Still, her father's final, dire warning about a terrible family curse haunts her days and her dreams.
was it a teen book? this is a far stretch, but there is that whole "angus, thongs and full frontal snogging" series. Angus is her cat. she is a pretty sarcastic character.....thought id suggest it.

One of the "Boy" books by Meg Cabot had a character who drew a comic strip about a cat. I think it was "Every Boy's Got One" but I'm not sure. Could that be it?

Shirley Damsgaard has a chick lit series with a librarian and her cat, named Abbie and Ophelia (I forget which was which). The one I read had a cat on the cover.

?Except for the few hours a week she roams the hospital corridors with her therapy cat, Titi, Mckenna Wright, a high-powered attorney, lives and breathes work, and consequently she has high blood pressure and sleepless nights. Mckenna is preparing the defense of a young country-western singer who is charged with selling cocaine when she comes across some damning evidence. She is debating with herself about how to use this information when she apparently suffers a stroke while driving and plunges off a cliff. When she wakes in the hospital, she has lost her memory, her house, and her job. And her cat now talks to her. With the help of her friends, Titi, and Tom Markham, a lawyer in the prosecutor's office, Mckenna slowly builds a new life as she regains her memory. And the more she remembers, the less certain she is about whether she wants her old life back. Everyone will enjoy this highly entertaining tale, but fans of Carmichael's Piggy stories will especially delight in Titi and her pithy cat wisdom.

The main character was the sarcastic usually doesn't get the guy type who lusted after someone she worked with if I remember right. Yes, she had a cat who figured in as a strong character.
Funny book, an entertaining read I'd like to revisit.
Any help appreciated, thanks!
