Photojim wrote: "That's going to be a tough choice with such a short list."Hey...you guys, are too quick for me.
Hrmmm... I'll say I'm going to try. As for first takes, here they are:The Heartbreaker by Carly Phillips - read it before and liked it. Might read it again as it was several hundred books ago. I like contemporary romance and this seems to be the best choice for these.
Captive Bride by Johanna Lindsey - I've only ever read one of Ms. Lindsy's books (A Pirate's Love) and was traumatized by the event. Perhaps I'll give Ms. Lindsey another chance and see if she can write something else besides a rapist as a hero or a simpering worthless heroine.
Now You Die by Roxanne St. Clair - Unfamiliar author and unfamiliar book.
Vampires Are Forever by Lynsay Sands - PNR/UF is ok for a change, but I'm feeling a bit of vampire burnout. Never read anything that I can think of by Sands.
Conquering Kate by Marly Chance - Total unknown to me. Don't even know the genre.
Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris - a great series and this is the book that started it. But I'm not likely to re-read the series.
Believe by Victoria Alexander - I don't generally do historical romance and the cover is total crap. Maybe if I was trapped somewhere for a day and this book happened to be sitting nearby I might read it or at least find out more about it.
Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh - I've yet to read anything by the author (other than one or two short stories in an anthology) but keep hearing that I should. however, I won't be starting with book #8.
August Heat by Lora Leigh - I like erotica and I don't mind menage stories. But I'm not a Lora Leigh fan. I don't generally like her writing style. And what's with the giant green cock on the front cover?
It's Now or Never by Wendy Davy - like the title but I know nothing about this.
I Am the Messenger by markus Zusak - I know nothing about this. Is that the Newberry Medal on the front cover? Is this a YA book? Well so much for my search for better written erotica.
Succubus Dreams by Richelle Mead- I read the first and really liked it. But I haven't found the second anywhere for a price I was willing to pay. $15 for a paperback that I'm going to read in an afternoon? I'll keep waiting until I find two before I'll read three.
So who knows? Maybe I'll find one of these and read it in the next three weeks.
I'm going for Singh's Bonds of Justice. If I have the time, I going to check out Davy's It's Now or Never, since its a free download on her website.
I've read Zusak's I Am the Messenger. Not in the same caliber as The Book Thief, but still a great YA book. I recommend it.
I will read It's Now or Never (thanks for the head's up Yz- picked up the free download) and if I get a chance, I will re-read August Heat (I really liked the series)
Its Now or Never is only like 8 pages...just so people know...I downloaded the pdf and converted it to my kindle - its 100 locations
I didn't know it was freebie before my little 'random' process chose it. Just in case, you guys, are wondering. : )
I'm in :)Vampires Are Forever by Lynsay Sands
I have read some of her other stuff and it was wonderful. :)
I'm in and reading I Am the Messenger unless I can find a copy of Marly's Choice that I won't have to pay an arm and a leg for. I hate starting at the end of a series!
I'm in and have Bonds of Justice as the next book on my monthly challenge to finish. It couldn't be better! And I'm with Jim, what's "up" with that giant green cock on the cover?
I love these Random Lists !!! :)I put a lot of the books on my TR lists.
For # 3 I will be re-reading Dead Until Dark
I read It's Now or Never - but since it literally took me like 5 minutes, it doesn't seem right counting it, but i don't know which one i'm going to readRe: It's Now or Never - it liked it, but obviously wayy to short, it was literally a scene that could have fallen at the beginning of a book (not sure if its linked to anything else she wrote)...but I liked the writing style and will likely check her out in the future
Hi everyone!!It's been a long time since I've participated in any of the challenges in this group. But I like this one!
I'll try to read Bonds of Justice. I bought it here from the goodreads book swap, so it's just right there waiting for me on my bookshelf.

Can't count it, Dee. The challenge doesn't start until tomorrow. : )
I'm going to re-read Dead Until Dark
. I've been wanting to re-read this for a long time just to see how different it is from the show.
Delicious Dee Challenge Addict wrote: "ohh boo...oh well...my bad"Or, you can always reread the 8 pages tomorrow. : )
I think I have to pass on this one, all the books I've either read, or I'm not that far in the series yet. Bummer!
I'm in. I'll at least read the freebie 8 pages ;)I might read Succubus Dreams as well. I have book #2 on one of my challenges for this month and expect to get to it over T-giving.
I'm in. I'll read
by Marly Chance.I bought this ebook about a month ago and haven't yet tucked into it yet. Most opportune. I think I'm due for some light erotic/sci-fi romance...
I read It's Now or Never - it was sweet but way too short. I like the nanny/caregiver and boss fall in love theme and wish this one had been longer.I will also re-read August Heat- along with that large green penis on the cover is a wrapped present, so I fit it into the Let's Celebrate! challenge. Will read it after Dec. 1.
I read It's Now or Never also - and found that as a short story it could easily be made into a much better, much longer story. I like short stories when it gives a brief view of the writer and their style. This one did and was worth it. I would be very interested in reading other books by this author. Thanks for bringing this one to my attention.
I'm in - I think I'll go with Believe - it's about the only one I can get in time, that I haven't already read, or is #umpteen in a series...I love I Am the Messenger.
I read It's Now or Never. I feel like I cheated though, might have to read something else, but at least put me down for that. I'll give it 3 stars.
I'll read
. That book is taunting me and I'm finally giving in! It'll help me complete several challenges for 2010, so guess I'll jump ahead (in the series) and give it a go. :)
I've finished Bonds of Justice. I really procrastinated reading because I just wasn't excited about reading this book. I was wrong. I should have started sooner. It was great. I felt like the over-all storyline was really moved along by this book. In fact, it could have easily lost the developing relationship between Max and Sophia. One of the things the author did was add short notes at the beginning of each chapter. I felt they added to your understanding of the characters and their relationship. The ending felt really rushed and so I'm only going to give it 4+ stars instead of 5.
I've finished Dead Until Dark
. Finished 11/24/10. I forgot some of what had happened in the first book since it was so long since I read it. It was a great refresher. I am not a re-reader normally but it now some of the other stuff makes sense in the other books. Plus now I can picture Eric very clearly. LOL
i'm going to read Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh it has been in my to read list for a while so two birds with one challenge!!
I just finished August Heat and unfortunately the only part I really enjoyed about book was when Photojim pointed out the gigantic green penis on the cover (it's on my computer, so I never paid any attention to it before). That is the most fantastic cover ever! Thankfully it's short (the story, not the penis) so it was a quick read! :)
I've decided on
cause it'll fill in some holes in other challenges as well. Gotta be practical at this time of year. LOL.
I've just finished Captive Bride, a re-read for me, gave it 3 stars. Here is my review:
I've read this book a few years back and really liked it but funnily enough I forgot that I've read it before and read it again for this challenge. 50 pages into it I realised my mistake. I have to say that upon second read it doesn't hold the same charm as it did before, the writing style seemed very amateurish and the characters were all cartoon-like, their lines feeling pretentious or stilted at times. The damsel in distress and the forceful hero storyline has been done better in other books and I simply could not get into the story as I had done before. It was just an O.K. read for me, but I upped the rating to three stars for "old" times' sake, since I really enjoyed it then.
I read Succubus Blues which is the first in the Georgina Kincaide series (vice Succubus Dreams) - I have def. found a new series to read...already grabbed book 2 and looking forward to more
I finished
Vampires Are Forever
. I jumped ahead from #1 to #8 due to some challenge requirements. I enjoyed this book more than #1, maybe due to the fact that I read it vs. listened to the audiobook. I didn't like the narrator for book #1. While this series is not my favorite PNR, I do find her writing to be light and funny. They have been quick reads and offer something different (Vamp/Immortals who are Atlantians), so I'm sure I'll continue to read on in the series. Read 12/2/10 (3.5★) My GR Review
completed
I read Bonds of Justice on 11/28. 4 Stars. I didn't like it as much as the stories that feature DarkRiver or SnowDancer pack members as the heroes or heroines. I also read Play of Passion and can't wait to read Hawke's story, Kiss of Snow.
I read I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak . 12/4/10When I saw the list for this challenge it was a slam dunk for me. Of all the books that I read in 2010 (and there have been 100s) Zusak's The Book Thief was by far my favorite. I wouldn't give Messnger 5 stars but I did like it.

I agree with you Sheila. I am the Messenger is good, but The Book Thief is a class of its own.
