember, because this is a longer running challenge, it's easy to become complacent... I know I've done it! Don't let it get pushed too far on the back burner or you might find yourself scrambling on March 15th! (Again, I've been there)

ALL THINGS WINTERRead 5 books that I already own, with some sort of winter theme. Snow on the cover, etc... with 2 being books my Secret Santa gave me.
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
Thunder and Roses
Flowers From the Storm
I'm sorta confused by the description. Does this mean that: if you spell a "winter" word (i.e. cold, snow, etc.) the books doesn't have to be winter-themed, right? (Sorta like the other Spell-it challenges?) But for the winter-themed, it can be any book so long as it is winter setting?
Exactly, E. You can make it more difficult if you want to by restricting yourself to only a certain theme for the word. For example, if you spell Hot Cocoa, to make it harder, all books must have something to do with Hot Cocoa. Otherwise, for this challenge, any book will do.

Danielle's All Things Winter ChallengeDuration: December 21- March 20, 2010
Goal: Read 20 or more books that have a winter theme. The titles can have winter-related words, or the cover has a winter scene, or the book is set during and pertains to winter.
I will list the books as I go (don't want to box myself into a corner)!
Thanks Suzanne!I prefer to do categories than spelling a word. It's difficult to find options for uncommon letters and then if you don't like the book you have to decide whether to finish the challenge but read a book you don't like or to chuck the book and not finish the challenge. :)
Here's my revised challenge...I took some of Suzanne's categories and added some of mine. :) I still kept to 10 books though!ALL THINGS WINTER
Duration: December 21, 2010 - March 20, 2010
0/10 Completed
Winter Solstice (Winter in Title): The Winter Rose
Sled Pulling Huskies (Wolf Shifters): Silver Borne
Long Dark Nights (Vampires): Lover Revealed
Silent Night (White Cover): Mr. Darcy, Vampyre
A Wicked Winter (Title begins with "W"): Wicked Intentions
Cosy Plaid PJ's (Highlander Romance): The Secret
Steaming Hot Chocolate (Food in Title): The Sugar Queen
Shivering Under The Blankets (Cold in Title): Cold Night, Warm Stranger
Roast Chestnuts (Yellow Cover): God Is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything
Shimmering Snow Flakes (Snowy or Cold Place): The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

I prefer catergories as well, I dead "U"'s & "I"'s coming up as I have prettu much no books for that!

U books to look for can start with Until, Undead, Under...
I - Into, In, Indian... just some suggestions. If you go to "add book/author" and type in one of those words, several books will appear.
But yeah... those are tough!!!
Is it sad that I have got the first book in Mary Janice Davidson "Undead" series and one of teh main reasons was so that I had a supply of "U" books! I think I have a challenge addiction problem!
The thing is that in challenges I prefer to use either books from my TBR or books that I already have in my 'consider list' and because those letters are not that common, usually I have just one or two books that qualify and if I end up not liking the books, I have either to start over or just get a book because of the title, which I don't like to do.When I did the Spell Autumn challenge at the RRRC, I didn't like either of the 'U' books I read but ended up finishing them because of the challenge. I don't like to force myself to read a book I don't like but I also don't like not to finish a challenge and that's why I like the categories because they give you a broader choices of selections or you can just change the categories. When you are spelling something, you are pretty much stuck to that.
I am stuck with getting with either a book I have already on my bookshelf or what is in my library or swap site. I don't mind getting books for the titles with the swap site or library as I can just put them back!I am still doing that challenge! I am still waiting for my U book "Undead and Unwed" to arrive from my swap. It does suck when you are stuck with a book you don't like for a challenge, especially one that isn't easy to replace, I also find the geography ones hard to find as well, most the time it is luck that prevails in those cases!
I do love doing challenges though, I can't seem to help signing up for almost ALL the challenges i see!

All books should have a winter theme of come sort, or in some way remind you of winter.
Some suggestions -
Spell out words that remind you of winter, such as Snow, Winter, Blizzard, etc.
S - Seduce Me at Sunrise - Lisa Kleypas
N - Nolan, William - Logan's Run
O
W - Wanda Brunstetter - The Storekeeper's Daughter
Read only books with a set winter theme, such as all books must take place in a snowy location.
As always, YOU decide how to make this challenge work for you! If something reminds YOU of winter, it works!
The only restriction is that you can not begin reading before December 21st.
The most important thing is to have fun! :)
