I read the short story that precedes the series and I REALLY didn't like it, so I've been hesitant to start the real books.

message 252: by N.L. (new)

N.L. Riviezzo (nlriviezzo) Megan, I just finished the second/third book. The prequel wasn't very good but it is vaguely important to No Rest for the Wicked as it is referenced. Both it and A Hunger like No Other are really good. Looking forward to reading the next book.

message 253: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments I've never read the prequel myself - I rarely do. Since they are usually in anthologies, and I rarely read anthologies, I usually miss them entirely. You should give A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole a try, and if you don't like THAT one, then I'd say this series is just not going to happen for you. :)

Thanks guys....I'm going to give that one a try!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 152 comments What's not to like...Stalky Scot werewolves, vampires and other Lore creatures. Seriously, when the man is doing the chasing, the women are a laugh a minute while running.

I struggled with this too but decided to just go with him! He did watch her all the time on the security camera... That's stalkerish right?

message 266: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments That is a really good point Bianca. Plus the whole reincarnation thing is pretty stalkerish even though it was not very sinister.

And you make an equally good point about CF, Danielle! I've actually only read one of the Carpathian books so it'll give me a good reason to go there. Plus she has another Leopard People book coming out soon and they are pretty stalkerific.

Megan - I love that you actually said "oh snap!"

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 241 comments Right, what do you mean by Stalkerific hero? I'm lost on that one. Is it one we want to stalk or one who is a stalker????

Gem, Stalkerific hero is extremely possessive, obsessed with the heroine, and tends to be very jealous. They might be a stalker in real life. Again, we are not condoning such behaviors in real life.

Gemma (bookmoodreviews) | 241 comments Ta! Wasn't sure. :)

I mean there are loads of characters, I'd happily stalk. Lol

(I did great in January but didn't make much progress in February.)

DHASG 2011 Mega-Challenge
Duration: January 1 - December 31

Tier I: Rank Your Bad Boys/Dangerous Heroes

8/10 completed

Dangerous Hero Scale

√ 10:Completely lethal, seemingly remorseless, has no problem killing to get the job done, or killing as the job. Killing someone doesn't phase him. It's either him or them and don't let someone be after someone he loves. More or less amoral-except when it comes to things that have true value to him (like his heroine or his family). The mission is all that matters to him (at least until he falls for his heroine). Colin Gyth from Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden == 01/20

9:Not the guy to mess with. He has few boundaries he won't cross.

8:He can be ruthless. Not above doing almost anything for self-promotion. Has and will betray those close to him if needed. He has a code, but it's his own code--not necessarily in line with established laws, rules, or mores.

√ 7:Most people would probably consider him insane or crazy, or just kinda whacked in the head. A scary guy. Bo "The Marauder" Novikov from Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston == 01/15

√ 6:Ruthless to get the job done, or to get what he wants/needs/or to protect others. Roarke from Indulgence in Death (In Death, #31) by J.D. Robb == 01/31

√ 5:A hero who still has the aura of a bad boy, but is more laid back and open and not necessarily quite as ruthless. Any hero who has stalkerific tendencies is automatically a 5. He's not the type that is completely unpredictable. Tyler "Midnight" Call from Midnight Velvet by Jaci Burton == 01/28

√ 4:He has shown that those who mistake him for a ordinary, nice guy are wrong. He'll surprise you! Logan Hunt from Master of the Mountain by Cherise Sinclair == 01/11

√ 3:He will do 'bad' things for reasons he feels is necessary, and not feel too much regret about it. He has no problem claiming, kidnapping, or taking his heroine when the situation calls for it. Jack Donnelly from Tooth and Nailed by Hannah Murray == 01/02

√ 2:Slightly more volatile than a 1. Most of the time he is very well behaved, you just don't want to get him riled up! Jack Donohue from All Jacked Up by Lorelei James == 01/04

√ 1:mild-mannered most of the time, but when his fuse gets lit, watch out. He becomes the most dangerous man in the room. Calin MacLeod from Highland Dragon by Kimberly Killion == 01/09

Wminbc | 19 comments What is with me this month??? Not enough bad boys...last year I think every book was a bad boy stalkerific male, but this year the women are the ones getting saved by good guys...really hot and hunky but not bad like last years men...May need to do some re-reads...but as of March 1...here's were I am at:
Tier I: Rank Your Bad Boys/Dangerous Heroes
For this level of the challenge, refer to the Dangerous Hero Scale:
Dangerous Hero Scale
10:Completely lethal, seemingly remorseless, has no problem killing to get the job done, or killing as the job. Killing someone doesn't phase him. It's either him or them and don't let someone be after someone he loves. More or less amoral-except when it comes to things that have true value to him (like his heroine or his family). The mission is all that matters to him (at least until he falls for his heroine).
Natches, Nauti Dreams, Lora Leigh

9:Not the guy to mess with. He has few boundaries he won't cross.
Declan Chase/Aiden the Fierce, Dreams of a Dark Warrior, Kresley Cole

8:He can be ruthless. Not above doing almost anything for self-promotion. Has and will betray those close to him if needed. He has a code, but it's his own code--not necessarily in line with established laws, rules, or mores.

7:Most people would probably consider him insane or crazy, or just kinda whacked in the head. A scary guy.

6:Ruthless to get the job done, or to get what he wants/needs/or to protect others.

5:A hero who still has the aura of a bad boy, but is more laid back and open and not necessarily quite as ruthless. Any hero who has stalkerific tendencies is automatically a 5. He's not the type that is completely unpredictable.

4:He has shown that those who mistake him for a ordinary, nice guy are wrong. He'll surprise you!

3:He will do 'bad' things for reasons he feels is necessary, and not feel too much regret about it. He has no problem claiming, kidnapping, or taking his heroine when the situation calls for it.
Reule, Drink of Me, Jacquelyn Frank

2:Slightly more volatile than a 1. Most of the time he is very well behaved, you just don't want to get him riled up!

1:mild-mannered most of the time, but when his fuse gets lit, watch out. He becomes the most dangerous man in the room.
Asher, From the Ashes, Maree Anderson

N.L. Riviezzo (nlriviezzo) Thanks ladies!

Those last 10 locations are proving to be very challenging. Most of the books I keep reading all seem to be set in the same 6 locations. :(

Amanda (kittiescardigansbooks) | 207 comments I know what you mean NL! My love for historical romance set in England is really holding me back on that tier! I have also realized that I read a lot of books set in Texas. I had never realized that before I started keeping track!

I'm in the same boat with the locations....these authors need to start getting creative with their settings!

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 152 comments Been a long time since I updated. I just finished a book and maybe some of you could use it for location. I'm more of a flaky kind of reader so this one was quite a departure but so worth it. The The Fallen Blade: Act One of the Assassini(Assassini series) by Jon Courtenay Grimwood, check this out:
Venise 1407, an amnesic boy is found on a ship, the duke in charge is dumb so his uncle and aunt rule in his stead. Lots of power plays and assassination to further trade routes and cement alliances as well as kidnapping. The boy become the apprentice into the Assissini caste. The alternate history story is dark and gritty, with sorcerers, wolves and a refreshing twist to the vampire myth...it is no Twilight.
Ok I'm rambling a bit but I was floored by this story.

Dina (missdina) | 179 comments Update...
(I did great in January but didn't make much progress in February and March. Must get my mojo back!)
