I burned through those. They are oddly addicting. What do you think of the main character?

Melody Polson (dancinhrblady) | 9 comments I found it an interesting take on a young female heroine... She's strong-- central to the maintenance of her family.
Still has all the 'angst' and uncertainty of youth-- but that inner core keeps her capable of discernment. Pretty amazing.

message 554: by Liz (new)

Liz Hunt finished good omens - wow what a laugh that was
then read and finished the handmaids tale by margaret atwood - read for book club - very interesting but wouldnt read again
finally finished adventures of shrlock holmes for book club - very amusing

now tossing up between the red queen - philippa gregory, the ragged trouser philanthopists - robert tressell, perfume - patrick suskind

i cant decide which?

Thanks Stacey! Will read that asap. I am a fan of her work now. Indeed it's a charming story. I shed gallons of tears in this book. :)

@Liz,
Good Luck! I don't think I could easily decide between those three. They all sound good to me.

Katz Nancy from NJ (nancyk18) I finally finished The Road to Grace by Richard Paul Evans and thought it was an ok read. Not as good as the first three books in this series.

I think I'm giving up on The Next Always by Nora FRoberts. Have read 50 pages and I'm not that eager to read on. So I now get to choose two reads-one in book form and one for my I PAD. Fun ahead choosing what to read.

9 books at once...can't remember them all. I just read bits from them until I get into a flow and finish one. It's the fastest way I have of reading books quickly.

Yeah, Oskar is a really well-developed character, although the plot sometimes got a bit confusing- when he switched the narrator. Still, brilliantly written!

I just read the synopsis of Name of the Wind and, no, it doesn't sound like Daughter of Smoke & Bone is the same type of story - other than that they are both fantasy. But, uh, WOW, now I want to read your book too! LOL!

This was the the first YA to ever win the title of Best Book of the Year for me...it is just brilliant!

I also highly recommend her book of short stories called Lips Touch Three Times. Three short stories about first kisses!

R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 31 comments I am actually reading a slim volume of York Revision Notes on AS YOU LIKE IT ... as a teen in my household has an English exam in a few weeks. I've read the play but am enjoying the YNs as they do give a few insights. The sad thing is I will now have to discuss the thing in a meaningful way the said teen. Ach, middle class guilt and English exams! I do love Touchstone though, what a wag. Shakespear wld howl with laughter at the thought of all the tortured brows labouring over his throw away lines. I wonder if he played, 'William, A Country Fellow'. I reckon he must have done. I wonder what Shakespear wld make of the novel?

Alyne Winter | 20 comments I'm reading Pandora by Anne Rice. Just started. Enjoying it and it also provides history I need for a couple for my own projects.
I was reading Orphan's Tales: In the Night Garden by Cathrynne Valente. I like her writing but I keep picking this one up and the putting it down. It doesn't hold me, but I like having it. Its very long but so was Dr Strange and Mr Norrell and I couldn't put that down.

I would suggest reading the Pat and Angie series (you are currently reading the first one) in order since it makes a difference to the relatonship of these two people. And I would agree that Lehane is a good author for his genre except for This Given Day. A bit too long winded for me.

I am enjoying it actually! It was a group read from one of my mystery groups on here, so not exactly something I would probably choose on my own .. but it is definitely keeping my interest!
