Mairead | 65 comments I love this series. It's brilliant. The second is my favourite, and I can't wait for the spin off.

I thought that we did too. This is my least favorite Armstrong series. It's enjoyable, but I didn't fall in love with it or the characters. Most people managed to, so I'm not the norm.
After the Kelley Armstrong Q&A yesterday... She says she's contracted for 9 YA books right now.

Tya | 846 comments This was my first Kelley Armstrong series. I loved it!Everything about it. I'm about to start another of her series...Bitten I think it's called? But, really, I'm in love with Derek. That is all.

Likewise!

I love this series! I like the 'running around' aspect of it and I think the character development is good. Hated the extremely open ending though and after a while it seems like they just ran around in circles (like how many times did they have to go to the institute?) and the same thing happened over and over again.

Some sidenote though: it's super similar to this series of L.J Smith called Dark Visions trilogy. Like, eyebrow-raising similar. Both star a girl with supernatural powers who goes to live at an institute with other supernatural kids and then the scientist people ofcourse turn out to be the baddies. Also there is a love triangle between a 'light' happy guy and a 'dark' broody one.

Yay!
Love Derek. There's something about Simon that grates on my nerves, but I just can't put my finger on it!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments But...but...I love the way that Simon leans in and intimately whispers to Chloe when he's trying to comfort or assure her. Something about that is so cute to me.

Maybe that will change in book 3 though for me. I do like Derek better though.

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments I keep waiting for the 2 series to cross over. Like the kids run into the characters of her other series. I think that would be fun!

She said the adults probably wouldn't come in because they would come in and solve everything for the kids and the story has to be about the kids. But, she said that these kids will meet her new kids in this next series.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Personally I really like Simon, his sweet and nice demeanor are such a nice thing.

Of course, I"m totally on team Derek
!

message 13: by Mairead (new)

Mairead | 65 comments Simon is nice...
I just couldn't shake the feeling that he would turn out to be not so nice. I was wrong, but I still feel like I don't like him.
Derek I love though.

message 14: by Angela (new)

Angela B See I was team Simon even though I think you are suppose to be team Derek. I like Derek ok but I just like Simon more!

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 827 comments Simon is the Asian looking kid with blonde hair who is sensitive and caring, and according to the books is outgoing (but not really loud or brash) and must be attractive because the ladies seem to like him. He likes to draw comic/anime type pictures.

Derek is the very intelligent and huge werewolf kid that smells and has acne. He also has brutal strength with a gruff nature to match, but you can't help liking him because none of it is really his fault, and he's so protective of Chloe, to the point of pushing her away. According to the books he's well muscled and has a nice face and dark hair.

I'm guessing Derek breaks out and isn't as disgusting looking/smelling in book 3 though.

So far I'm liking different things about both of them. Much like Will & Jem in CA, and Dimitri & Adrian in VA. Different characteristics make each of them appealing for completely different reasons.

LOL. Is it weird that I don't remember him changing all that much, but I still love him? I think you just start to look past that stuff. I think some of it was clearing up though. I don't know, lol.

Jasmine (jadorejas94) | 950 comments I've loved Derek since the first book. :) For some reason I can't imagine guys in books ugly. . .Derek has always been good looking in my mind. :X

I liked Derek. I was so tired of the girl always picking the hot guy or the author always having 2 hot guys want 1 girl. To finally see someone average (*ish seeing how he's a were) even have a chance was nice for me.

Same.
I love Derek for his personality, and his loyalty...plus, he can just be so funny.
But still, to me he's a class a hottie.

message 22: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne I just finished the 1st book and haven't formed an opinion on the Derek/Simon thing but I am enjoying the series.

Salena Chavez (schavez7728) The best series ever!!

message 24: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 35 comments I really enjoyed this series. I like the way it ended. I do hope these characters make at least an appearance in her new YA series coming out early next year.

Me too! I hope Kat from her short stories 'Kat' and 'Hunting Kat' makes an appearance as well

message 26: by Jessica B (new)

Jessica B | 292 comments I loved this trilogy! Derek was amazing... I am proud to say I fell deeply for a sixteen year old boy! This series was one of the few that kept me from my bed! Pulled an all nighter so I could get through the Reckoning. I'm really looking forward to her next book The Gathering.

message 27: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I have a terrible feeling that I'm not going to like The Gathering as much. I'm trying to stop myself, because I know its a spin off and that these characters (Derek, Chloe, Simon, Tori) won't be in it at all or at least not the focus, but I know that I'm going to go in looking for my Chlerek and deciding that I hate *everyone* who's not them and ultimately resent reading about these new characters. I honestly feel like that is whats going to happen and its going to ruin the series for me.

Didn't Kelley Armstrong say that this spin off series was going to be a trilogy and then the Dark Rising characters and the Darkest Powers characters were going to meet up for a final book or trilogy?

message 28: by Darcy (new)

Darcy (sunnytat462) | 2770 comments Tya, trying going into reading the book with low expectations, this way if it isn't as good you won't be disappointed.

That is what I am going to do, as I was so so on the first 3.

message 29: by Heather (new)

Heather T (horrorvacui000) | 5931 comments Mod
Ya, she said they'd meet toward the end. I like her adult books better than her YA so I'll get to this one, but I won't jump up and down once it's in my hands like some of you will.

message 30: by Angela (new)

Angela B I will read The Gathering (I guess I should check and get an idea of when it comes out) but I'm not dying for it.

message 31: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I have tried to read Bitten, I think it was by her and I absolutely didn't like it but there was something about this particular series that just grabbed me...Looking back at it I don't think that there was anything super special about it. It was more one of those, right time, right place things. I read this series and absolutely fell in love with every aspect of it. Looking back, even knowing that there was nothing particular jaw droppingly fabo about it, its still up there with my favorite series...I just don't know why.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

lol my mom is hooked on the adult series women of th underworld for some reason. shes always going ''What's that authors name again?' (I say ''Kelley Armstorng and she says)''Oh yeah...''

message 33: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (mariexd) I love all Kelley Armstrong's other books and I did enjoy this one but by the end I felt like not much had happened and it wasn't that interesting. Though I am planning to read The Gathering and possibly re-read these books.

message 34: by Brianna (new)

Brianna (briannask) | 35 comments I recently finished this trilogy (after reading all of the current Women of the Otherworld books) and I really enjoyed it! I really liked how some of the same things tied in with the Women of the Otherworld (like mentioning the major Cabals, the Nast family and Cortez family) and I also noticed a mention of Savannah (a witch and sorcerer having a child together was a "dangerous" thing). Like Darcy, I kept waiting for some mention of Elaina from the pack. But it makes sense that she didn't want the adults to solve everything. I'm looking forward to picking up The Gathering and finding out how the characters meet each other.

message 35: by Carina (new)

Carina I read the 1st book back in december last year. And it was good, but it didnt leave me wanting badly to keep up with the series, so I put it off. Last month I tried picking up the @nd book and couldnt make it, last week I tried again but again I put it away(this time it had nothing to do with the book, I was in a serious reading funk and couldnt read anything). I gave it one last try this weekend and finished it. It was MUCH better than book 1.

I've been rooting for Derek from the first time I meet him. (Yes acne and temper and all) Simon is nice but I like Derek alot more. Today I picked up the last book in the trilogy and Im planning to start it as soon as I finish reading Anna and the French Kiss.

Ya, I didn't want to continue after book 1, but it did get a bit better.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Yeah, another Derek fan!!!

message 38: by Carina (new)

Carina Derek is such a cool nerd, I totally love him! =)

message 39: by Carina (new)

Carina What did you guys think about book 3? I might be starting it tomorrow, and I've heard some not so good things...

message 40: by Ceci (new)

Ceci (halfgoddess) | 1 comments The ending was a let down of book three. I was happy, puzzled because of the loose ends, and frustrated at the ending. Once you read it you'll understand. BTW LOVE Derek. Le sigh...

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments they obviously get together. That was the end, she's moved onto the next series, where we will get a little glimpse that these characters.

message 42: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I thought that Kelley said that she was doing a trilogy of with the new people, The Gathering and then for a final book (another trilogy?) she was bringing both series together? I need more Chlerek. I just do. I loved the flirty stuff in book 3. :)

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments Hmmm . . . it could be. It's been a while since I checked Kelley's page and seen what the game plan was.

message 44: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I was thinking about this today and I think that Darkest Powers should be made into a tv show (possibly to go on the CWs line up with the rest of the pretty pretty people. And Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries and The Carrie Diaries are all YA series, so it would be totes at home there.) But, it has fantasy thats so in right now, werewolves and witches and a necromancer and there's a love triangle Chloe-Derek-Simon and it would be exciting with them trying to escape from villains and learning to control their out of control powers and Chloe and Derek falling for each other....Maybe I just really miss these characters :(

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments It would be a good add for CW.

message 46: by Tya (new)

Tya | 846 comments I was having myself a super crummy day on Saturday and wanted to read a surefire super sweet romance-y kind of thing. I kept reaching for Pride and Prejudice or one of its variations but---as much as I love me some P & P it takes SO DANG LONG to get to the point! And you can't just skip ahead to all of the swoony moments like you can in other series, so I re-read all of the swoony moments in bk 3. I loved all of the near kisses and when she sits on his lap. It did my poor heart good.

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments I love the slow build up in this series to the romance. It's nice to have a realistic love story in a YA. (The irony that it's fantasy. ^_-)

message 48: by CassieCruel (new)

CassieCruel (faith_isola) | 80 comments Was really surprised by this series, but feel it ended with loose ends

Shera (Book Whispers) (sherabookwhispers) | 2445 comments It's one of my favorite paranormal YA series! And when it ended I was heart broken. It did wrap up, but there was so much more to explore. I keep hoping she'll revive it again!

message 50: by CassieCruel (new)

CassieCruel (faith_isola) | 80 comments I hope she'll expand, though did hear it crossed over with her other YA series?
