Too old to write?

I just turned 55 and started a novel in 2000, and worked on it periodically until 2002, before stopping it due to heavy workload and other factors.

Would a publisher consider a novel by someone my age if I decide to finish it? I have no publisher contacts, but have been a professional writer my entire work career.

Mike, can you post your question in the writing process thread? I want to make sure James sees it, and as such, I think it would be better in that thread.
