Suzie (on the origin of my novel and the nature of its protagonist)
The Hunger - Vampire Music? (my obsession with a certain soundtrack)
Morningside (companion to a review of Ashley Madau's novel)
The Inevitability of Evil (a brief comment on Megan Cashman's recent blog post)

Rita (rccola1945hotmailcom) | 513 comments Francis, you can wright, anyway you want to. Isn't that that the way, it works? I don't believe you could efiend me. You have to wright, how you feel, about your story. Wrighting, doesn't come, from the mind, as much as, it does from the heart. Thats how I think it is, anyway.

message 11: by Francis (new)

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments I think that as long as writers treat their characters with respect, and don't use stereotypes for cheap humour or political commentary, then there should be no cause for offence.

Bisexuality is an interesting problem as a character trait because it has so often been associated with negative characteristics. I worry a little that by choosing to write bisexual characters who are in many ways morally ambiguous that I am, in effect, adding to this culture. Which is a shame, because I see bisexuality as a positive human trait.

message 12: by Rita (new)

Rita (rccola1945hotmailcom) | 513 comments Respect,is mandatory, in everything,we say & do.I don't think I know any, bisexuals, but gays. They are no different than us.They want, & desereve, the same things everyting, we take for granted. Nothing more or, less.I, can see your point though. It would have to be very delicate.

Rita (rccola1945hotmailcom) | 513 comments Fracis, believe it or not today I have had all 28 pages,of Midnight Sun, up & running.Yesterday, I got every other 1 or 2, in a sequense. I was so shocked, I had my son show me how to send each to his computer, so he can print them for me.I got this laptop, last Christmas, from both of my kids, & still, learning new things everyday. This draft of Stepheinie's, is so different. The way it is writen is like every page is a chapter, & I read, a few lines on each page, & it goes along the same lines, as the original, Twilight. I think she has just about finish this book. Hopefully, she will have it, edited & published. I really hope so. It's different from the 2 chps. on her own site. Strange. Oh, sense I have a laptop, I don't have a printer. Thats why I had to send each pg. to my son, because he has one.

Francis, those 28pg. won't let me copy them. They may not have been received on my son's computer. At least I still have the 28chp. of Midnight Sun.

Your list of 'top ten vampire novels' looks interesting. I've read several of them and pretty much agree with your assessment, others I haven't read but they look interesting.

You mentioned 'Carmilla'. I know you mentioned at one point that it was on your 'to read' list so I'm glad you got around to reading it. I have to agree that it's a 'classic' but I also have to admit it's not one of my favorites.

message 23: by Francis (new)

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments I'm ashamed to say I still haven't finished Carmilla and Dracula. I quite enjoy the writing of the latter, but Carmilla is a little slow. Both are very important works of nineteenth century literature, above and beyond the whole vampire thing.

I'm determined to finish them both in the near future, and then I think I'll finally get round to your book (I took advantage of your free day to get it also from Amazon) and James's Kiss.

I'm far from a young reader, Amy. I may be old,to some people, but don't say it to me, if you know whats good for you. Ha! Ha! I'm to little, to back that up. I have a new, beautifull, Great Grandaughter, born on, 12/26/12, but just went home, yesterday. Don't you live in the Dallas,Fort Worth, metro area? I was born in Dallas, & we moved to Midland, in 1976. My husband wanted out of there & come out hear, beacause our famalies lived out here.

The VPD, novals, are nothing, like the TV, program. To be honest, L J Smith, took the charactures, so far away, from earth, that they were hard to follow. That, may be the reason, they let her go, & now, they have a, goast writer. I did like, all the books, but the new writer, is much more down to earth. So far, there, are, 18 books, & I read, all but, the newest one. I have it, just, reading, Sookie Stackhouse, now. Well, not now, my eyes, played out on me, so have to take a break, for a while. I've, always, had, major problems with my eyes, & they wont, except, the strenth they need to get them back, to 20/20, vision.

Oh, I am, It just happenes when I read to much. I can still see to drive, & read, just don't want to push it. They, have been bad, sinse I was a little girl. I never learned how to read well, so had a reading teacher. She was the one that noticed it, so had them checked, & got glasses. When much older, I tried cotacts, & hated them, so still, wearing glasses. I feel naked, without them now. I'm going to read, read, a book, for my, my son, Vince, so I know, what he is going through, with an illness, he caused, himself. He will get over it, though. I'm a little long winded, now, so have a good day.

Rita (rccola1945hotmailcom) | 513 comments To the Author, of, "Live Dead", the book, you wrote, is nothing, but a, gay porn book, &, not the kind of vampirs, I care to read about!!! Vampire/human, love stories, does, NOT MEAN,PORN, thank you, very much. I'm sure, there are people, that like it, just not me. Good luck with your book.

message 45: by Francis (new)

Francis Franklin (francisjamesfranklin) | 544 comments A lot of paranormal romance these days is classified as erotic romance and very sexually explicit. I don't mind when the writing is sexually explicit, but when it starts to feel like the vampiric elements of the story are just a pretext for endless and entirely pointless sex... it gets boring.

People have complained about my book Suzie and the Monsters: A Fairytale of Blood, Sex and Inhumanity:

The sex was pretty steamy in places, but like working in a candy store, after awhile of a diet of just this it loses it's appeal. The story starts out good but I soon found myself getting bore reading the same thing over and over.

I don't really understand this, but books are very subjective.

message 46: by Rita (new)

Rita (rccola1945hotmailcom) | 513 comments I know they are, but, Live undead, was to point, of being, really gross. I don't mind, sex, in a book, or movie, but, not what I was reading. I'm, far from being a, prude, but not, gross. I know that, love & sex, make the world go around. I'm, old, but not, that old. HA! HA!

My name's Tima and I'm the author of a new soon-to-be-released vampire book, Bloodgifted. Since I received a publishing contract, I had to remove the three teaser chapters of my book from this site. Pity, but it would breach my contract. When the book comes out, you can read the whole thing!
