I really liked The Hobbit. It was a fun adventure, although I got a bit tired reading some of the fights, they were a drag.

message 260: by Barbarac (new)

Barbarac (bcb72) I'm reading Loving Frank but I'm going slow because I know what's going to happen ahead, and I don't really know if I want to get there. And listening to The Great Leader on audiobook. It's started out pretty good. A lot of cussing but I don't mind.

message 261: by Taina (new)

Taina | 13 comments I'm reading NOT THAT KIND OF GIRL

message 262: by Sadie (new)

Sadie Forsythe I'm just starting Nette.

message 263: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Just about to finish up Monster Hunter International (MHI, #1) by Larry Correia . This is just a fun read. I'm lovin it!

message 264: by Sunny (new)

Sunny (travellingsunny) I've started A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy, #1) by Deborah Harkness which is rather interesting so far. I've only made it through four chapters, but I'm getting the impression that it's sort of an "epic" series.

I'm also reading Great Expectations. Sort of. I haven't picked it up since the end of Chapter 2. I'm having a tough time with it...

message 265: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle Is it that bad? Most other people are loving it from what I can see. :(

message 266: by Sunny (new)

Sunny (travellingsunny) I'm not sure I'd say it's "bad" --- I think the issue is that I'm culturally challenged. LOL! It's just a bit dated, so I'm having a tough time enjoying the humor. I think I just need to be in the mood for classics when I read them... But, that's why I pulled out A Discovery of Witches. I'll pick GA back up again soon, and I'd be willing to bet that once I give it half a chance, I'll be hooked. :)

Sadie Forsythe Sunny wrote: "I'm also reading Great Expectations. Sort of. I haven't picked it up since the end of Chapter 2. I'm having a tough time with it..."

I had a hard time with it too. I understand that it is a classic, and acknowledge that it tackles esoteric issues and was written by a literary giant of its time. I don't at all quibble with it being deserving of its status, but I didn't ENJOY it. Then some books I read because they should be read, not for fun. GE was one of those books for me.

I had a difficult time with

Great Expectations as well. Its the only Charles Dickens I have read because of that. I recognized the writing was good and clever, but there were so many times I just got bored and had to push myself through it. And there were other times I was a bit confused about what was going on.

Well said Sadie! I felt the same way.

message 270: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lauren0924) | 51 comments I'm currently reading The Greatest Knight by Elizabeth Chadwick. I'm actually re-reading it since I just bought the sequel, The Scarlet Lion. Great book!

message 271: by Maina (new)

Maina I just closed the cover of Catching Fire and am about to open the cover of Mockingjay. I've jumped on the bandwagon.

message 272: by David (new)

David (darev) Ever since reading RA Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy, I've been obssessed with elves. I'm currently reading Defenders of Ulthuan of the Warhammer Series. It's okay but nothing beats Forgotten Realms.

I read the Hunger Games not that long ago. It was good up until near the end. I just couldn't stand the whole Katniss/Peeta shipping. Not really enticed to read Catching Fire. The concept for this series was interesting, but it certianly hasn't converted me.

Nicely put, Sadie. You may have a point. I DO feel like it's a book I SHOULD read. :)

I read Hunger Games a few weeks ago to screen it for my 10 year old. I ended up enjoying it myself. Tell me, was Catching Fire as good as the first one? I'm a little hesitant to go through the trilogy full-on...

Some say yes others say no. I liked it as much if not more than the first same with the third but there were few new ideas introduced. More just further character development, new characters and new games.

message 277: by Sofia (new)

Sofia (fivesunflowers) | 26 comments Currently reading The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games, #1) by Suzanne Collins , The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey , and Wild From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed - almost finished with HG - all three very different, and all are keeping me interested :)

It's been a long time, but I have read the Dark Elf Trilogy too! Drizzt is awesome and I really wanted my own Guenhwyvar. :)

message 279: by Aiesha (new)

Aiesha (bigtexasaj) I am on the waiting list for a book in the library but got tired of waiting to start reading a new book so since I already had the first 2 books in the Harry Bosch series, I decided to start those. I figure I can go back & forth between books if I decide I don't want to read the Bosch books all in a row, although I was told I probably would want to! Hope they are as good as I keep hearing!!The Black Echo

message 280: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (morgan4574) I did a no-no, I read a last book first. Couldn't help it. I just finished Double Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. Should have known better. But I was on the list at my library for the others and just couldn't wait. It was great by the way. Now I will start from the beginning with Darkly Dreaming Dexter.

I love what I've seen of the show but I don't have Showtime anymore so I could never watch it regularly. I would love to read those boks though to know the story from start to current!! Keep us posted on them! I'm going to add those to my to-read lists! :)

I am STILL trying to see what the big deal is in it. Not sure I'll even read the other 2 books.

I don't really understand hype for any novel but I do enjoy a book based on what it is. I enjoy that kind of future sci-fi so I enjoyed The Hunger Games.

message 287: by The Pirate Ghost (new)

The Pirate Ghost (Formerly known as the Curmudgeon) (pirateghost) Finished Monster Hunter International (Great fun, good read) and started Deep Fathom by James Rollins.

message 288: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (lauren0924) | 51 comments Deep Fathom is a good book! I love James Rollins - his books are always fun and exciting

message 289: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (raggamuffin) | 19 comments I'm in the middle of Beatrice And Virgil, but I need to finish Yann Martel books before I can form a good opinion.

I also just finished
Assassin's Quest, so I'm looking for something lighter (literally and figuratively speaking) to start up in the Fantasy genre.
I'm leaning towards Fire

I love his books too. Deep Fathom is the last of the non-Sigma Force books that aren't YA (like Jake Ransom). If it's anywhere near as good as "Ice Hunt" then, I'll be pleased. Ice Hunt was great.

It's already started a little different than most of his other books. It's a good read so far.

message 291: by Nicolle (new)

Nicolle I agree that you have to be in the 'mood' to read certain types of books, especially the ones that take a bit more effort.

Nicolle Nicole wrote: "I am one of the few that didn't enjoy The Hunger Games series."

What didn't you like about it?

message 293: by Bec (new)

Bec | 14 comments The Hunger Games isn't something that I would normally pick up, but wanted to see what the hype was all about. So far it's ok, but the last book I don't think I am as keen as I was in the first 2 books.
It's a bit boring and dragging on I think.

Well, first of all I am not a Sci-fi or dystopian fiction fan. Secondly, I was a bit disturbed by the violence and gore. Thirdly, to me it was not enthralling. But no disrespect because I know I am in the minority.

message 295: by Will (last edited Apr 17, 2012 04:10PM) (new)

Will (_will) | 3 comments I loved The Hunger Games lol. Right now I am reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley for school and I have just started Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier .

message 296: by Melody (new)

Melody Polson (dancinhrblady) | 9 comments Just finished Drift by Rachel Maddow
Drift- Rachel Maddow's exploration of our love of war... or at least, our active pursuit of war footing within the last fifty years, as opposed to our stance prior to these last decades.

I'm currently re-reading Flag In Exile from David Weber
Flag in Exile (Honor Harrington, #5) by David Weber
- Honor Harrington series. I re-read most of my favorite series at least every other year... I just learned of David Weber in 2010, so... time to do it again.

I'm also listening to the audio version of Plan of Attack by Bob Woodward Plan of Attack, by Bob Woodard. I would prefer the hard copy for these books... and I do have one of the series, because of the names... I need to _see_ them to keep them strait in my head... just not this one.

Horrifying to read, on one hand... yet no surprises, yet.
I'm still thinking Iraq is the cause for at minimum war crimes trials... no disillusion on that count so far.

message 297: by Jenny (new)

Jenny Hilborne (jfhilborne) | 4 comments I just finished The Hunger Games and enjoyed it, although not enough to read the other 2 books. Currently reading In Cold Blood by Truman Capote. One chapter in and quite good so far.

message 298: by Jill (new)

Jill Swanson-Diaz (littlehyuts) I am currently about to finish "The Mosswoods".
It is a YA fantasy. I am really enjoying a fun easy read!

I hope to actually start reading Hunger Games.
I feel like I am one of the only people who haven't read it.
Haha. Even my grandma has read it!

Same with me Jenny! I read the first one and ended up liking it but not enough to read the other 2... at least right now. There are too many other books that I'm dying to read!
