DHASG 2011 Mega-Challenge

Maybe I cannot leave well enough alone but 20 books is doable in a year....I just have to find books with men heros in it. I need help because I read too much PNR with female characters. If I were to post a list of books I have pinned down...someone could help me with fill in the blanks for tier II?

Types of Dangerous Heroes/Bad Boys
1.Assassin:Skin Game by Ava Gray
2.Modern Soldier:Navarro's Promise by Lora Leigh
3.Seducer/Heartbreaker:This Side of the Grave by Jeanine Frost
4.Stalkerific Hero:Bound by Blood by Jourdane Lane
5.Tortured Hero:The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter
6.Criminal:Mercy Blade by Faith Hunter
7.Law Enforcement:?????
8.Gunslinger/Outlaw:If You Dare by Kresley Cole
9.Historical Warrior:Warrior by Zoe Archer
10.Spy :The Assignment by Evangeline Anderson (ok, more undercover)
11.White Collar Raider:Lover Unleashed by JR Ward
12.Blue Collar: ????
13.Dangerous Job-holder:????
14.Paranormally Lethal/Immortal Warriors: Shadowfever by Karen Moning (Baron)
15.Cowboy/Rancher: Dead Sexy by Kimberly Raye
16.Bodyguards/Protectors: Moonshine by Rob Thurman
17.Athletes/Bikers: ???
18.Rakehell/Rake :Scoundrel by Zoe Archer
19.Emperors/Kings:Dreams of a Dark Warrior by Kresley Cole
Other books That I can't fit in:
Deeper Than Midnight by Lara Adrian (Hunter's story, former assassin and Breed)
Kiss of Snow by Nalini Singh (Hawke's story)
Mysterious Journey to the North Sea, Part Two by Hideyuki Kikuchi (D is the wickest bad ass there is,kills everybody with a sword and saves the girl. He's just not a talker, like says maybe two lines per book....and I don't know where to put him.)
Valerie, I'm glad you're going to try to participate. Don't be afraid to get creative. I hope we all follow the rules, but the sky is the limit for how you can get your reading to work for these challenges. I hope that makes sense.
Here are my thoughts. I think we can count Manny as White Collar. Also Barrons from the Fever series would be considered white collar since he's a businessman.
If you read books with motorcycle riding heroes, they count. How about some of the angels from Covet or Crave.
Any book with a guy who sleeps around a lot is considered a rake. I'm sure there are a lot of books with rakes in PNR reading. I'll keep thinking on books for you.
Cindy, here is a folder for you to create a log:

I think a lot of these guys are more than one category, so you can put them where you think they will work best for you.

Sorry to ask without reading the rules :),...should I update my post with the list and only write a comment/review in the thread in order to keep the pages number down or repost the whole thing every time?
How do you all normally proceed for yearly challenge? Repost every 5 books done?
Just want to know.

However you want to post your progress is up to you. I'm not picky about that. I would suggest filling in the blank on your original post, and post it as a new post as you progress. As Cindy requested, I started a folder where you can make a thread for your reading progress, and just add to it there and post it here. As for myself, I usually post after after few books. I won't have time to do it after every book.
Valerie, I see you're doing Warrior by Zoe Archer for your historical warrior...the second book in that series is called Scoundrel, so you could use it for your Rake/Rakehell category! And I would probably put Bones in the Seducer/Heartbreaker category even though he is now reformed LOL!

DHASG 2011 Mega-Challenge
Duration: January 1 - December 31
Tier I: Rank Your Bad Boys/Dangerous Heroes
8/10 completed
Dangerous Hero Scale
10:Completely lethal, seemingly remorseless, has no problem killing to get the job done, or killing as the job. Killing someone doesn't phase him. It's either him or them and don't let someone be after someone he loves. More or less amoral-except when it comes to things that have true value to him (like his heroine or his family). The mission is all that matters to him (at least until he falls for his heroine). Colin Gyth from Hotter After Midnight by Cynthia Eden == 01/20
9:Not the guy to mess with. He has few boundaries he won't cross.
8:He can be ruthless. Not above doing almost anything for self-promotion. Has and will betray those close to him if needed. He has a code, but it's his own code--not necessarily in line with established laws, rules, or mores.
7:Most people would probably consider him insane or crazy, or just kinda whacked in the head. A scary guy. Bo "The Marauder" Novikov from Beast Behaving Badly by Shelly Laurenston == 01/15
6:Ruthless to get the job done, or to get what he wants/needs/or to protect others. Roarke from Indulgence in Death (In Death, #31) by J.D. Robb == 01/31
5:A hero who still has the aura of a bad boy, but is more laid back and open and not necessarily quite as ruthless. Any hero who has stalkerific tendencies is automatically a 5. He's not the type that is completely unpredictable. Tyler "Midnight" Call from Midnight Velvet by Jaci Burton == 01/28
4:He has shown that those who mistake him for a ordinary, nice guy are wrong. He'll surprise you! Logan Hunt from Master of the Mountain by Cherise Sinclair == 01/11
3:He will do 'bad' things for reasons he feels is necessary, and not feel too much regret about it. He has no problem claiming, kidnapping, or taking his heroine when the situation calls for it. Jack Donnelly from Tooth and Nailed by Hannah Murray == 01/02
2:Slightly more volatile than a 1. Most of the time he is very well behaved, you just don't want to get him riled up! Jack Donohue from All Jacked Up by Lorelei James == 01/04
1:mild-mannered most of the time, but when his fuse gets lit, watch out. He becomes the most dangerous man in the room. Calin MacLeod from Highland Dragon by Kimberly Killion == 01/09

I suggest the Zoe Archer Blades of the Rose series for historical paranormal, which I believe Megan had suggested earlier.

Thanks! I had planned not to include any re-reads...so the challenge really is for me to read things I don't usually...but the dangerous hero/cowboy are easy for me...the historical...I OD'd on them about 10yrs ago and haven't been back to that genre...will check out Zoe Archer

I think I would like to join this challenge. I think this will help me figure out what to read as the year progresses.

I haven't read this series yet but it is on my TBR

[bookcover:Night's..."
Thanks Lashell, do they rank on the "smut" scale or are they tame? I just get annoyed with woman who won't say what they really thing and feel and then the angst and wonder about the guys love/trust...you know what I mean...I would rather they get down to business and then fight together for something or against someone. Karia

Hey Artemis...why pick the Heiffer Goddess name...do you really like her????? So with the Simi on this one...I would love to bbq her with some sauce and rid the world...do you think Nicky will make her nicer?

Skinwalker is about Jane (a skinwalker) and vampire killer for hire like her business card :Have stakes, will travel. She gets hired by the New Orleans vampires to hunt rogues. The master vampire of the city Leo is a manipulative son of a *** and turns crazy on occasion and tries to kill Jane a few times.
I like that the vampires have a problem with their sanity and the shapeshifting bit is not a straightforward process for Jane...and I like her dialogues with Beast.
Just a suggestion but I'm not good with words.
Hey, Valerie, I think you can fit Leo into this challenge. I used a secondary character from a Rogue Angel book because he definitely had a dangerous hero vibe and he had a flirtation going with Annja.

Thanks Danielle, did not think of that.

Wminbc, I think we all subconsciously steer our reading to our favorite genres, motifs, themes. I know I do!

After work and kids, it is comforting for something to be a bit reliable...a favorite author or genre that will give you just what you want...even better a re-read of a favorite book. Tony Robbins has a theory about people like that that they desire the comfort of the reliable to compensate for a life of uncertainty. That is true to some degree with me as experiments don't often go the way you expect and your left researching explanations to your findings...thus, reading and getting your HEA along with the bad guy in jail everytime is so comforting. Happy reading this weekend!

Here's another historical PNR series...

No problem! I've really enjoyed the series so far. I'm on book four.

Can I use a race car driver? Is that a sport? I was thinking of reading one of Erin McCarthy "Fast Track" books which are about race car drivers. I have never read her books before, would her Hero's be considered dangerous?
Absolutely, Bianca. Racers are considered sportsmen. They are 'dangerous' in the sense that they live on the edge. More of a wider definition is being used here on this group since there aren't too many real 'killer/hardcore' dangerous hero books.

For Tier III, they have to spend at least part of the book in the location. You can't use a book just because the hero is Russian and was born in Russia. But if it takes place in Moscow, even if for a part, you can use that book.
